This is the band that got 'lost' theyre trying to be a hard rockers version of The Beatles. Their 3 first releases are fantastic.....But then they went too soft.

My top release of the year so far (after the mighty New Styx - Cyclorama release). Some of the songs on this release are the best the band has ever written ('What I Like', 'Jamie's Not Alone'). Maybe too lite (in places) for some of their 'older' followers, but quality is quality i say. This one is going to be a hard one to beat come the end of the year.

Give it a chance- treat it like that cross-eyed kid who had a speech impediment on the playground and just wanted to play Nerf football with the cool guys. It does get better with repeated listens. Of course, this CD is the musical equivalent of a Nerf football in comparison to the tougher pigskin of earlier Gotthard releases. Gottsoft? Gottbetter I say.

Damn good cd, one of their best, the first six songs alone are worth the price of the cd - Just dont expect a come-back-to-roots album, thats behind them and i think it was a good move.

This the ALBUM OF THE YEAR!Good damned HARD ROCK.What a Voice! What a riffs! What a melodies! What a BAND!Human Zoo is more mature, and better than any other album.Listen to:Human Zoo,What I Like,Top Of The World,...and you'll see that it´s a Masterpiece!!!

Hi Paulo. Hmmmmmmm. I just got the new Pretty Maids 2 cd set. Now thats rock´n roll. I'll give Gotthard another try later. Atleast on this cd there are''traces'' of Hard Rock. On the previous releases, it was all nice melodies, and no hard rock at all. But I'LL give it another try.

This cd is really good, don't expect it to be like the debut or Dial Hard, it's more melodic. Saw these guys in Germany last week, what a show, the singer was fantastic, and he played the drums too. By the way, Kingdom Come opened up, and they really sucked!

Rocker65.........Its NOT Frosted. ITS D-Frosted. Like Un-Plugged. Its nice and neat. Nothing more. It has tons of nice sounding vocal harmonies like any modern 'boyband' . Personally I hate it.

Above all style and heaviness issues, the main aspect of the album's strength's are it's songs. While they are fairly restrained as far as rockers go, the quality shines through and should see most fans of the band pleased. This album also has a chance to pick up new fans, as I believe their sound is less European then ever and will appeal to a broad spectrum of melodic rock fans.

What's it going to take to get a song like 'What I Like' or 'Human Zoo' onto the US radio airwaves? This disc is worth the price for those first two songs. Impeccably produced again just like the previous albums. Steve Lee has a unique, powerful voice.

A great bunch of songs, in the style of their 2 previous albums, but I miss one thing: the guitar solos!!!! Un gran album, lleno de buenísimos temas, siguiendo la tónica de sus dos anteriores trabajos (los tres primeros son también impresionantes), pero se echa de menos una cosa: algún solo de guitarra, por favor!!!!!

As a former pro musician myself, the thing about this band is they can flat out PLAY, and it's never been more evident. The lead vocals are absolute perfect-pitch throughout, and the riffs are as good as any unplugged recording....by Anyone! I had no idea they could recreate their studio harmonies with such precision. Anyone being hard on this CD is someone with a "Lillian Axe" to grind, who is into heavy, without appreciation for what it sounds like backstage, in the songwriting process. A+

Actually, BRAIN FREEZE! I was talking about "D Frosted" (live), not Human Zoo in my comments. That's what I get for flipping pages too fast. Human Zoo is good, not great...Home Run and G are both superior overall, with much more depth than their debut & early stuff. But if you can locate D Frosted, and appreciate the craft of playing live, get it, put on your headphones, set an icy cooler with a 6-pack next to your comfy chair, turn the lights out, and enjoy....

Wow, they turned the guitars back up again. At least for the opening tune. "What I Like" might be the bands best song ever and "On Top Of The World" is a song you wish Gotthard would write more in the style of. A good comeback after the dissapointment of the last one. 8/10

This is their best album definitely! ALL songs are great, it has the most beautiful ballads they´ve ever written and there are many hard rock songs in it too! Why is it their best? Well, it is original and Steve Lee is totally free from his Coverdale´s style, that is, he´s being himself, which is great! Besides, their criativity is impressive! THIS CD IS A MUST ITEM FOR ANY HARDROCK/AOR FAN! WARNING: IT´S ADDICTIVE! P.S.: THIS GOES FOR THE MORONS ON LINE: IF YOU THOUGHT GOTTHARD WOULD WASTE THEI

Actually i can comment on this album without the knowledge of their back catalogue(which i will rush out and grab a.s.a.p.)This is just a great hard rock album in the same vein as late Bon Jovi! Steve Lee has a great voice, and the band back him up beautifully! Best songs for me are the first four tracks, plus Still I Belong To You!!! Great cd. 8/10.....

Like the previous release, this is excellent! 'Top of the World' is a great hard rocker, 'Still I Belong to You' is a sensational track- a gem of sorts, 'One in a Million' is melodic hard rock perfection and just done so well.'No Tomorrow' is a brilliant stand out, 'Where I Belong' is a high quality rocking gem, and 'What Can I Do' is a beautiful ballad. Killer production, great ballsy sound (Why do so many say these guys are so soft???) and most importantly, very high quality songs. Great band!

Geoff, totally agreed with you,but I would add only one thing:the Gotthard explosion was been with these 2 last releases, more originality, pure class touch in songs/production,they've discovered a new sensational style I think...Before these 2 last"MASTERPIECE"pieces, they were a good kick ass band how there were many others at the star of the 90's.
|
From: Geoff |
Date: January 23, 2005 at 7:07 |
Agree 100 percent with you there z4roxx. I love the debut, but definately feel the latest two albums are their best. The song writing gets more excellent as they progress and the last two are easily the highlights in their collection for me. That's why it annoys me when people say they went soft, because although I also liked the straight ahead hard rock CDs they made, I much prefer the varied pace/style of songs these days. Quality stuff.

There are some fine moments on this album. 'One in a Million' is a great rocker and a standout is 'Still I belong to You'...just love that chorus! Gotthard have gone on to better this with 'Lip Service' but this is worth having as the song writing is of a good quality throughout. Other highlights for me are 'Top of the World' and 'Where I Belong'. 8/10

Really, really good band. Quality all the way...this album is a little too mellow and laid back though. "Top Of The World" and "What I Like" are two MONSTER songs though. If the album held this quality all through it would've been a hard one to beat.
|
From: Pablo UK |
Date: May 16, 2006 at 16:33 |
I agree totally with Figge. "What I Like" is an absolute scorcher of a track. Can't put my finger on what it is about this song. I guess it's one of those tunes that embeds itself in your brain and and just keeps playing itself over and over again. I've only just obtained this album and, although I've spun it a dozen times, I just can't seem to get past tracks 2 & 3. I wish now that I had a copy of "Have A Little Faith" at the the time of our wedding... it would've been our first dance!!!!

A sign that they were returning to form which was fully proven with "Lipservice" & "Domino Effect" after this. Strong songwriting but probably too many ballads, although most are good. "Top of the world" is a great rocker but for me "What I like" is pure class & the stand out track.

Is hard to say that a Gotthard release is bad...for me this one is a goodie but somehow it missed that extra punch that the guys have always delivered in their releases...in here you have some great tunes in the shape of "Human Zoo","Have A Little Faith"(beautiful song),"Top Of The World","Still I Belong To You"(nice),"One In A Million"(great!),"First Time In A Long Time"(nice),"Where I Belong","What Can I Do"(very nice)& "Never Surrender"(catchy japanese B/T)...probably the album has lots of ballads and somehow turned down some listeners but still manages to get us through it quite good, not their most efficient album but a good one to have anyway...86/100
