Top notch stuff from one o the best bands around. Not quite as good as the previous "Weight Of The World" masterpiece but still excellent and catchy as all hell (I can't stop listening to it). My main complaint is that it's just too short - clocking in at just under 38 minutes. The Japanese release has a cool bonus track ("Wishing"). If you love Harem Scarem (like I do) and also enjoyed the recent Harry Hess solo album then this is definitely for you. Harem Scarem can do no wrong in my book. Sup

Great album just like the others.

From: M. Allen Date: October 24, 2003 at 18:38
So frickin' good it would be worth hacking off your left nut if you had to in order to listen to it again. Harry Hess and company are masters at crafting catchy melodic hard rock songs with incredible hooks, perfect choruses, and awesome harmony vocals. If you're a melodic hard rock junkie looking for your next fix, the drug doesn't come much purer than this awesome release.

From: DivineTragedy Date: November 5, 2003 at 7:05

OK,I've just listened to this CD for the 3rd time all the way through,(and twice in a row this morning)and I swear my blood sugar level has gone through the roof!Yes, the choruses and harmonies are top notch, and the musicianship is excellent, but for me, this is WAY too light an affair. It is so sugar coated...the songs all just flow one into another with little or no change in style and no identities of their own.I guess IMO this one just lacks conviction,BALLS if you will. Not my cup of tea...

From: Janxy Date: November 13, 2003 at 14:05
Harem Scarem have brought it back to basics by making one of those albums that have a consistent great vibe. They've distilled their recent sound and written the perfect collection of tracks to complement it. Catchy, simple, straight-forward melodic hard rock like it used to be back in the day. Love it!

From: Harvey Date: November 26, 2003 at 17:41
After making a complete ass of myself telling all my AOR chums that this was the best melodic hard rock album of the last 15 years, I have to confess that I obviously didn't listen properly! There are some seriously god tunes on here (Waiting, Higher, Give It To you) but it doesn't play like an album...more a cobbled together collection of songs. The lyrics are bland and there is no overall "feel". Nice try guys...but Mood Swings this ain't!!

From: PODEROSO YIRO Date: January 1, 2004 at 23:46
SALUDOS ROBERT Y A TODOS, MI OPINION SOBRE HIGHER: EXCELENTE PRODUCCION COMO SIEMPRE, AL IGUAL QUE EL SONIDO, SIN EMBARGO LA MAYORIA DE LAS CANCIONES SON FLOJAS Y POR MOMENTOS SE ACERCAN A UN ROCK MUY LIGHT, ESPERO QUE ESTA NO SEA LA DIRECCION QUE VAYA A TOMAR HAREM SCAREM, YO PREFIERO EL SONIDO DE "WEIGHT OF THE WORLD", AUNQUE SI PUDIERAN EVOLUCIONAR A PARTIR DEL "MOOD SWINGS" MUCHO MEJOR. DESTACARIA "WAITED"(CON GRAN GANCHO COMERCIAL), "LOST", y "GIVE IT TO YOU"

From: robert Date: January 2, 2004 at 13:05

From: Mallorca's rock Date: January 5, 2004 at 8:40

From: scott Date: January 13, 2004 at 2:59
this album is the album of the year just like weight of the world.harem are the masters of writing great catchy songs.if they were ever to release a cd in the usa they would be one of the bigggest bands.lost is the best song on the cd and it kicks ass

From: AOR freaky Date: January 13, 2004 at 11:15
What an overrated band ! Their first is a classic, but the rest ? Modern stuff and not one of their records runs over the 40 minutes ! A shame, because you pay the full price ! Album of the year ! Don't think so : look at the net worldwide for melodic rock at least. Album of the year is without a doubt : Pride Of Lions ! Head and shoulders above the competition, and nearly seventy minutes of top AOR, on par with the eighties ! Check it out !!!

