I used to make fun of these guys, but in retrospect it's a pretty darn good record. Not remarkable, but pretty darn good.

about as weak as rock n roll can be. if you like bands like hanson than pick this up. if you like rock pass on it.

From: Desslar Date: May 18, 2002 at 15:20
Good AOR, but it sure doesn't rock. Imaginator is the only album really worth cranking.

From: Nuno(Hollywood) Date: May 23, 2002 at 23:00
Their best album.Every song is a masterpiece.I love it."Everywhere I Go" n' "Only Time Will Tell" are the great songs on that debut, but the others songs are fine too n' make this record a classic.

This album was sold with a free hair brush and lip stick. I couldn't buy this one because it's more for the girls. But, I will say that the song "More Than Ever" isn't to bad.

From: TOBAH Date: July 18, 2002 at 0:49
I tough these guys were Christina Aguilera's twin sisters but " After The Rain " is a very good song.

This disc have good musics, with many melodies, and is the best disc from Nelson, after the rain, and love and afection have a geret sound Unfortonaly the merketing strategy of nelson generate a bad image about the band, I know Nelson im mp3 because im Brasil this disc don´t play in FM radio, and for me Nelson is Rock, but if you see... the band image is teen...

From: Scandinavia Date: June 22, 2003 at 7:54
Commercial hardrock/AOR is alright but usually the bands from around 90 with a soft touch to their songs don't compromise when it comes to admitting their roots. That's exactly what's wrong with Nelson...Way too commercialized...An album made for the big bucks. Songs like "Love & Affection" and "After The Rain" have what it takes but mostly this album is full of fillers. If Nelson had dropped the dream of cool cash and had stuck to their roots I'm sure there'd been more balls on this effort.

From: Velho Cardoso Date: July 15, 2003 at 21:16
Has anyone been to "Nelson Tintas"? The owner has long blond hair and there are many girls painting in biquinis! It's near my night club.

From: Gar Date: August 15, 2003 at 1:40
Crystal clear production and catchy pop melodies make this one instantly appealing. Under the glossy surface its a little hollow, though. Many of the songs lack any real punch. That said, its still a likable album. Makes for decent background music.

From: fernando Date: August 22, 2003 at 4:00
sorry dudes but this guys smell so commercial that i can smell them from spain. All their covers are like shampoo advertisments. from spain

I have been split between this and Imaginator as which one I like best. In hind site I have to give the nod to this one. Every song is perfect melodic-aor rock. Imaginator is a bit more on the harder side but the songs are about a half step below these in quality.

From: James Date: January 7, 2004 at 22:47
I'm not really sure why these guys get a bad rap. This album is great, clean and fun. Reminds me of the same style as GIANT, but for some reason Giant get's rave reviews. I think this album is better than the Giant debut album but i guess it is all in the eyes of the beholder.

From: Aero Force Mike Date: March 2, 2004 at 19:28
Hmmm, this is REALLY freakin sappy at times. I only bought this cos it was $1 and I was really in a desperate mood to buy *something*. I CAN NOT listen to it as an album, but if I put around 4 nasty sleaze glam albums into the disc changer, as well as this, and hit shuffle, then it's not too bad to hear each song separately between blasts of dirty rock. 'Fill You Up' is my pick for the highlight, a cool rocker... track 2 is cool too. The rest is too sappy for me. Worth a $1 for 2 songs I guess.

From: Elton Braga Date: March 8, 2004 at 15:04
Really good, even with some throwaway, as More Than Ever and I Can Hardly Wait. But Tracy´s Song, Bits And Pieces, Time Will Tell and Interlude make me sweep it under the carpet!

From: Smith Date: March 30, 2004 at 1:15

Shit guys, you really filosofise too much, damn this is one of the greatest records i ever heard, it's a shame that this music is pretty much gone, i'm sick and tired of listening those shitty non-melodic mediocre "alter" bands ala Oasis, Blur, White Stripes and bullshit like that, don't want that anymore, and yes i like sharp-cristal production with mass choruse, ain't the AOR and melodic rock suppose to be like that? Remember music is here to make us happy not to take us down, well this guys m

Anybody got the sheet music to Love and Affection?

From: Geoff Date: August 19, 2004 at 2:35
I don't mind this CD. There are a lot of fillers, but 'Love and affection' is excellent, as is 'After the rain'. 'Tme will tell' is a good ballad and 'Bits and peices' is another fave. Aside from that, not too many other moments I'd like to highlight. Pretty cool AOR album.

