This a very good rock album. Fans of the "new" Journey will know the voice here. I also have the cd that Steve sang on with Tyketto but his voice is much better here. If you are a fan of Boston, Journey, Bon Jovi or Styx pick up this cd if you can find it. I found mine in a Promo Table in a Wal-Mart for only $4.44. What a steal.

From: sixxswine Date: June 2, 2001 at 12:35
Love this one. I never paid much attention to this one when it first came out. I wish these guys would have gotten the push from the label. Journey fans pick this one up you will not be disappointed! I bought my near mint copy at Warehouse Music for $1.99! You can't beat that! Like the previous reviewer, I must agree that Steve sounds great on this disc. SWINE Scale? This one is a 9.0, yes it's that good. SIXXSWINE

From: Harvey Date: November 16, 2001 at 12:35
Still the best. If you like AOR buy it now before it becomes a rarity. It's been deleted so the low Ebay price can't last forever.

From: Paulo-Fernandes Date: November 18, 2001 at 7:44
Just got this yesterday, what an album! Mr Augeri never sounded better, and just "Stay With Me" is worth the price of the album. Great 9/10

From: koogles Date: January 1, 2002 at 15:02
Very listenable AOR but Journey's "Arrival" is Steve Augeri at the peak of his power. This only pulled the curtain open a little bit as to what Steve was capable of. "Restless One" is a moving ballad... would love to hear him cover it in the new Journey.

From: Mike Date: March 22, 2002 at 13:50
Relaxing! Ever heard "Stay With Me" while riding you car?

From: James Date: April 2, 2002 at 6:47
I pulled out this album again and it still gets better with every listen. it is a solid 9/10. You cant go wrong with this if you like AOR in the style of Journey, Styx, Boston, Foreigner.......

From: Desslar Date: April 5, 2002 at 12:42
Good AOR. Could use a LOT more rocking though.

From: Tony Date: April 11, 2002 at 4:09
Good overlooked cd that came out with just zero promotion or buzz. Really good songs with obviously a huge Journey-like sound. saw these guys open for Mr. Big and typical of bands of that era sounded way better live than on cd.

From: David Date: April 18, 2002 at 14:03
Heavy Harmonies my arse!, very soft music. Great voice and very good song writing but just to soft for me

From: ThunderDan Date: June 14, 2002 at 12:32
Good album! I pulled this one out last night and I still like it. The rockers rock hard, the ballads are good too. A must-have for AOR fans.

From: javi.valencia Date: June 23, 2002 at 5:06

Had this album for YEARS now and when i first bought it i said to my husband that Steve Augeri could be a standin for Steve Perry of JOURNEY if need be - who would of thought year's later that he actually would replace the frontman himself ! this album is definitely worth getting / although he sound's ALOT like Steve Perry this music still has it's own sound - different from Journey's. I am happy i got tha chance to catch this band LIVE when they we're still around and it was well worth it !

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: July 30, 2002 at 22:04
Now I know that I have left a comment on this band before! I must have been razzing someone a little bit to much and it got deleted?? Anyway, I saw these guys open for Mr. Big back in 1992. They called it "The Big and Tall Show." The only thing that I remember about this band is that the singer looked like Gene Wilder.

From: Desslar Date: July 31, 2002 at 12:03
I remember this album's first single coming out at about the same time as Pearl Jam's first single, and for some reason I kept confusing the two.

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: July 31, 2002 at 16:42
You were confusing the two because they both suck just the same!

From: Steve T Date: September 3, 2002 at 11:10
Fantastic album. End of story.

From: KORYCLARKE1991 Date: September 20, 2002 at 10:18
I REMEMBER WHEN "WILD ON THE RUN' CAME OUT IN MID TO LATE 1991, I DIDN'T PICK UP THE CD THEN, BUT ALWAYS REMEMBERED THE SONG, GOT IT ABOUT 7 YEARS LATER FORM THE COLUMBIA HOUSE BARGAIN BIN, A MUST FOR OBSCURE, HARD ROCK/HAIR METAL FREAKS LIKE MYSELF, AND ANYONE ELSE.

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 23, 2003 at 21:20
classic aor.oh well! i guess they dont make them like these anymore.

