This is ultra-rare. I managed to get my friend to get it off Napster before it went tits-up, but get it if you can. A great power-rock album before they went back to the more melodic stuff.

From: Kim Date: September 7, 2001 at 15:01
This is a super release.

From: Lorenz Date: October 21, 2001 at 11:11
All I can say is that this is one of the best CDs ever released! Great melodies and a great singer.

From: T-BONE Date: November 19, 2001 at 14:05
One word would describe this cd....Incredible!!!

From: Juan Date: November 29, 2001 at 6:30
Estilo totalmente diferente al Out Of the Silence, pero a una altura increible, perfectamente comparable a Hardline o Giant!!!

From: Ace Carbo Date: February 22, 2002 at 23:16
This disc is absolutely brilliant! Lots of power and melody make this an absolute must have! I give this cd a 10! Go out and find it, it's worth every penny that you pay for it!!!

From: west of sunset Date: March 9, 2002 at 16:20
'out of the silence' me parece uno de los mejores cds de AOR, pero 'blood from stone' es un cd descomunal sobre todo las 3 primeras canciones las dos baladas y 'cry wolf'.Es un cd muy raro y por suerte lo pude conseguir bastante barato.Seg'n Darren Wharton este disco fue un error, ojala yo tuviera errores como este.10 sobre 10 de puro hard heavy mel'dico y buena portada.

From: Roxas Date: April 6, 2002 at 2:45
Darren responds to the critics and goes heavy rock. One of the greatest rock albums ever 10/10...what else did we expect?

From: Reno Date: May 3, 2002 at 0:45
Huge sound and production, More hard rock than the other cd's they did. All the songs are great...no bad apples here

From: Mutt Wannabe Date: July 10, 2002 at 15:48
I got this cd from a friend and had no idea who they were. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a great cd from begining to end. No filler here. Great Backing Vocals and good melodies. Cd reminds me of another great album, Aldo Novas Blood On The Bricks.

From: Large1 Date: July 22, 2002 at 8:54
Great Album, great tracks, if I am being ultra critical then the vocals are a bit on the weak side and the production could be better. If you like this album you'll love Out Of The Silence.

From: david Date: August 16, 2002 at 10:33

From: MALLORCAS ROCK Date: August 31, 2002 at 17:26
Buenisimo.

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: September 1, 2002 at 5:10

From: yo mismo Date: October 30, 2002 at 4:20
pues komo ya han komentado por aki...es totalmente diferente al out of the silent, pero es la gran polla el Blood from the stone!!!! Un gran disko de Hard Melodiko!!!

From: ted Date: November 11, 2002 at 11:15

From: ARXONTAS Date: January 6, 2003 at 15:42
What can we say about a record like this one? Just two words, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Thank god i dont see any comments from the 'experts' here...Absolutely No Alternative

From: Trick Taylor Date: February 12, 2003 at 22:44
How can you say something bad about a band with a guy named NIGEL CLUTTERBUCK? T-Bone turned me on to this. At first I thought 'trying way to hard, over-produced', but a few more listens and I'm beginning to see what you guys rave about. As you know (OBNOXIOUS)I lean more towards metal than AOR, but this stuff is a fun way to pass the day at work. Absolutely No Arxontas!

From: Rich Date: March 6, 2003 at 9:18
Superb melodic rock album! Its a pitty that the band dislike this release so much, as it is easily the best album of their career. Get it if you can!

From: MelodicBoy Date: March 20, 2003 at 3:01
Got this a while back on Ebay, and the raves are all accurate. Way harder than the other Dare albums, very solid from beginning to end. Vinny Burns plays guitar on the first two Dare CDs, later went on to play in TEN. Darren decided to turn up the guitars on this one, and the results kick an amazing amount of ass. As Nigel Tufnel would say,'This one goes to 11. It's one louder!' Highly recommended.

Este 'lbum si que es una delicia. Aut'ntico rock mel'dico siendo destacable el segundo corte 'We don't need a reason'...impresionante. A must.

