Better than average but nowhere near their earlier stuff like 'Frontiers' or 'Escape.' Some good songs though.

Id put this album right up beside Escape or Frontiers any day. A superb recording and quite a come back for this band. Stand out tracks are 'Once You Love Somebody', 'I'll be Allright Without You', Why Can't This Night Go On Forever, etc. A must have for any Journey fan.

Journey has four classic albums of all time .This is the fourth .It may not be in the vain of the other classics(namely Infinity,Escape & Frontiers)but stands out as the ultimate smooth AOR album that others will try to emulate for years to come.

Journey's 'West Coast' album. A real winner even though, at times, it sounds more like a Steve Perry solo album than a Journey record. 'Why Can't This Night Go On Forever?' is a forgotten masterpiece. 'Positive Touch' is another diamond in the rough. Add in the hits and you've got one great CD. Given the two throwaway tracks on 'Frontiers', this was, next to 'Escape', their most cohesive album.

Following Frontiers after 3 years or so was never going to be easy, but this is a great record that probably defined the whole AOR genre. I don't think it's as good Escape or Frontiers, but that's my personal taste, I prefered the 'Metal' edge of the previous two. Listen to Perry's cry of 'all I wanted was to hold you...' on I'll Be Allright without You..and tell me it dosen't move you. Other great songs on this album are Girl Can't Help It & Once You Love Somebody.

For all those guys thinking that Van Stephenson or I-Ten are too soft !!!!! What do you think of this, probably the worst CD Journey ever released !! Why ? Because this is no longer AOR but soft pop !!! No guitars at all, or very soft !!! This is indeed more an Steve Perry solo CD and bad !! All tame ballads. Boring !! Frontiers is still their best !!!!

Exactly! This is a solo Steve Perry album masquerading as a Journey album. It's pretty good, but it definitely ain't Journey. Listen to this back to back with FRONTIERS and you'll see the difference.

This is the finest Journey album without a shadow of a doubt. The best Production, The best vocal work by Perry ever, and the Best songs that the band ever wrote. How anyone who supposedly loves AOR can slag this album is beyond me (Freddy De Keyze, i agree with a lot of your comments about certain bands but you are sadly so wrong with this one my friend). This album DESTROYS Escape and Frontiers instantly from the very first cut. This is the materpiece Journey album. This is THE ONE.

Because it's more a Perry solo effort, full of ballads and far too poppy ! Where are Neils wonderfull guitarsolo's ? But if you like it, alright. I think this is my favorite Journey album. Why? There are NO songs on this record that bother me to the point of skipping it. There's no 'Back Talk', or 'Open Arms', or 'Dead Or Alive'. Is it more of a Perry solo album? I WISH Perry could put out a solo album as consistent as this. 9.5/10.

Freaky-who says this rocks in the above comments? And actually Raised On Radio (the title track) is an out and out rocker (the only 1 granted). When did you last listen to these. Normally you are spot on but your hatred of Journey I think clouds your opinion. I say this because you claim no rockers when they ARE BLATANTLY THERE. I think you should perhaps now write about the ones you like, because your credibilitiy is starting to slide downhill rapidly.

'Be good to yourself' is perfect AOR - all soaring harmonies, melody and some simple melodic guitar lines from Neal Schon. Rest of the album is still good but nothing like Escape...our band were even called Still We Ride after the classic song (and I know it's Still They Ride!)

Not the best release from Journey, but good nonetheless. 'Girl Can't Help It', 'Be Good To Yourself', I'll Be Alright Without You', and 'Raised On Radio' highlight a good CD. Not their best, mind you, and not their hardest but recommended for AOR lovers out there.

I'm a big fan of Journey, but I just had their greatest hits album, bought this one and woww, it's awesome!, not their best efford but still so great.... The song 'Suzanne' is so cool! it's my favorite from the whole album.... I recommend this album just for the die hard fans of Journey... people not used to Journey with their Greatest hits package would be alright....cheers from MEXICO.

Soft ? Yeah, but it really fitted the year, AOR in it's heyday. Journey is Steve Perry and Steve Perry is Journey. I think they dont need to be harder than this. Raised On Radio is hard enough. Anyway, one hell of an album. Less guitars and many keyboards. It's great to listen to it while watching the distant sunset.

This album is so 'summer of 1986,' and I mean that in a good way, too! 'Suzanne' and 'Be Good To Yourself' rate right up there with any other songs Journey's released (except maybe their all-time classic 'Don't Stop Believing.') This is nothing short of a 'feel-good' AOR / Melodic Rock classic.

Wow! You can take the easy way out and list Escape or Frontiers as your favorite Journey albums, but in my book Raised On Radio is their best effort, and fit 1986 like a glove! Suzanne and Be Good To Yourself are perhaps the best back-to-back tracks since Ozzy's Over The Mountain and Flying High Again (no musical comparison)! I wore out two cassette tapes back in the day constantly hitting the rewind button. I'll Be Alright Without You and Girl Can't Help It are also fantastic.

Just an honest question, no harm intended but I'm a little curious. What makes this soft pop and others AOR? I admit I am not very well versed on AOR and limit my AOR liking to the bands that blow me away like Outside Edge, Ransom ('Trouble in paradise') and Outland, though I'd label them melodic rock without a second's doubt. But what makes this soft pop and all those bands AOR Freaky mentions about the place AOR? I'm not offended as I don't like Journey either... just curious.