From: Tony BCN Date: February 21, 2004 at 19:30

From: CTS Date: April 12, 2004 at 22:19
Expected more after WOTW, but still a great CD. Have a feeling that most who rate it as the best CD of 2003 etc didn't hear WOTW. Still a great effort.

From: rock_dawg1 Date: May 9, 2004 at 21:41
This one is a bit better then Harem's WOTW (IMHO) the songwriting team of Hess and Lesperance pull out all the stops and deliver with some of the best material out there. From the catchy lyrics to Pete Lesperance's signature guitar playing this album shines as their best release to date! Sorry Freaky but I have to disagree with you Pride Of Lions is nothing special and Hess is 10 times the vocalist that Toby Hitchcock is (IMO)

From: AOR freaky Date: May 10, 2004 at 4:40
I really have to disagree ! This is the WORST BAND EVER !!!!! They destroyed AOR !, with their modern nu-breed noises ! CRAP !!!! And a pity if you don't like Pride Of Lions ! I prefer one note of theme above all HS albums together !!!! And Hess a great vocalist ! You must be joking ! Better than Hitchcock ! Don't think so ! But I you really like THE BIGGEST CRAP EVER RELEASED, listen to HS ! I HATE 'EM BIG WAY ! RUBBISH, like Rubber, like they were once called. No quality, no quantity, that's HS

From: Rockhead Date: May 10, 2004 at 5:08
I don't like this album as much as earlier efforts. It does sound very NUmetal and dosn't mix the classic with the modern as well as WOTR.

From: Blue Charvel Date: May 10, 2004 at 8:45
As Freaky says, "Hess a great vocalist" "Better than Hitchcock!" "Listen to HS!" Sounds like you really love these guys Freddy, glad to see your tastes have finally changed for the better buddy! Kisses!

From: Dean Date: May 10, 2004 at 20:30
Wayyyyyyyy too poppy for me. But it sure as hell was better than Pride of Lions. Sorry Freddy.

From: rock_dawg1 Date: May 10, 2004 at 20:36
To each his own Freaky you don't have to pity me I tried to get into Pride Of Lions but Hitchcock's voice comes off as annoying to me. For me Scarem's Higher is some of their best material yes it has a modern influence but the guitars and vocals are first rate. Scarem have diversity to their music and their not afraid to explore a bit and I support them in whatever they put out. Some can except the changes others can't doesn't effect me one bit as I stand firmly by Harem Scarem and Higher.

From: AOR freaky Date: May 11, 2004 at 8:01
Hi, Blue Charvel: how clever and smart you are. A pity you are besides deaf (your awful taste !) also blind : I think I have posted more comments on NEW acts than you ! But : keep sleeping ! To Dean and rock_dawg1 : I respect your choice guys !, but may I say you're not real, pure AOR fans ? ! After all : a lot of people on this site here even like The Rasmus and The Darkness and they think they are great ! HAhaha . . . ! But now wonder if see the USA charts (crap all the way). All the best !

From: Rockhead Date: May 11, 2004 at 8:08
Freaky-To really appreciate AOR are you suggesting that you cannot listen too or appreciate other forms of music? Can I not be a real pure AOR fan and still listen too/like other forms of music as well?

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: May 11, 2004 at 8:51
"But now wonder if see the USA charts (crap all the way)." Um, okay...what? If you are trying to say in your pidgeon English that the US charts are crap, then we are definitely in agreement. I don't listen to anything on the US charts at all. We are also in agreement that I am indeed clever and smart. One thing I am unclear on though is whether I am deaf or have poor taste. One would think the two would be mutually exclusive... I think everyone knows you hate HS, why keep repeating yourself?

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: May 11, 2004 at 8:53
And Rockhead, to answer your question, no you cannot listen to any other music than AOR, unless it's really old like Uriah Heep or Legs Diamond. Other than that you can only listen to Pride of Lions, Mecca, and maybe Van Stephenson in a pinch. Hope that helps...

