very good cd a must have if you like the rock from the late 80's ...very guitar based and a few ballads good overall cd not just 1 or 2 good ones

From: T-BONE Date: August 11, 2001 at 17:08
Kick ass cd. The best of the 3

From: 3rd_rail@37.com Date: October 11, 2001 at 9:17
i like this one it's by far there best good hooks and chorus good song arrangments to bad there not on top of there game i give it a 9

From: koogles Date: January 2, 2002 at 7:06
Habit-forming hair metal seemed pretty average back in the day, but kicks a lot more ass than the Puddle of Stereomudvayne stuff of the now. Going back, I found a lot I had missed out on: "Bang Go the Bells" and "Hammer Swings Down" are high octane rockers that go for the jugular. Like XYZ, Heaven's Edge and other second string players, they're good... but lacked that special something to push them into the big leagues.

From: Chris C. Date: January 22, 2002 at 12:27
Hard edge guitar rock. If you like XYZ or Cry Wolf you might like these guys. Good stuff through and through. I agree that it's the best of the three.

From: cquicmoi Date: February 3, 2002 at 10:11
What a band. Their first album was absolutely full of energy, great songs and riffs that could blow you away. They never ghad the recognition they deserved. The singer has one of the best voice in Rock n Roll in terms of range. Kid Goes Wild even features the late Sam Kinison. From beginning to end the album rocks. If you want somthing to sink you teeth into...B.A.D's first album is what you need. Too bad they never made it to the big leagues. Very recommanded.

From: Chief7 Date: May 11, 2002 at 21:13
bang goes the bell, when the hammer swings down, desperate rocks, rocks, rocks.

From: Desslar Date: May 13, 2002 at 2:21
Good but rather generic. Hammer and Desperate are great tunes. Kid Goes Wild is featured in Robocop 2.

From: Sarracenia Date: May 19, 2002 at 6:44
I really loved this band when they first came out, but this album just did not stand the test of time for me. I think it's because it just sounds too generic. The songs are very simple and indistinct. Still, it was a solid effort, and back in '89, it was cranked often.

From: Reno Date: May 31, 2002 at 18:43
Sarracenia is right about the genaric sound on this cd. Ponti put this band together to play his music. He also produced Baton Rouge who also did the song Desperate around the same time. This band had alot of potential, but were held back with a very short leash. This was the best cd of the 3 they have done.

From: TIM Date: May 31, 2002 at 22:11
Sorry koogles, I don't agree that XYZ was 2nd string. I think their main problem was Enigma. I think a better label could have helped alot. Not many on that label made it. Enigma might trace back to some of the big guys, but on their own they weren't great.

From: Baris Date: September 8, 2002 at 11:24
A relatively good starting album. Firstly OK, although the sound and tune was very strong, most of the songs were somewhat indistinctive. But the album included quite good ones such as "Bang Go The Bells". Also when listened today "Desperate" has nothing less than a quality ballad. The bad luck of the band may be that they appeared at the height of melodic rock. So they were ignored while there was Guns'n Roses or Motley Crue around. In fact they were a powerful candidate for the coming years

From: Richard H Date: September 27, 2002 at 12:22
Overall....a very well put together c.d. Tracks such as "Bang Go The Bells" and " Caught In The Crossfire" really get things rolling on this one.The ballad "Deperate" just adds that extra bit of class to make this a worthy release.Check out Baton Rouge's version of "Desperate" it's equally as good.

From: M. Allen Date: December 22, 2002 at 20:27
Anyone who loves big, loud, over-the-top late 80s melodic hard rock should consider it a sin not to own this fantastic debut. Some call this band second-rate, but that is not an opinion I subscribe to; in fact, I consider this one of the finest releases of the hair-metal era. What's not to like? Loud guitars, massive hooks, in-your-face choruses, monster backing vocals, a cool lead vocalist, top-notch production...just an all around superb album. Go back and give it another listen...

From: byrdman Date: December 25, 2002 at 16:56
this rocks......nuff said

A good cd and very good live unlike most new bands....

From: love metal Date: December 16, 2003 at 20:17
forgot i had this tape. had a great time listening to it in my teens and i still love it.

From: MJ Date: December 16, 2003 at 20:28
This is another one of my favorite CDs. From the first time I heard "Desperate", I was hooked! Had to have EVERYTHING they ever did from that point on!! And wasn't disappointed!! Desperate being the favorite cut, then "Caught Up In The Crossfire" and then "Maryanne"......just love the "you biiiiiiiitch" at the beginning!!! Derek Davis' voice is pure magic to my ears!!!

From: Christine Date: December 17, 2003 at 21:38
"Bang Go the Bells" sounds soooo good cranked up beyond 11... you know, to the "piss of the neighbors or the car next to you" level! Still one of my all-time faves. Had this been released in '87 these guys would have been huge.

From: AOR freaky Date: December 18, 2003 at 5:05
This is a very good sounding heavy rock record, but Koogles has it right ! There's something missing to make this special ! The first two songs are really great, the rest is more average. Anyway, not a bad record at all !