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: February 4, 2003 at 9:00

From: Gar Date: February 4, 2003 at 19:23
I got this cd as a cutout in a used record store for 50 cents a few years back. I didn't expect too much from it, but I loved it! I instantly recognized "Wild on the Run" because it had gotten a fair amount of radio play back in the day. Great song. This cd is worth having at any price(though you won't find it any cheaper than I did).

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: March 2, 2003 at 16:26

From: freddy de keyze Date: March 3, 2003 at 18:46
Very good CD indeed ! But not pure AOR, more melodic hardrock. It's hard and furious, but done with style. Not a classic, but good !

Wild On The Run is one of the best melodic rock tracks I've ever heard! The rest of the album simply ROCKS! Great CD...

From: AORMILWAUKEE Date: November 15, 2003 at 10:32
Es un super clasico con grandes temas a must-have, it doesn't get better than this amigos!!! Compra o muere 10/10.

From: javi-valencia Date: November 17, 2003 at 19:58

Neal Schon said in an interview that when he heard the singer sing the single from the album that came out in 92' he had to pull his car over and listen to the whole song well i have to say why? this cd sucks and so does the singer though he may be a nice guy but he has to drop the perry voice even if he sounds that way he sucks and this cd does as well nothing good whatsoever

From: jessica96fish Date: March 6, 2004 at 11:42
hey jade are we listening to the same album.yes he may sound like the journey singer.but this cd is top class.from start to finnish.BUY BUY BUY......

Awesome cd-one of the top 10 melodic releases of all time

From: Rycheage Date: March 11, 2004 at 23:15
The music is harder edged melodic rock, with glimpses of Urgent and Diving For Pearls plus a few others knocking at the door. It's catchy, commercial, and it rocks big time! The opener 'Wild On The Run' gets us under way with a Tyketto styled romp. 'Crawling Back' is a highlight with it's slow build climaxing on the chorus. 'Sister Of Mercy' has that same tempered guitar fury approach as the band Hardline, a la Neal Schon.

I have been looking for this cd ever since buying ARRIVAL, the day it came out, and it finally came today. Bloody wicked!!!! I'm only 3 songs in and this cd is probably one of the best purchases I made this year. Thank god for E-Bay. Steve Augeri is probably my favorite vocalist now.

From: Jeff Date: April 20, 2004 at 15:59
Tall Stories was unfortunately lost in the shuffle in the early 90s. It's a shame, this CD is phenomenal! I have had in on cassette, and owned 2 CDs of it to date. They either get worn out or lost, but it's a mainstay in my collection. The guitar work on the album is first-rate, and the vocals - well, its Steve Augeri! A true gem in it's time, and I believe it could still hold it's own today. If you haven't heard this album - do your self a favor, and find a copy!

From: manos Date: May 2, 2004 at 10:25
ATTENTION! This album IS NOT AOR...It is a real rocker. It is not even close at Journey, Led Zeppelin is the influence here... Steve Augeri may be at Journey now and gets all credit for their astonishing revival and their great release ''Arrival'', but his past in Tall Stories may equivalently stand proud for its value and quality. This album is more close to the work he did with Tyketto on ''Shine'' album and it is absolutely worth buying it...I LOVE IT!

From: Daniele Date: May 8, 2004 at 9:53
Thanks for your comment Manos. I thought that this cd was more near to the Journey and Boston sound than to Tyketto. I don't know what to think. I would hear it but i can't find it. Anyone has nothong to comment about this album? Sounds similar to Journey, Boston, Foreigner and Styx or to Tyketto? Answaer required please. Byes..............

Of all the CD reviews I have read here at Heavy Harmonies, this CD has received the MOST in number. I used to live in TX when this album first came out. I heard "Wild On The Run" played on the radio. Great vibe. Weeks later, I heard "Chains Of Love" and was blown away by the huge hooks and harmonies. In the history of Rock music, there are only a FEW albums that are near-perfect...meaning, not a bad song in the batch and full-on solid musicianship. As a career musician myself, I can accurately s

This is one of those CDs everyone else but me seemed to get. I don't like it at all, and sold it many years ago. Not to say it is bad, just nowhere near what I consider good melodic rock. I guess it's nice AOR, but I remember being to bored by it and therefore it just had to go. Just my thoughts... very unspectacular.