Geoff-AOR Freaky HATES Journey and therefore anything he shares with us about them is bias and drivel. This is AOR make no mistake. This was a very ballad heavy release with a softer sound (only the title track features Schon in any way shape or from. The other bands stated perhaps more of guitar /keyboard balance.

Glad to see I might not be losing it Rockhead (?). Because for me AOR is not so much the keyboard / guitar balance, but more the style of song writing. Eg. To me, Toto and Tommy Denander is just a COMPLETELY different stlye of song writing compared to melodic hard rock eg. Fate, Jaded Heart, Steelhouse Lane etc. To the point where I love the latter 3 bands but strongly dislike the former 2. But as you say, to me this is as AOR as any others, whether I like it or not

Yeah, we have been here before Wotty and I apologise to you again. I mean no harm, it's just the way I feel. He's doing great things for the industry and I like about 2 songs of the two Prisoner CDs, there's a great ballad on the Jim Jidhed CD but it hurt when he destroyed Talk of the Town's 2nd CD (Also one good song ), stripped them of all their own identity. I appreciate what he does, but am certainly not a fan of those style of songs. Sorry mate.

You have a point, Rockhead : I don't like Journey, but in all honesty, this ain't AOR at all. Call it a Perry solo CD (the man likes ballads, not rockers). Bad CD ! And to prove I do not hate Journey : they made with 'Send Her My Love' one of the all-time best ballads ! But my problem with this band is : not one CD is consistant ! Tracks 1,3,4,7 aren't ballads for starters, dare i say that 'Raised On Radio' the song even rocks a little. Journey have always written softer stuff, which is half the reason i love them in the first place, and AOR genre in general. Alot of the Westcoast AOR stuff (which ROR basically is), is as soft as this if not more so in places - check out Spin Gallery, Crossfade, Heartplay, Toto or listen to some of the sappy stuff Boston, Foreigner, Styx and the like have recorded in the past.

Super release from Journey. Steve Perry is on top form and Neal Schons deft touches on guitar shine. A very very polished effort .. superb production. Be Good to Yourself should be everyone's anthem to themselves when they feel a little pissed off! My old local used to have this CD on the jukebox and playing BGtY was always the first thing I did even before going to the bar! Ahh excellent memories!

Hell- 'Be Good to yourself' is soft compared to even Sammy Hagar. Who cares? To me the quality is just not there. I love Journey's ballads and love their 'heavier' stuff. The mid tempo tunes just don't have the same oomph to them. And BTW i do prefer Slayer and Vio-lence though the AOR Gods may strike me down. IMO- Escape is still the ultimate Journey disc.

I'll never understand why too many people overrate JOURNEY,10/10?...i don't think so juan carlos.As many people said above,this album reminds more Perry's personal career and songs like 'oh derry' (1,8,10) and not the well-known JOURNEY we all love (escape,frontiers).Namely ballads,ballads and ballads...only 'be good to yourself' really rocks, average work.

Hi juan carlos. As we've said maaaaaaany times and as you said, tastes differ. You seem to love the lite stuff saying you love Steve Perry's works and this album,no problem. Personally i believe that's an average album and nothing more.I would reply VAN STEPHENSON,BLVD,AGENT even STRANDED if you ask me what FM/AOR means and not this boring album.And about Coverdale: I totally agree,the man has THE voice! '1987' is one the best albums ever released and my personal fav hardrock album of all times!

The debate goes on & on with this one, which is fine, but for Gods sake we all know by now what AOR is, most of us have been listening to it for the last 25 plus + so don't need any more lists of what is & what isn't. This IS in definition an AOR album,end of story. What is the obsession with calling this a Pop album!!!!It is pretty ballad heavy in general (no more so than 'Trial By Fire'IMO), but as I mentioned in my original post, at least 5 tracks on here certainly aren't ballads(1,2,3,4,7).

There some good parts (eg tracks 1,4 & 8) and some bad! To be honest everyone harps on about Frontiers but that simply does not compare with Infinity and Evolution - they are the true great albums along with Escape. cheers

Mixed comments above about this release...whether it 'rocks' or it 'softs' this is a very very but very pleasant album...better than Frontiers or Escape???...a matter of tastes,those 2 basically defined Journey as a band and gave them the position they are now as one of the biggest AOR bands in the world...apart from the 3 hit singles ('Girl Can't Help It','Be Good To Yourself' & 'I'll Be Alright Without You')there are other great songs such as 'Positive Touch'(catchy),'Suzanne','Raised On Radio' & 'The Eyes Of A Woman'(nice smoothie)...for me this is a highly recommended album...essential???...up 2 you guys...94/100

I agree with Wotty. Everyone must understand and remember this album came out in 1986!! 1986 was probably the MOST remembered years in AOR/ROCK music for their BALLADS. Think Journey - Faithfully, Age Of Faith - Will I Find Love, Air Supply - Lost In Love. Some hard rock ballads were Aerosmith - Angel, Europe - Carrie, Firehouse - Love Of A Lifetime and Warrant - Heaven just to name a few. The 80's WERE known well for their BALLADS. This album isn't IMO the BEST of Journey BUT it still is enjoyable to listen to. And at the end of the day isn't THAT what is MOST important?!!
