Heavy Harmonies Review
From: Dan Date: March 18, 2003 at 1:12
Wow! We've got a winner here, folks! I was somewhat underwhelmed by the debut CD, but this one takes a quantum leap in quality. There is no filler on this disc. Solid vocal harmonies, powerful guitar riffs, and hooks galore populate this disc. This album is also heavier than their first. At times there is a very Whitesnake feel to the album, but with better vocal harmonies. This album has a very polished feel, and the production is oustanding! The standouts are Son of a Loaded Gun, an abolutely phenomenal ballad, the title track, which is a hellacious rocker, and the hour-long ballad (just kidding) All I Believe In.

I've given this album countless listens now, and there really is no area that I can find fault with. This disc will definitely be in my top 5 AOR/hard rock discs of 1999....and it should be in your top 5 as well!

Rating: 96/100

All I Believe In might be one of the best ballads in all hard aor history.

One of the best all time Aor cd. Great songs, from rockers to ballads. Mike and co. are genius to write this master piece.

From: freddy de keyze Date: January 9, 2003 at 8:57
Fantastic record indeed and worth every penny. And what a production ! One note : this is not AOR but class hard rock ! Nothing wrong with that, but don't confuse this with class AOR à la Signal, Beaucoup, I-Ten, Drive She Said, Foreigner, Van Stephenson etc. etc. Both styles are absolute fantastic !!!!!

From: ARXONTAS Date: January 11, 2003 at 14:11
Thats right. This album fair owns a position on heavy harmonies 25 highly rated albums. What a great band! When other bands turn it into alternative commercial sound some others create albums like this one.Hard Rock skills as best as can it be!...Absolutely No Alternative

Dont be "Slaves Of The New World" Music

From: manos Date: January 15, 2003 at 2:39
I agree with ARXONTAS from Greece, this is one of the best albums ever rated on these website. Mike Slamer is a world class player and he has a unique sound. Keith Slack sings his heart out especially on ''All I Believe In''. Allthough there aren't any weak moment in this album my personal favorites are ''Turn Around'', ''All or Nothin'' and ''Seven Seas''. Excellent. Very sad news today with the news that Steelhouse Lane have almost called it a day, with fighting going on between the singer and the producer. What a damn shame. This is news I have recieved from the head of MTM. Lets hope they get over what ever it is.

From: David Date: February 3, 2003 at 10:28
I almost sheed a tear, I'm not ashamed to say that because their last release was the best Hard Rock release of the last we've heard in the last 5-6 years.

From: Rycheage Date: February 4, 2003 at 0:37
This is one of the finest releases in the last 5 years. Not a bad track in the bunch. "All I Believe In" is an awesome ballad and "The Nightmare Begins" is a hard rocking tune. Better get this one now!!

From: thelostDJ Date: February 4, 2003 at 1:11
couldn't agree more. What an awesome band. One of many great bands I've found on this site. This is my first post....a Seattle boy rockin the Soviets from Kiev in 16 cities... Have a good one.

From: Andy Date: February 26, 2003 at 17:33
A very special album,BUY!

From: GedBarchetta Date: April 8, 2003 at 4:57
I've been a great fan of melodic rock for years and i've never heard a better song than find what you're looking for......just for this song alone was worth it!Fans of rock n roll should not overlook this ultimately classic album........

From: Slaves 2003 Date: April 8, 2003 at 19:54
Why does no one mention Where Are You Now?? Definately the STAND OUT track on the cd. One listen of Where Are You Now and you're hooked. And i read that it was the last song they recorded for the cd and was originally written to be a non-rock song. Slaves of the New World is also a very unique song. Shame Hardline's second didn't sound as good as Steelhouse's...

From: D-RockChick Date: June 7, 2003 at 9:38
Absolutely - 'Where are you now' is definately THE stand out track on this CD, and what a massive leap forward from their debut. Each and every song is memorable. The stand out love songs for me are 'All I Believe in', a fantastic ballad, and 'Seven Seas', which although has got a kick to it, is still a great love song. 'Son of a Loaded Gun', 'Give It All To Me', 'The Nightmare Begins'... the album is just fantastic. And like the debut, this one gets better each time its played. Buy NOW!!

