For fans of AOR, this is a must-have CD from the keyboardist from Thin Lizzy. It gives the listener a more mellow Bon Jovi feel. Very keyboard drive rock.

From: CESAR Date: February 21, 2002 at 13:21
THE BEST AOR ALBUMS IN THE LAST YEARS.GENIAL.

From: Roxas Date: April 6, 2002 at 2:51
back to their aor roots, magical melodies combined with Darrens hainting voice 10/10

From: Jordi Date: May 8, 2002 at 1:21
Calm before the Storm es un temazo increible. A'n recuerdo la primera vez que le dej' escuchar a mi Madre Dare. Me dijo textualmente sobre esta canci'n: 'Se me encoge el estomago. Me hace una cosa rara. Esta m'sica me llega al coraz'n...'

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: July 18, 2002 at 4:08
Espero no ofender pero este disco es ideal para la gente que le cueste quedarse dormida,al tercer tema te quedas frito.

From: david Date: August 16, 2002 at 10:29
creo que 9 champions a 1 est' un poco distra'da, algo dispersa, es decir, no s' c'mo explicarlo. Creo que tanto CBTS, como Belief no son discos para dormir, sino para so'ar...

From: Giacomo Date: October 30, 2002 at 12:38
Credo che questo sia uno dei migliori dischi di Melodic-ock /Aor che siano stati mai prodotti. I think that this one is one of the best Melodic-rock / Aor cd ever done. Great, Dare! Great, Darren!

From: duncan idaho Date: January 18, 2003 at 20:09
gracias darren por hacernos so'ar, por darnos tus melodias y regalarnos a nuestros oidos el mejor sonido que podemos escuchar en este mundo consumido por lo chabacano y comercial.

From: John Date: February 5, 2003 at 0:34
I love this band...but there's a couple of tunes here that make m...ZZZZzzzzzz JK

From: Nae Neck Date: May 16, 2003 at 21:03
If you have any Dare albums or are lucky to have them all, you will understand this, why have they not received the recognition they truly deserve, and they don't get any air play at all in the UK yet they seem to have this talent of turning out, stand out albums, can't wait for the release of their new album Beneath The Shinning Water should be released sometime in the summer 2003, as for this album go get it you will not be dissapointed.

From: aorman uk Date: May 17, 2003 at 19:10
I agree with blueyonder.I have all their albums and their rare/unreleased material Word is Dare`s new album Beneath The Shinning Water is a mixture of all their previous albums.Dare could do with being a litle bit heavier with some lead guitar though, great band with Fm a close second

From: Legend Date: November 23, 2003 at 15:13
Sin duda uno de los mejores discos de AOR de los '90. La producci'n est' a la altura de las canciones y las melodias increibles. Muy bueno. One of the best AOR albums of the 90's.

From: Gaz Date: December 22, 2003 at 16:18
Not as amazing as the early nineties attempts, and perhaps the Guitars are slightly less imaginative without the creativity of Vinny Burns, but this is a great album none the less that is truly worthy of the praise it gets. The best version of this album is the very rare LEGEND RECORDS version, which has a fantastic bonus track called Cold Wind Will Blow. This is a worthy listen with great tracks like Walk On The Water, Someday, and Rescue Me. 8 out of 10.

From: Proman1 Date: March 23, 2004 at 4:32
weak limpdick attempt @ rock 'n roll, the previous one was 10,000 times better, (my opinion only) as I have no authority on this kinda stuff & lean towards the harder guitar sound with lotsa freakin' shredding lead guitar..

From: AOR freaky Date: March 23, 2004 at 8:22
I agree Proman1, this is way too soft ! I'm a pure AOR fan, but it may not be too poppy ! This is ! The debut album from Dare is by far the best !, but I don't think you'll like it, not much shredding lead guitar. Dare is an AOR act, not a hardrock band !

From: Kristian Date: May 30, 2004 at 20:52
Great Album - A must have Walk on the Water is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard... There is another version of it from 1991, dunno if it's ever been released.

From: Enrico Date: June 15, 2004 at 19:04
'Walk on water' 1991 version has been released as a B-side on one of the singles taken from 'Blood from Stone' (I think the single was 'Real love' but I don't remember). It was a rockier, simpler version. BTW, this album is one of All-time Top 10, should I say more ?

From: Lisa Date: October 23, 2004 at 0:20
I absolutely Love DARE! I was introduced to them by afriend from England, he'd played many songs to me over the phone and I loved them from the start, the songs have so much meaning and touch my heart like no other music has, the best song in my opinion on this album is 'Still in love with you' omgggggggggg so alluring. I can't wait till my baby comes back over he'll have a surprise over candle lit dinner

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: February 3, 2005 at 0:31
Way too soft, missing the leading keyboards placed just as a background. Nothing to do with the first one. Anyway great vocals(Darren is amazing) but overall a bit boring with lots of acustic guitars not always suitables for aor acts. If you want to try something else apart of the Classic 'Out of the Silence' then try the second one, indeed tougher but not boring. Just for Dare completists, the essential is the first one.

