Heavy Harmonies Review
From: Dan Date: March 16, 2003 at 23:23
Ok, so this isn't really a new album to me. I met the band last year at UltraSound 2000 in Las Vegas, and a nicer bunch of guys you'll never meet. They performed several of the songs that now appear on this album. Melodic AOR/hard rock, for the most part fairly laid back. Marty's voice can be described as very similar to Jon Bon Jovi or Bryan Adams, and the songs do have a very Bon Joviesque sound to them. Comparison to "midwest" rock ala John Cougar Mellancamp can also be made, more in terms of the overall feel; I can picture these guys sitting on a pier at sundown on a Saturday night, just kicking back, having a few brews, and jamming. The hooks and melodies are infectious, and you'll find yourself humming the choruses away from the stereo after a listen or two.

If I have to pick nits (and I do, I do , it would not be in the area of performance or songwriting, but rather the production and mix. This type of music screams out for a more lush and cleaner mix. Give these guys 4 weeks in the studio with Mutt Lange and LOOK OUT! As with all other Kivel Records releases of late the artwork and packaging are top notch; extremely professional. All in all, if you're out cruising with the top down and want some feel-good music to blast, this is the album for it!

Great CD! Sounds like S/T-Slippery era Bon Jovi, with a little White Lion in the mix. Great guitars, cool vocals/harmonies. Melodic metal lives! Looking forward to #2 from these guys.

Smilek is a fairly good hard rock band...reminiscient of early Warrant and Bon Jovi. This band was formed from the ashes of "cult" Indie band Foxx..Not a bad disc..but it certainly doesn't touch Adriangale's new one...

I was not impressed with this. I don't feel that the White Lion, Winger etc. comparisons are accurate. If you want to listen to something that truly is on par with White Lion etc. check out 21 guns - Salute. Smilek falls into a large group of bands that represent a frightening trend. We are willing to listen to this and call it "great" simply because it doesn't sound like the Seattle grung shit of the 90's.

forgot the e. Make that grunge above.

From: Sarah J. Date: May 20, 2003 at 19:34
This CD has the best songwriting I've heard in a long time. Roxy is my favorite. By far one of my favorite overall discs. Could use a little on the production end. Very under rated band. SJ

Un album de puta madre. Directo y de buen rollo. Solo cabe escuchar Heartbeat in a heart. COOL!

From: gener8tr Date: August 26, 2004 at 18:56
The title track would have fit very nicely on Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet album right between Bad Name and Prayer... It really is just that good. The rest of the CD is just okay to me.

From: Geoff Date: August 26, 2004 at 21:02
Simply one of the best melodic hard rock releases I have heard in many, many years. I never skip one of the entire 14 songs and for me, that says a LOT. Just a killer release, with melodic gems like 'Shot of your love', 'Heartbeat in a heart', 'Wind and reign' and the title track, the two absolutely perfect ballads and overall an abundance of killer melodic hard rock. Essential release! Purchase if you haven't!

From: Bradley Date: September 2, 2004 at 16:05
WOW! I have kind of a biased opinion because my dad is the drummer. But at the same time im not the big fan of the other bands that everyone thinks they sound like. I really like this CD i got it for Christmas and kind of blew it off but ever since last week i cant stop listening to it. The lyrics are awesome. I give it 2 thumbs up!!

album tributo-parodia a Bon Jovi y el hard rock americano

From: Vish Date: June 25, 2005 at 10:33
hey i was wondering what the song "Christened by Fire" means ? also is it a Christian praise song

From: juan carlos Date: November 15, 2007 at 14:19
Pensé que iba a ser malo por ese inicio(Christened By Fire)pero me equivoqué pues el resto(la mayoría) es un excelente HardRock Melódico, lástima que la producción no sea del todo buena sobretodo por ese sonido de la bateria muy simplona. "Heartbeat in a Heart" "Sentimental Highway".. y el listón sigue.. 8/10