From: Rockhead Date: May 11, 2004 at 8:58
Blue-i am so glad you have been able to put me right on this subject (LOL). I am in the process of burning on a big fire all my non-aor and mid 70's classics so that I cannot be drawn from the righteous path of AOR any more. I need to be punished, I am bad, bad, bad. As pennance I am listening to Pride of lions over and over until I have washed these false god music trends from my consciousness.

From: Rockhead Date: May 11, 2004 at 9:03
Blue-you are indeed clever and smart-I still cannot fathom what the hell the Freaks last thread means (LOL). YOu are indeed a suthsayer of tongues!!

Don't feel too bad Rockhead, I accidentally listened to a Journey album the other day until I realised how overrated and totally not classic they are...

From: Rockhead Date: May 11, 2004 at 9:30
Journey used to be my favourite band until I realised that they were overated having only released drivel for the last 30 odd years!! I now use the cds as mug coasters. I am so glad the scales have been cast from my eyes!!

From: Blue Charvel Date: May 11, 2004 at 9:37
Thanks to our Rock 'n' Roll Saviour, a new day has dawned. A day in which the false music shall be cast down from the heavens to crawl at the feet of the true sounds of AOR. A day in which nevermore shall be heard blues influence, distorted vocals, de-tuned guitars, angst-ridden lyrics. A day in which only the comments of the righteous will be heard, and the false prophets silenced forever! Oh the light, the light...it burns as it cleanses...

From: Rockhead Date: May 11, 2004 at 9:46
Death to false AOR!! if only Manowar were an AOR band-we need never buy another artists product again!! I can only thank the righteous AORone for showing me the way to true enlightenment.

From: AOR freaky Date: May 12, 2004 at 4:15
Blue Charvel and Rockhead : how funny, but also childish you are guys ! I don't expect anything others from Blue Charvel, and indeed, my english is not perfect at all. Do you agree to conversate in French or Dutch or . . . Then we'll see who laughs !? Childish man : probably english is your mother tongue, not mine ! Give your comment in French, I'll answer ! C'mon, big mouth ! And Rockhead : did I ever insult you ? Didn't think so ! Well, I'm disappointed ! Listen to crappy Journey and this !

From: Rockhead Date: May 12, 2004 at 4:39
Ahhhh Freaky-No one has insulted you. You always take things toooo personally!!! Have you NO sense of humour? Don't be disapointed, just join in and if occasionally the fun is at your expense, laugh with it!! Sometimes your threads are hard to decipher-if you cannot laugh along that is indeed very sad!!

From: AOR freaky Date: May 12, 2004 at 4:45
My excuses, Rockhead ! But a lot of people attack and insult me personally and it's not always easy to handle that. I have a passion for AOR, and I defend that genre, because it's nearly gone ! But I'm also a big pomp, melodic hardrock, hardrock, powerrock, symphonic and progressive rock/metal fan. Even a lot of metal I like ! You asked me once if I only liked AOR ! Here is your answer ! The only things I can't stand are pure blues, covers, nu-metal, alternative, most glam, acoustic & nu-breed.

From: Rockhead Date: May 12, 2004 at 6:06
Well Freaky-that is a pretty definative answer reference your musical likes (LOL)!!! We actually like alot (but not all) of the same genres, and as elder citizens we can remember the 70's and early 80's having been there. If some poke fun, don't take it seriously-it is not meant to be a personal attack. Here's to many more differences of opinion!

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: May 12, 2004 at 8:25
Well Freaky, you're right I should not have attacked your English, I will grant you that. I would suggest however that you learn to accept that your opinion is just as "right" or "wrong" as everyone else's. We like many of the same bands as much as I love to say otherwise, but we have differing opinions on many bands as well. That doesn't mean either of us has bad taste, just different tastes. I may not be as old as you, but I'm not a spring chicken either, 40 will be here before I know it.