From: manos Date: August 31, 2004 at 19:16
Who cares about the image? Music lasts longer and what we have here is good music. Well crafted songs that do not necessarily belong to the hard rock genre but to a more wide pop-rock range. Guitars are played by Brett Garshed, an australian monster of technique with a longtime presence on the fusion jazz-rock scene. His playing here might be a lot more reserved than in his instrumental career, however his puts class in his solos. My favs are: 'after the rain' & 'I can hardly wait'(what a riff!)

From: manos Date: August 31, 2004 at 19:20
Last thing to mention: the video for ''after the rain'' is one of my truly favs!

From: TIM (2) Date: September 7, 2004 at 13:53
Classy stuff, and a bit of a mix between AOR and pop/rock, this has a few really killer songs. The first 3 being the best, but it's all very palatable. "Life" was a more consistent album, but I can't find much to fault here and I've no idea why most of the comments on this are so negative. If you love layers of harmonies, big hooks and melodies, and don't mind the odd cheesy lyrics you'll like Nelson. Plus you get 2 Baywatch chicks to ogle at on the albums front cover...

From: adrenalyn Date: October 28, 2004 at 10:38
One of the greatest albums in our time. Nelson sets its own standards, and the next time is even better. Strings are perfectly tuned and their amplifiers perfectly reverberates around your ears. Infectious melodies!

From: caluche Date: November 23, 2004 at 13:53
un buen trabajo disco reconendado a toda laa gente que le gusta la musica muy blanda

From: Lullä Milanese Date: December 7, 2004 at 9:11
It's just OK, nothing more than this. I think Nelson is one of the most overrated hair metal band ever.

From: Artie Date: December 18, 2004 at 17:17
Lullä, I think your comment is the most overrated on this forum. This album absolutely rocks, with barely any filler. The songs are well-crafted and the production is perfect IMO. All the pretty-boy jokes don't detract from the greatness of this album. So it's commercialized. Big deal. Every other multi-platinum selling album at the time was too. Oh, does anybody remember when Nelson made a cameo appearance on the Dave Letterman Show? The audience went wild it seemed, but that was a while ago.

From: Erik Date: December 27, 2004 at 5:22
Best over release from this band. After ( the rain )it went from bad to worse. Even country songs ! Has never stopped to me amaze me how these guys could drift away so far from what they are good at: writing great songs, with heavy layers, harmonies, depth and melodic driven catchy tunes. For me this album is absolutly way up with the big ones. What a pitty they never found their original awesome form again. Well maybe 2005 will have a nice surprise in store for us from the Nelson boys. One can

From: gener8tr Date: February 1, 2005 at 10:07
Make fun of these guys all you want, but this particual album is VERY good. Sure the rest of their catalog would make better frisbees than CD's, but AFTER THE RAIN was better than 85% of the stuff being released in 1990, for sure!

From: sony Date: February 6, 2005 at 1:12

AWESOME HARD/AOR ALBUM!! Hard Rock ligero con tintes AOR, unos coros increibles y por supuesto unos temazos. Mención aparte las pintas. "Love And Affection" es el mejor tema del disco y de NELSON, gracias a su bella melodía, vocalizaciones, frescura y esa lírica juvenil; "Only Time Will Tell", power ballad bellisima; "After The Rain" pura melodía y frescura a puro AOR; la hermosa intro "Interlude" que se une a "Everywhere I Go" y las efectivas "Bits And Pieces" y "Will You Love Me". RECOMENDADO

Ah y de los 2 bonus escúchen esa fenomenal "Too Many Dreams".. NOSTALGIAAAA!! 8.8/10

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 16, 2009 at 16:35
Well, the Nelson brothers, like lots of brothers, do great harmonies, and can write some catchy pop-rock songs (if indeed they wrote these). But for my taste, this is very, very weak stuff. The title track and "(It's Just) Desire" are probably the hardest (and best) songs, and the hit "Love And Affection" sticks in your head like you wouldn't believe. Aside from that, thsi is just way too tame for me. I gave 'em a 30 for the three songs I mentioned, but I can't remember the last time I actually played this tape (which I got for free back in the day).

