Pretty hit-and-miss. Back in 1995, I singled out "Hope Once Again" "Peaceful and Warm" and "Under the Knife" as highlights, but don't listen to this much nowadays so- really- how good were they??

Possibly the best Kansas for your money, and this is coming from a longtime admirer. Some have taken Walsh to task for sounded "strained," but the rough edges just add humanity. No one writes songs like this anymore, hard-prog with gritty, street-opera lyrics. "Under the Knife" is moving as hell and "Need" is an experimental pop tune that sounds like Peter Gabriel. This is Kansas refusing to get ther creative wings clipped--then "Somewhere to Elsewhere" came out and it was Seventies SOP.

Love it. Not the Kansas from the '70s, but in many ways it is as enjoyable. Certainly a band that consistently bring out the best in themselves, whatever direction they decide to lean in.

Excellent stuff, now available very cheaply and well worth it for the few killer tracks. Kerry Livgren played on this one again, and the violin plays a heavy part in proceedings. "Hope Once Again" is haunting stuff, and as good as anything they've done previously. Sounds a tad dated these days though.

Criminally overlooked Kansas release. Really classic sounding Kansas and for me this almost on par with their mid 70's stuff. Love all the songs on this but my standouts are Hope Once Again, Need, Cold Grey Morning and Peaceful and Warm. David Ragsdale is a good stand in for Robbie Stienhardt. If you liked Kansas but didn't follow up on anything after Elephante joined then grab this...and the rest of the post Vinyl Confessions stuff because you are missing out.