From: Kip Date: August 30, 2004 at 23:48
I feel the same as Geoff, except there is one song I like so I kept it. 'Somewhere She Waits' is a decent tune. Other than that it's pretty boring, lifeless, by the numbers AOR. This should have been a rock CD. But when they tried to rock, like they did on the first track, they sould like their trying too hard. 3/10 for good production, one good song and a singer I enjoy listening to.

From: TIM (2) Date: September 16, 2004 at 2:55
IMO this has to be one of the most over-hyped and over-rated albums I've ever bought. It's all very well played and sung and produced etc, but if their idea of great chorus is just to keep repeating the song title over and over (i.e, "Wild on the Run") then they had a lot to learn. "Stay with Me" and "Somewhere She Waits" are good, but if I felt this would recoup more than just shipping costs then I'd stick it on eBay today. Very mediocre.6/10.

From: Dave Date: October 30, 2004 at 8:14
The first line off Tim's post sums this album up.After all the hype in some of the posts i thought we must have a classic album here but as i found out ,that could not be further from the truth. My opinion , very over rated !!!!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: December 17, 2004 at 13:31
I agree with most of the writers, this ain't an aor album. By the way,is it Steve A. still singing with Journey?.

From: PODEROSO YIRO Date: January 16, 2005 at 14:36
GRAN DISCO DE AOR, TAL VEZ NO EL MAS ORIGINAL, PERO SI DE ENORME CALIDAD Y CANCIONES EXCELENTES TALES COMO "STAY WITH ME"(TOTALMENTE JOURNEY SIN NEAL SCHON) "SOMEWHERE SHE WAITS", "CLOSE YOUR EYES". TALL STORIES POSEIAN MUCHO DE SONIDO JOURNEY PERO ELLOS LE AGREGABAN INFLUENCIAS FUNKYS EN TEMAS COMO "CHAINS OF LOVE" Y "WILD ON THE RUN", Y PUES SI, AUGERI Y SI TRABAJO VOCAL CON GRANDES SIMILITUDES EN PERRY

From: PODEROSO YIRO Date: January 16, 2005 at 14:42
AH Y PARA 9 CHAMPIONS A 1. PUES YO TAMBIEN HE ESTADO DE ACUERDO EN CASI TODOS TUS COMENTARIOS PERO AQUI SI DIFIERO CONTIGO. NO ES UN DISCO MARAVILLOSO, PERO SI SE LE TIENE EN CUENTA CUANDO HABLAMOS DE JOURNEY, YA QUE AQUI FUE DONDE AUGERI SE DIO A CONOCER...LUEGO FUE A TYKETTO Y REALIZO CON ELLOS UN DISCO QUE A MI ME PARECIO CIERTAMENTE IRREGULAR(EL "SHINE"). Y DESPUES LLEGO A JOURNEY Y EL RESTO YA ES HISTORIA

From: razzle Date: January 22, 2005 at 11:35

i discovered this item quite late to be honest , but i can say it fits perfectly between albums like 'dont come easy '(tyketto) and the debutalbum of'diving for pearls'.. Class act and discovered way too late...

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: April 26, 2005 at 23:49

From: Lennie Date: September 29, 2005 at 6:45
Only about the last 10 posts here make any sense. This album is pretty lifeless and certainly does NOT rock as has been suggested above! I find the whole affair quite boring. The only song which grabs me is 'Crawling back'....the rest, well its just nice and safe isnt it. Check out Steve on Journey's 'Arrival' if you want to hear a slab on awesome AOR. Leave this dud on the shelf.

From: PODEROSO YIRO Date: November 29, 2005 at 21:01
QUE TAL AMIGO RAFO PHOENIX... MUCHOS MENCIONAMOS A TYKETTO DEBIDO A QUE STEVE AUGERI FORMO PARTE DE ELLOS EN EL ALBUM "SHINE" DEL 95, EL CUAL ES BASTANTE IRREGULAR Y PRETENCIOSO. AUGERI SUSTITUYO AL GENIAL DANNY VAUGHN Y SE PENSABA QUE TYKETTO HIBA A SONAR AUN MAS A JOURNEY, PERO EL SONIDO DE ESE DISCO QUISO TENDER AL ROCK DE LOS 70S MAS BIEN... AHORA, QUE SI QUIERES SABER MI OPINION ENTRE AMBAS BANDAS, TE DIGO QUE TYKETTO TIENEN MAS CALIDAD, SON MAS SOLIDOS Y RELEVANTES EN EL AOR

From: SteveT Date: April 8, 2006 at 6:17
Listening to this as we speak. I like this CD way more now than when i first had it - excellent stuff! Guitarist reminds me of a rockier version of now deceased Kevin MacMichael of Cutting Crew. Augeri's voice is awseome on this as well. Wouldn't class this as AOR really, probably commercial hard rock.