A great, under-rated band that should've gone farther in the music biz. Having a label that didn't do much business in rock (Arista) probably didn't help much. I saw these guys twice at L'amour in Brooklyn, NY back in the day and they were even better live than on record!

From: Date: April 12, 2004 at 21:54
Desparate, The Kid Goes Wild, Shot O' Love, Back in Babylon, Sally Danced are the killer tracks here, but in all a great album. Well produced and full of hair band hooks

From: John Date: April 15, 2004 at 3:37
I had this on cassette back in 1990, lost it a few years later, and didn't "rediscover" them until I found a copy on CD on ebay a couple of years ago. It gets its share of spins in the CD player. There are some real kicking songs on there, but the follow-up sucks bad.

From: charvel man Date: May 11, 2004 at 17:26
This is a good record. I think the best songs are desperate, kid goes wild. Shot o love is an incredible song, and I like maryanne as well. Even through I own this and will never get rid of it, If you are really picky I would not pick it up, there are some average songs here.

From: BleedMetal Date: May 17, 2004 at 11:52
I just re-listened to this again after not listening for a few years. This is a classic album with great music and unfortunately it was overshadowed by releases from groups like Motley Crue back in the day. Derek Davis has a fantastic smokey raspy voice that goes well with ALL the songs. If you can find this CD...GET IT!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 12, 2004 at 23:05
Pretty good album by one of the more generic end of the line hair bands. No album with a guest vocal done by Sam Kinison can be bad. Bang Go The Bells and Hammer Swings Down are the two best songs, but a very enjoyable release overall. 7/10

From: Rycheage Date: July 5, 2004 at 20:57
Very good hair metal release. "Bang Go The Bells" and "Hammer Swings Down" are the better tracks but "Desperate", "The Kid Goes Wild" and "Caught In The Crossfire" are enjoyable, too. This will not explore new territory, but is good nonetheless.

From: Kip Date: August 31, 2004 at 1:44
Ditto what Rycheage said and I will add Shot O Love is a killer tune. It's one of those albums where the highs are high but the lows are low. Uneven and inconsistant but it contains some classic tunes. Worth whatever cheap price you will pay. 6.5/10

From: Geoff Date: August 31, 2004 at 10:03
I really like this band, and really like this CD. 'Bang goes the bells' is sensational, and the next two are great hard rockers too. 'Desperate' is a great ballad and 'Shot o'love' is good too. A few fillers, but good solid hard rock and very well played - awesome sound!

From: Dreamaholic Date: October 27, 2004 at 5:41
Bought this CD when Hammer Swings Down debutted on Headbanger's Ball in '89. I sold it soon after (along with most of my collection) because I needed the money. Fortunately picked it up again for $2 last year. I really like Bang Go the Bells, Hammer Swings Down, Caught in the Crossfire and Shot O' Love. I mostly skip over the rest but the ones I do like are just awesome.

From: z4roxx Date: January 21, 2005 at 17:05
Fantastic debut cd for Babylon A.D.,great melodick hard rock.If you like bands such as Baton Rouge or China Rain you'll love this one, too.Maybe little more glammy as the bands below but the style is the same...

From: gener8tr Date: February 3, 2005 at 16:18
For God's sake go out and get this CD today. If you need to borrow 30 bucks to buy it give me a call, I'll give it to you!

From: Christine Date: February 4, 2005 at 0:29
Good lord, why is this disc going for so much lately??? Not like there's a real shortage of them...

From: onemorecast Date: February 19, 2005 at 0:39
I still love this cd. It was one of the best debuts of anybody. Too bad they could never follow it up. Bang go the bells was a great tune. If you were a fan of 80's metal, this is what it was supposed to sound like.

From: lennie Date: March 1, 2005 at 7:53
Without a doubt this was a good release in it's time! The rocking songs are fab but the ballads are great too - check out 'desperate' and also 'Sally Danced' - one of the best tracks on the album!

From: Melodiker Date: March 21, 2005 at 7:38
Really a good one ! Track 4 is my fave !!! 8\10

From: star Date: August 4, 2005 at 14:44
este es un excelente disco, en algunos momento es parecido a Motley en su buena epoca, pero tiene algo que lo escuchas y te sigue gustando, de verdad si tienen oportunidad comprenlo.... buen disco

From: Sex Driver Date: August 8, 2005 at 11:10
Great great great great band,B.A.D is my favorite and of that cd especially Caught In The Crossfire!!!!!1 YEEEEAAHHHH..10/10

From: Metal T Date: July 23, 2006 at 19:52
D*mn good album ! The fact that its never been reissued or remastered etc... just boggles the f**king mind. All one needs to do is to take a look at some of the flat-out sh*t that has been rereleased by some of the other bands in the genre.......(Metal T scratches his head and says -What the f##k ????