Sinsational album for me still today. Absolutely love it. They so nailed it on this album. Perfect balance between melodic rock and pop. Great to see they are going to release a new album on Frontier Records. One can only hope tho they stick to the After the Rain style and concept of songwriting . 95/100

Great expectation did this album when it came out not only for the music but for the visual of the twin brothers!(they even got a commercial or were sponsored by a famous shampoo brand!)anyway talkin' about the album i agree with Erik's comment..good balance between melodic rock and pop..."After The Rain"(the best track 4 sure),"Love And Affection"(their first single)and "Only Time Will Tell"(beautiful ballad) are timeless songs that came out in the beginning of the 90's and surely one of the best albums of that stage...90/100

i read above some strange opinions so i want to say that this is an excellent hair metal release that rocks big time and has nothin to do with aor.i am very tired of hearing the word "aor" for everything!i can see there is too much ignorance around me.anyway "after the rain " is a killer release back in 90 with amazing songwriting and great sound ,excellent backing vocals all over and good musicianship.there is only 1 or 2 fillers, the rest are great songs.i bought it back then and i consider it as a must have for every one.

The Nelson twins must have spent a small fortune on shampoo back in the day, but that pales in comparison to how much must have been spent on the production budget of this immaculately-engineered album. The hooks & harmonies come quick and clean, one after the other, riding on the crest of some addictively infectious pop-rock melodies. What the album lacks, however, is a set of balls, fixing this firmly in the "hair rock lite" category. Some people rain down criticism on this CD, others rain down love & affection (sorry, couldn't resist), but the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

From: the rocker Date: January 4, 2012 at 23:23
I love the cool tough guys on here who say stuff like "it was sold with a hair brush & lipstick", & "this is music for the girls" & "if you like this you don't like rock". Well to each their own I guess, but I like this and I'm not a girl, I don't wear lipstick and I like hard rock and metal. I like good, catchy hard rock/metal/hard AOR, and that's why I like this. This stuff is heavier than JOURNEY, SURVIVOR, & FOREIGNER, and I love those bands just like 95-98% of the people here. If it's because they are pretty boys and better looking than you that is just sad!

This is the first and best by Nelson and they've never been able to top it. Bits & Pieces is just about my favourite here although the obvious ones such as After The Rain, Only Time Will Tell and (Can't Live Without Your) Love And Affection have instant appeal. Other goodies from this one are Desire and Will You Love Me? Slick production plus catchy vocals and heavy drumming equals an instant classic here.

great melodies and great memories about nelson, nostalgic is the word and agree to the AOR Master, love and affection and after the rain are superb.

I ve this record in my collection since 1991 and each time i listen it i feel always the same pleasure.it s an a o r classic among the classix.this album is a brilliant collection of hits.only killer songs ,only hits ,it s very simple and very impressive.excellent production, perfect sound and the nelson s brothers have a very great voice.many harmonies will hooked you immediatly.the japan import have two bonus tracks.track 11 is a very great song typical from nelson.track 12 is an acoustic song wich have no interest (very average).receive today "peace out"(from japan cd).

first impression after two spins of "peace out".big deception.more guitars, more hard but nelson s brothers have loose their inspiration.maybe cause they have cuting their hair(joke).two excellent songs "invicible" and "rockstar".but the rest hum.....for sure i will not sing songs of this record under my shower and this album will be in my auctions in july.the bonus track "idiot"sound modern and it s not terrific.

Lots of heavier bands carp about being lumped in with hair-metal; Nelson are an example of a LIGHTER band being crammed into that drawer. The guys are afforded a lot of ink in the book Nothin' But A Good Time (which I'm sure people are getting sick of a couple of us posting about here). More than they deserve, to my way of thinking. Even among fans of hair-metal, these guys were NOT taken seriously back in the day. I'm sorry to all you revisionist "melodic-rock" lovers (the folks who also like to imagine an alternate universe in which Danger Danger were superstars), but they weren't! And the band pretty much confirms it in the book, whether they meant to or not. Even Trixter got more respect from the rock crowd, and that's saying something. And maybe that's unfair. They were talented guys. But they were a bubblegum pop band, and the fact that they played loud guitars didn't change that.

Maybe it's crass to say a band's audience was mostly teen and tween girls, but everybody knows what that really means: it's a shorthand way of saying your fanbase is very young and very fickle and will outgrow you very soon. And that's something that plagued a fair number of bands, especially in the late going, but none more than Nelson.

I remember when this album came out and Nelson was a huge success in the USA. Bought the album decades later, surprised at how strong it is. Reminds me a lot of REO Speedwagon, Giant. Great production, compared to contemporaries like Alias, Petra, or even Foreigner on Unusual Heat, Nelson sounds very luxurious. Fill you up has some cringy lyrics, but for the rest, this is exquisite melodic heavy rock. 93/100.