From: JoeDolan Date: June 13, 2003 at 20:00
What did you say? This is a winner? YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!!! I liked these guys before, I just love 'em now. It's good to know every once in a while, that someone who makes the music you like realizes you still like that kind of music. Get it? Now tell it to all the former eighties rock stars who seem to have forgotten it. Actually, Bret Michaels realized it on his latest too ... ---> Let's trade people!!! JoeDolan@charter.net

From: Paolo Date: June 24, 2003 at 9:55
I've bought this Cd 3 days ago after downloading 2 songs from the album.......the incredible ballad ALL I BELIEVE IN and the title track.....this is really a wonderful record comparable to DOUBLE ECLIPSE by Hardline, maybe there's not a song as good as HOT CHERIE which is for me THE PERFECT HARD ROCK SONG but this is my personal opinion of course.....and what about SEVEN SEAS???.....a great example of melodic rock.....maybe the refrain on WHERE ARE YOU NOW could have been better,it doesn't sound

From: freddy de keyze Date: June 24, 2003 at 10:53
Comparable to Hardline ? This is far superior !, in every aspect. Songs, production, musicians etc. A pity this band seems to be lost forever. I've heard there are big troubles between mr.Slack and Mr. Slamer and it seems they don't want to work together never again. Is this rumour true ?

From: JHONNYROCKER Date: June 26, 2003 at 5:27
PAOLO YOU ARE RIGHT HOT CHERIE FROM HARDLINE IS THE ULTIMATE HARD ROCK SONG EVER!!!!!!!!!! (se sei italiano sei un figo)

From: Paolo Date: June 28, 2003 at 11:31

From: raqenrol Date: June 29, 2003 at 10:26
if you have the chance, look for the Japanese edition with one extra track. A+++++++++++

From: Herve Pradeau Date: July 18, 2003 at 7:33
The title of track # 11 makes me think of Freddy De Keyzer

From: Scandinavia Date: July 29, 2003 at 5:51
"Give it All to Me" WOW!!! What a song!

From: Mike Date: July 29, 2003 at 12:48
I don't understand all the hoopla and fuss over this CD? I've given it plenty of listens and its still just average - nothing special, not at all great. Sure, the production is real good, but the songs aren't that memorable. Someone please tell me why this CD is rated so high, please. I can list 100 better CD's, easily.

From: thelostdj Date: July 29, 2003 at 14:30
Mike....that's cool...some people like blonde's, some brunette's. I happen to think this slab is awesome. But I hear ya...personally, I don't understand the hoopla about Pyn Siren...but hey, that's cool. Where would we be without variety...we'd all be stuck with vanilla..

From: Rocker65 Date: July 31, 2003 at 14:20
Yeah, I know It's A stupid but please can someone define what AOR really means. Please...

Picked this one up this week after reading all the positive reviews here, and all I can say is WOW! This is a SUPERB cd, with absolutely NO filler. This just goes to illustrate that a band doesn't have to be plastered all over the tv or the internet to be incredible. Awesome disc here....10/10.

From: rockinmyassoff Date: August 23, 2003 at 23:44
An absolute classic...gets better with every listen. If you can listen to "Turn Around" and not sing along with the chorus then you are a strong individual. Not a bad song on this disc. A must for any melodic rock collection.

From: Scandinavia Date: August 24, 2003 at 6:01
Fanfuckintastic!!! Top production, top compositions, top musicianship, top everything! Great, great, great!!! Especially when you check out the year of release...

From: AOR freaky Date: December 1, 2003 at 5:45
This is BRILLIANT, well-produced melodic hardrock ! Better you won't hear it ! A MUST Have ! A shame their will be no third record ! But this is GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: xavieskay Date: December 26, 2003 at 18:30

From: Larry Date: February 16, 2004 at 3:35
What's the story on these guys? Is there going to be another SL CD? It's been going on almost 5 years and nothing. Maybe Mike Slamer and the others are busy on other projects, but it sure would be great if they did get back together again. Metallic Blue & Slaves Of The New World are excellent albums and I want more!!!

From: AOR freaky Date: February 16, 2004 at 5:15
There will be no other Steelhouse Lane record ! The guys can't see each other no longer ! Difficulties all the way ! A pity !

From: BORDER RAT Date: April 23, 2004 at 9:21
Excellent melodic hard rock of the highest order. It is just a shame that there will be no more but it is better to go out in a high point than a low one.One of my all time favourite bands and that will never change.

From: KS Date: May 11, 2004 at 1:26
I am honored that you all like the S.H.L. CD's so much. A fan emailed me with this link and said it would be nice if I responded to your questions regarding S.H.L.'s demise since I have been away from the scene for a while now. Well, I don't know where this MTM conspiracy theory came from, but Mike and myself are not at war or fighting or whatever those liars had to say. The truth is that MTM was too cheap to fork out what we were worth, so we just called it a day. Thanks for listening!