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: May 12, 2004 at 8:28
Keep in mind that I am just as passionate about my musical choices as you are, so it can be taken as quite the personal attack when you answer someone's positive comment about a band you don't like with one of your little comments like "pure rubbish, I would expect (insert Marla, T-BONE, Blue Charvel) to like it, no taste man, pure crap". Kind of the same way you feel when someone says something negative about a band you really like (like POL for example...).

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: May 12, 2004 at 8:32
Try respecting other people's opinions as much as you would like your own respected and I think you will find you suffer far fewer "personal attacks", who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends. Well that's about as rational as I can get before I have a cup of coffee...I'm sure you'll ignore this and continue to insult me but I just figured I'd give it one more shot. Cheers!

From: Rockhead Date: May 12, 2004 at 8:39
Very eloquently put Mr Charvel-Enjoy your coffee!!

From: MJ (Marla) Date: May 12, 2004 at 8:43
*Sigh* MESSAGE BOARDS, Freddy / Freaky / Revenger / Avenger.....whichever super-hero underpants you're wearing today....PLEASE, come over to the message boards and let's all discuss it there... You've been repeatedly invited to come and argue your points (read: sling your insults) there..... We're really a friendly bunch... NOW...back on topic: I LOVE HAREM SCAREM!!!!! This is an excellent release!! My favorite tracks are "Give It To You", "Torn Right Out" and "Waited"

From: Rockhead Date: May 12, 2004 at 8:45
Mornin' MJ

From: AOR freaky Date: May 13, 2004 at 4:05
To MJ, Blue Charvel and Rockhead: all is forgiven ! No hard feelings ! And the reason why I'm not on the message board is simple : I'm removed, censored ! It's the truth and I regret that ! All the best and enjoy what you like, I'll enjoy what I like !

From: Dean Date: May 13, 2004 at 12:19
Freaky- you are totally correct- I'm not much of an AOR fan but i still try to give a lot of it a shot. Most of what i consider good AOR you hate anyway so it's just a matter of taste. It's just when you insist your opinions are right and everyone else wrong is where the conflict hits. We do actually agree on some of the heavier stuff.

From: rocknroll Date: March 30, 2005 at 15:44
This is more a Harem Scarem album than the latest releases. It's not a true Harem Scarem but it is worth trying it. 6/16

From: z4roxx Date: April 1, 2005 at 9:18
Great rate man!ahahaha!6/16 is too few for this excelleeeent release by the Godz Harem Scarem!I give them 58/72!!Harem Scarem rules form first cd to last one,I cannot wait for their new cd!!!!!!!!

From: Lennie Date: April 18, 2005 at 6:46
For me this is Harem's best album since their debut. All this commenting on their change in direction is quite baffling! I mean, let's faced it, their debut isnt exactly drowned in keys is it, so as far as I can hear, there isnt a massive difference between the songs on both albums??? Higher includes 10 HUGE melodic rock songs with massive choruses and perfect musicianship. What more could you want? A big 9.5/10.

From: MERADONA Date: May 6, 2005 at 16:32

From: Metalmusicman Date: December 10, 2006 at 21:15
HOLY CRAP!!! Didn't see that coming!!! For me, this is without a doubt their finest work since their powerhouse debut and it's amazing follow-up! This is truely this album the fans have been asking for. WOTW was a great return to the sound that made the famous, but this is just a better album. Tracks 1 - 5 may be some of the finest AOR songs ever recorded. I can't recomend this one enough!!!

From: YNGWIEVIKING Date: August 13, 2007 at 5:42
I think it's far from the quality of the 3 first cd , but even when they are in a average mood , they are much better than a lot of so-called AOR MASTERS out there ! 92/100

From: Lennie Date: August 15, 2007 at 7:51
Just to reiterate my comments above....probably my fav HS release. Not quite as rocking as moments of WOTW or MS but flawlessly melodic, fantastic choruses and NO filler which is the main thing. PS. good to see 80's Hero giving shit scores for HS albums and not commenting why?? ;-)