From: mauricio Date: July 2, 2006 at 16:33

From: mauricio Date: July 2, 2006 at 16:34

From: mauricio Date: July 2, 2006 at 16:35

From: PODEROSO YIRO Date: October 30, 2006 at 22:48
MAURICIO, SALUDOS!... ESTOY DE ACUERDO CONTIGO EN MUCHOS ASPECTOS, AUNQUE EN LO PERSONAL CREO QUE HUGO ES DEMASIADO PRETENCIOSO EN SU AFAN POR SONAR A STEVE PERRY(Y EN PARECERSE A EL FISICAMENTE, USA EL MISMO PEINADO!!), NO CREO QUE HUBIESE SIDO BUENA IDEA TENER A HUGO EN JOURNEY, AUNQUE RECONOZCO QUE HA HECHO BUENOS DISCOS, COMO LO FUE EN SU MOMENTO "VALENTINE" Y SU MATERIAL EN SOLITARIO... Y PUES SI, CON LA LLEGADA DE AUGERI A TYKETTO, EL ESTILO DE LA BANDA DIVAGO COMPLETAMENTE, NI MODO

From: Clayton77 Date: December 12, 2006 at 13:15
Fantastic album...it sounds ike JOURNEY at its best!!!! Hear "Somewhere she waits" and you`ll know what I mean!!!!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: December 18, 2006 at 21:45
Good album but hard to define its musical direction.Could be aor, melodic rock or hard rock but with the talented Steve Augeri in it makes it a good choice to pick."Chain of love" is pure aor heaven. If you want a comparisson Journey would fit just fine.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: December 18, 2006 at 21:51
Steve's having problems right now with Journey, isn't he?

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 8, 2011 at 16:25
Ok let's be more specific...as my dear friend Rafo Phoenix said...Melodic Rock with some touches of AOR would be the best to describe this...a rounded album for sure with great tracks IMHO..."Chain Of Love","Crawling Back","Sister Of Mercy","Stay With Me"(solid ballad),"Somewhere She Waits","Never Enough"..tracks that would appeal to any self respected Melodic Rock lover...Steve Augeri at the end had more than a decent acting with Journey if we are talking ore deeply about what is the highlight of this band(what or who??? )...get this, you won't be dissapointed...94/100

From: hair metal again Date: August 25, 2011 at 9:34
this is an excellent hard rock release !frank filipetti in production does the job and the songwriting is awesome.ALL the songs are remarkable and very well structured and performed.i really don t understand why everybody calls that kind of music AOR!back then i didnt hear that word so often

From: edwithmj Date: July 5, 2016 at 19:25
I didn't know what to expect before getting this (especially considering the somewhat mixed reviews on here) but ultimately I'm glad I did because this is a monster of an album. Steve Augeri has a heck of a voice and it's easy to work out why he fronted Journey for nearly a decade. Steve was also in Tyketto for a bit and this album has a few similarities with that band's sound in my opinion. Wild on the Run is a great opener, Crawling Back is probably my favourite (such a wonderful song), Sister of Mercy is a hard rocker with excellent bits of slide guitar thrown in, Stay With Me and Somewhere She Waits are both very melodic ballads with the latter being the softer of the two, my final pick is the powerful Restless One which oozes with Augeri's emotional vocals. I have absolutely no idea why this isn't recognised as one of the best CDs on this site because it has all the ingredients and sounds of other favourites of the genre.

From: Doug Date: July 7, 2016 at 11:16
This is a CD that I used to own and stupidly traded it for some unforgettable album. Dumb on my part; I need to get it. "Wild on the Run" is a fantastic song.