From: Lovedrive Date: July 31, 2006 at 15:26
Me recuerdan a Poison, por la voz, pero con coros mas a lo Def leppard. Regular, hecho de menos algun temazo...

From: Rob Date: August 19, 2006 at 17:59
One of the best hard rock releases in the genre. Their follow-up was nowhere near as good.

From: headbanger4life Date: September 8, 2006 at 6:34
I started out with Nothing Sacred and then picked this one up. Maybe that's why I prefer second album a little better. This is an awesome release though with tracks like Bang go the Bells, The Kid Goes Wild and the wonderful ballad Desparate. Essential for any 80's hard rock fan.

From: juan carlos Date: October 15, 2006 at 0:17

From: BIG-TIME Date: November 26, 2006 at 21:26
Good CD Me like's it, Great starter the rest of thier album's not so hot...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: December 22, 2006 at 19:52
Good album as usually debut ones have to be!!!.Good songs with attitude. However after their second album they failed to recognition even though they recorded like 3 or 4 more albums but never scored big hits.Anyway if you can get it you won't be dissapointed at all.

From: Metalmusicman Date: December 31, 2006 at 17:04
Great way to throw their hat into the 80's hair metal scene. Too bad it hit when the scene was about to be killed by that F*ucker Kurt Cobain. Anyway, excellent debut, with some real stand out tracks. "Bang Goes The Bell", "Hammer Swings Down", "Kid Goes Wild", and "Shot Of Love" come to mind, just to name a few, but between the gems are solid rock tracks as well, so the whole album plays well. No filler here. Very good stuff and recomended!

From: rockhardrock Date: March 23, 2007 at 17:41
Very good album.great production. My personal fav."the kid goes wild"-superb song,i think there is Sam Kinison (who is talkin about sth.) in the middle of that song."bang goes the bell","back in babylon" and "hammer swings down"kicks ass. There is also great ballad "desperate"(is this their song originally or is baton rouge?).The follow up was great too.

From: Steelheart Date: April 5, 2007 at 4:55
Not an instant first choice as a great rock album, but it does grow on you. Although this album is really good, it's clear to see why Babylon A.D. never made it into the big leagues, but check it out.

From: bozoglam Date: July 30, 2007 at 16:00
By far one of the best releases of all times in my opinion!A few years i broke one tooth and in front of the doctor's office i bought this one in a used cd store. I never complained of for having broken this tooth!!

Excellent hair metal not a million miles way from the SKID ROW debut, with the first half of this being as essential as can possibly be before fading slightly in the final stretch. Highlights have to be the opening two salvo`s and the beautiful ballad `desperate`(quite possibly my fave ballad of all time) Without doubt an essential purchase and BABYLON AD`s finest moment.90/100

From: Rambo Rockerman Date: January 20, 2008 at 13:04
This is a must have if you love melodic hard rock.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: February 11, 2011 at 21:24
Ok being more specific about this album (i wrote some little comment back in 2006)...well,yes,very good debut by Babylon A.D. ...maybe it could have been edgier but still rocks good..."Bang On The Bells","Hammer Swings Down"(catchy),"Desperate"(killer ballad and far my fave track of the band),"Shot O' Love","Maryanne"(rocks)& "Sweet Temptation"(catchy too)are the ones that caught my attention...87/100

From: the rocker Date: December 13, 2011 at 21:50
I bought a lot of TAPES blind back in the day,and being at a 90-95% rating on them being good picks. This was one of them. 10 songs, I like more than half, to me that is pretty good. Bang go the bells, Hammer swings down, Caught up in the crossfire, Kid goes wild, Maryanne & the ballad Desperate. Same song writers and producer as Baton Rouge, I like Baton Rouge a little more than Babylon A.D.

From: 123charpenay Date: June 16, 2013 at 8:42
super class hard u s.big guitars and irresistible songs.the choruses are some real anthems ready to play in american stadiums.love this record a real hard rock n roll american realise.you can buy it closed eyes.impossible to be disapointed.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: September 27, 2013 at 20:38
I've heard this band was put together by the songwriter Jack Ponti, to play his songs. I guess that might make Ponti the Maurice Starr of the Sunset Strip? This is pretty much textbook glam. You know it's going to be sleazy when the first words sung on the album are "Every time you lick my hand, my heart begins to kick." "Bang Go The Bells" and "Hammer Swings Down" being fun and heavy rockers, and Sam Kinison offers a typically foul-mouthed spoken interlude on "The Kid Goes Wild." Nast guitars and smooth-to-gruff vocals, but who didn't have that in '89? In the end, the band just failed to distinguish themselves. Two decades later and trying to be jobective, the casual fancan be forgiven for finding the mmajority of these bands interchangeable.

From: hair metal again Date: March 30, 2017 at 10:28
explosive debut for BABYLON AD and one of the classics of the hair metal movement!bought it back in the day ,spinned it,got the groove and still cant get over it!massive all the way in terms of performing, songwriting, vibe and attitude B.A.D. create that hair metal masterpiece that will stand forever in every hard rock collection...brilliant