From: Erik Date: February 3, 2005 at 6:45
Too soft is the keyword here. If you have trouble at night falling alsleep just put on this record and Mr Sandman will enter your dreams in seconds.

From: AOR freaky Date: February 3, 2005 at 12:56
Way too calm and soft indeed !

From: Ton Date: February 10, 2005 at 13:44
Too soft. What a nonsense. Dare has a unique sound. That's what Dare wanted he told me once after a concert. Even this isn't the best one in my opinion. It's still top. I can't get enough (not Bad Comapny) but from the best atmospheric rockband/aor!! More, more more to come with the live allbum Power of nature. I can't wait till april.

From: Geoff Date: March 3, 2005 at 2:24
This is really quite a nice release. Not as good as the first two, but it's very classy and many songs are very nice. Good solid AOR.

From: iraklis Date: March 16, 2005 at 3:05
the best album of all times.truly genius melodic rock.

From: Wachen Date: March 22, 2005 at 10:31
Darren Wharton is the king! If not as good as the debut, this album is a melodic masterpiece!

From: R.S.-Rocks Date: May 5, 2005 at 17:30
I love this album. Fantastic songs from start to finish. This is perfect for driving with your car on a highway late at night.

From: Blaze Date: May 15, 2005 at 12:36
I would have never thought that they could make better than Blood From Stone.. but they could... Simply beautiful songs! Dare to buy it!

From: SCANDI Date: April 21, 2006 at 14:20
A lot of comments here I agree with. It's such atmospheric & unique, I think it's the record I will still play in 40 years. Well, then I'm 69. And, of course, the music is nice to have in backround, e.g. to fall asleep to. I tried this, be sure of that The best comparation to their sound (if possible) is not softer Bon Jovi though, but a mixture between Strangeways & the guitar skills of Gary Moore, with the magical power of Dreamtide. In my opinion very close to their debut. 8,6/10

From: SCANDI Date: April 21, 2006 at 14:26
Just an '8,6' 'cos I partly agree that the album can get boring, at least with the less good songs. My favourite is 'Walk on the water' with its mythtical sound but still exciting melody which some other are lacking of. One of the few essential albums of the later-90s & 00s by any costs

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 7, 2007 at 15:31
I dunno what happened here with Darren and C.o. but this album is centuries away from their debut and miles away from their second.New sound of that moment?,it was too far soft with little remiscense of aor in here????( i supposed this was the target of the band when they first started, -AOR-)and the direction of the second album was still good but 'Calm before the storm' is far an average album with all my respect.5/10,sorry guys...

From: DOUG Date: January 9, 2008 at 12:27
VERY GOOD EMOTIONAL CD,HIS VOICE IS VERY SMOOTH AND IS AN ABSOLUT MUST FOR EVERY H/R FUN.ENJOY!!!!!

From: juan carlos Date: October 23, 2008 at 22:57
Sorry to disagree with rick but this album is really Awesome, of course nothing to do with their "OOTS" album but this one is really stunning, call it Celtic, Atmospheric AOR or whatever.. "Walk on the Water" "Calm Before the Storm" "Silence of Your Head" "Crown of Thorns" and "Still in Love With You"(i love Thin Lizzy and this cover is made with passion by Darren & Co.). I have the Japanese CD with one bonus called "Run To Me" (Beautiful song! one of my favorite Dare Songs indeed). 9.4/10

From: DanDare Date: October 23, 2010 at 9:02
Agreat comeback from Darren and the boys. 'Walk on the Water', 'Calm Before the Storm' and 'Still in Love With You' are personal favourites, but the whole album is packed full of fluffy pinkness and is very melodic. Sound.

From: Krister Date: November 26, 2010 at 19:48
I notice some have the nerve to compare these guys with bloody Bon Jovi. How DARE you?? Not even close. Must be one of the best albums EVER created.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 10, 2011 at 20:56
Mellow and relaxed this is what this album is about..as i stated in my comment way back in 2007 this is was like a transition album...it was kinda hard to accept it at the moment...maybe the word i used(average)and my rating(50/100) was hard but that was my appreciation at that moment..nowadays after some new spins i could consider this a decent effort with some good songs..."Walk On The Water"(solid excellent soft song even though is quite risky to start an album with a softie, not typical of Dare),"Some Day","Rescue Me"(AORish and nice),"Rising Sun" & "Deliverance"(this one with a very nice lyric)...listenable songs 4 sure, pleasant ones if you want me 2 be honest...Dare...a great band now and always even though with albums like this...my new rate,87/100

From: juan carlos Date: January 11, 2011 at 20:58
If you love this album as much as i love; then, you have to get their other albums: "Belief" "Beneath The shining Water" "Arc of the Dawn" as soon as possible!! I looove this kind of stuff, but DARE does it really Great! 94/100

From: Roxas Date: October 7, 2022 at 14:07
How can the sings still be this good, just gave it another spin. Cold Wind Will Blow - what a bonus track. I've just seen a comment I've made from 2002...What...how. That's 20 years.