From: Rockhead Date: May 11, 2004 at 7:20
Is there anymore material laying around?

From: AOR freaky Date: May 12, 2004 at 4:21
Nice to hear from you, Keith ! And also nice to hear that you and Mike are still good friends ! Crappy from MTM to say it otherwise ! I support the question from Rockhead : is there other material lying around and why call it a day ? ! If you read the comments here, you know that a lot of people think that SL are/were a fantastic band ! And we want you back ! I think there are a lot of independend labels that wanna sign you, maybe even bigger labels ! Come back, please !

From: AlmirfromBrazil Date: May 16, 2004 at 12:04
Keith, nice to see that you're around. Both albuns from SHL are fantastic (and believe me, I heard a lot during my 44 years)and I also think that there's a lot a great labels that would receive you guys with open arms(and pockets). Is there anything to do with the fact that Mike is tie to MTM because of Seventh Key project?

From: AlmirfromBrazil Date: May 16, 2004 at 12:14
Wath stupid I am...Seventh Key's label is Frontiers. Forget about that question, but what stop you guys to ckeck with another label, anyway?

From: KS Date: May 19, 2004 at 13:16
If it were only that easy. To this day, I haven't seen a dime from either of the CD's sales in Europe, only Japanese radio spins. That's why I won't be signing with any European labels. I am doing different material now anyway. The SL stuff is great for what it was, but we all must grow as musicians. I have grown in different directions and have many new projects now both singing and drumming. You can check one of them out at: www.secrettheory.net. All the best guys, K

From: rocketron Date: June 16, 2004 at 8:05
When you talk of power ballads "All I Believe In" has to be one of the all-time greatest.Totally awesome !!

From: K.K. Poland Date: August 4, 2004 at 4:38
yeah, I totally agree with you rocketron, All I Believe In is superfantastic, very strong, amazing, but what about superfantastic track called Seven Seas? this one is brilliant!!

From: Wotty Date: September 2, 2004 at 6:50
Back to business,Metallic Blue yesterday, this today.Does it get any better???? Well not when you hear CDs like this....

From: Geoff Date: September 2, 2004 at 23:23
Do I call this the best album of all time, or the previous mentioned Treat release. To be honest, I think this might just take the title. Musically, it is a monster. The songs are perfect, except the title track, but I love the rest. 'Seven seas' is possibly my fave melodic hard rock song ever, 'All I believe in' never fails to chill and is simply a marvel, 'Turn around'... oh, why bother? They're all sensational! Amazing album!!! 9.9/10

From: Wotty Date: September 3, 2004 at 9:06
Hi Geoff.I know you rarely answer back, but this is a bit weird,we are starting to agree on a few albums and Tommy Denander is nowhere in sight.SPOOKY....p.s.It probably wont last because you comment on CDs I cant even spell let alone heard. But its a laugh innit.....

From: The Dolphin Date: October 16, 2004 at 5:33
Paolo hai ragione!Potenza e melodia allo stesso tempo...powerful and melodic at the same time, great production and great guitarwork."All I believe in" is a beautiful ballad.

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: February 4, 2005 at 22:29
EL MEJOR DE ELLOS CON EL GRAN MIKE SLAMER(STEETS-WALL OF SILENCE), PERSONALMENTE NO UNA JOYA COMO MUCHOS CALIFICAN PERO SI UN BUEN ALBUM, EN CORTES COMO Turn Around, The Nightmare Begins(CLASICO DE LOS STREETS), Into Deep, Seven Seas Y Find What We're Lookin'For LOS 5 MEJORES TEMAS DEL ALBUM PARA MI, HACEN UN BUEN TRABAJO, RECOMENDADO PARA TODOS LOS AMANTES DE HARD-ROCK MELODICO.

From: ROCKER Date: February 7, 2005 at 8:01

Just one reason to have it : All I Believe In !!

From: ace66 Date: February 22, 2005 at 7:33
Is this better than the first one ?I wonder.

From: AOR freaky Date: February 22, 2005 at 11:59
Ace66 : this one is three classes better than the debut and that means that we're talking about a BRILLIANT hardrock album ! Real class release !!!, even for an AOR/pomp fan like me !

From: ace66 Date: February 23, 2005 at 5:51
Thanks Aor Freaky,I'll check it out.

From: z4roxx Date: February 23, 2005 at 21:13
IMO it's 5 times better even because there aren't covers here...Great band,if you like Wall of Silence that's a must indeed...

From: Malebolgia Date: July 14, 2005 at 11:15
Well, with all the comments on here about this CD I finally bought it. To be honest I am very disappointed...in myself. I should have bought this CD when it first came out. 'Slaves of the New World' is an absolutely phenominal album. Excluding the title track, this album is flawless. From the first track 'Give It All To Me' which will rock you senceless to the hyper mega power ballad 'All I Believe In' this album will leave you speechless. Don't think twice, buy this CD. My review: 9/10.

From: Lovedrive Date: January 6, 2006 at 7:54
VAYA DESCUBRIMIENTO!!

From: hsf Date: March 12, 2006 at 12:54
I can't believe I haven't commented on this one yet. What an unbelievable album! I was totally blown away by this disc. Like mentioned before, there is no filler on this. All songs are great. I absolutely loved 'Son Of A Loaded Gun' and thought it was WAY better than the Eyes version of the song. 'All I Believe' is a beautiful and epic ballad. 'Seven Seas' was a great song, but, my second favorite track on the disc was 'The Nightmare Begins'. Harder, darker, and still melodic. 10/10

From: juan carlos Date: March 19, 2006 at 13:20

From: JF Date: March 27, 2006 at 19:34
Altamente recomendado

RAFO PHOENIX, PERDONA QUE TE DIGA, PERO ESTE DISCAZO LE DA 20.000 VUELTAS AL PRIMERO DE STRANGEWAYS, QUE SE HACE EMPALAGOSO HASTA EL HASTÍO. ESTE ES UN SUPERDISCAZO DE HARD-MELÓDICO. IMPRESIONANTE.

From: DANTE Date: July 20, 2006 at 3:26

great cover on streets "the nightmare begins" from their sec album crimes in mind

From: Lennie Date: September 20, 2006 at 9:14
Dusted this baby down recently and gave it a fresh spin - what an immense album this is! Lots of comments here about the epic ballad - a bit too sugary for me, but the rest of the album is melodic rock bliss. As always, Slamer's playing is sublime throughout. Slack's vocal is awesome. The killer part of this album is the final 3 tracks - all include fantastic chorus/solos. The production is big enough to carry the songs too. At least a 9.5/10. Must have release IMHO.

From: Carlos A. Date: December 8, 2006 at 12:25

From: juan carlos Date: July 29, 2007 at 15:57
I'll just have to fall in line with all the praise already give here. Fantastic album! This is one of those extremely overlooked gem's of melodic rock that the big masses lose out on due to the change of the music climate. There are many people that still listens to/loves this kind of music that's never even heard of these guys. What a pity! It doesn't get better than this when it comes to melodic (hard) rock. The production is very slick, almost to the point of sterile, but is suits the songs.

This is an outstanding album !! It epotimomizes what a melodic metal album should be. Not a bad tune on it. It has a great mix of killer ballads and great hard rockin tunes. Slamer jams and Slack vocals are sweet. This is a must have disc!! 97/100

I remember Mike from Streets I right away fell in love with Hit n run riff which I consider one of the best rock riffs EVER I still have it as my mobile ringtone .This album is just great mainly because of Slamer's astonoshing axework He just shreds like a bionic GET it and you will love it!

Pure MODERN Aor. I did not even think that Aor shortly before 2000 or after can be so amazing! It seems to me that "Seven Seas" is one of best tracks here( I haven't listened to the whole album yet). It reminds me of sth but anyway... GREAT JOB!

Solid album with a very good singer & frontman(Keith Slack)...best tracks: "Give It All To Me" excellent starter,"Son Of A Loaded Gun" great solid one,"Turn Around" is a semi smooth ballad, nice indeed but if you want a big ballad then "All I Believe In" is the one you need,a wonderful song,"Into Deep" & "The Nightmare Begins" are amazing songs and the one i liked the most mainly because its AOR flavour was "Seven Seas"...a good choice if you pick this up!.90/100

This is a really outstanding record of that year. For me, perhaps the best one. I can find almost everything I love about rock music. From melodic aor (Foreigner alike) to arena heavy rock (Warrant alike). And between I can meet Nelson, Europe, Harem Scarem... influences. Strong melodies, perfect harmonies... really well-built songs, eg everytime I can hear "Son of a loaded gun" I have gooseflesh and that's for me one of important marks of quality. 90/100.