If you like your sounds beefy and in your face welcome to Dare this has lizzy all over it,if Phil was alive and heard this he would stand aside take a bow and say what a fucking album Darren this has everything that draws you in spits you out jub jubs often wonder if Darren and Dare will ever go and do another stand out like this I can only wait with bated breath take a bow Mister Wharton this is class do not think this is like Out of the Silence you are about to be wakened with some kick ass.

The vocals on 'Surrender' sound like an army charging straight ahead. Great hard rock album.

From: RR-Finland Date: September 1, 2003 at 15:21
Really good record. Other Dare cd's I don't have, but while I was reading your comments of those, I'm seriously thinking to do something about it! About 'Blood From Stone', this is what hard rock should always be. Great and catchy stuff indeed! Like I have previously said: Any band who sings about never surrending, can't be bad!

From: pablo Date: September 6, 2003 at 9:08

This is an amazing album...The melodies are outstanding and varied from beginning to end. You won't get disappointed here...Harder than their debut...

From: tomcat Date: October 25, 2003 at 10:52
'live to fight another day' rocks bigtime

From: Legend Date: November 23, 2003 at 14:59
Increibles.

From: Pearcy2 Date: December 17, 2003 at 9:04
one of the best cd's I've heard so far in my life! (ps: I heard a lot of cd's!)

From: yakkuli Date: December 17, 2003 at 12:08
absolutely superb! but i cant find the lyrics, does anyone have them

From: Great Dane Date: December 17, 2003 at 17:06
Yakkuli, I could scan the cover for you, but the cover is so dark, and I dont think you will get any fun out of it. I have the original, but I think it will all turn out gray/black.

From: AOR freaky Date: December 18, 2003 at 5:22
I'm surprised that a lot of people love this CD that much ! Even the guys of Dare know they made a terrible mistake to release this hard-edged album after their classic debut ! It was practically the end of their career (luckely, there back on track now) at that moment, by total lack of success ! Not that this is bad, certainly not, but not great too ! It's a standard hardrock release, without the class of their great AOR debut !

From: robert Date: December 19, 2003 at 13:03

From: Gaz Date: December 22, 2003 at 16:14
Another great Dare album. Perhaps not quite as good as the standards set by the ridiculously good debut, but none the less a listen that you will never tire of.

From: Trick Taylor Date: December 28, 2003 at 2:13
Found a cheap cassette copy so I now have the whole experience. My first thought is HOLY GANG VOCAL BATMAN! No way in the world they can reproduce that live. There are some great moments, but I crave more sleezy honesty than this can provide. Derivitive of Whitesnake in places (Love Aint No Stranger=Cry Wolf), Bon Jovi in others. I still choose Love/Hate or Smashed Gladys, but it is fun to have.

From: Jordi Date: December 29, 2003 at 6:43
A mi me falla la producci'n. O el equipo de m'sica!! A vosotros no? Lo otro est' muy bien. M'sica, coros, ...

From: Proman1 Date: March 23, 2004 at 4:45
'Awesome' a really great rock album, this is where 'Dare' should have remained, not pissing around the wimpy side of rock, ultimately that is what killed them off!! Darren please come back to rock 'n roll as you have an incredible voice and rock needs you, (especially now with this grunge/alternative garbage around)

From: Dave Stamos Date: April 20, 2004 at 8:26
Discazo!! Produce Keith Olsen, mis highlights: Surrender y Real love

From: T-Bone Date: May 10, 2004 at 6:29
What happened to these guys? They were rockin hard with this release and then went straight downhill. I just heard some previews of their upcoming release Beneath The Shining Waters and I was bored to tears. Extremely mellow Simon & Garfunkel sounding shit.

From: Great Dane Date: May 10, 2004 at 14:45
Lol. Yeah its sad isnt it T. Many bands sucks and this is just another band who is stuck in '''nowhereland''' :-(

From: Enrico Date: May 17, 2004 at 19:48
Different from all other Dare albums (and definitely not my favorite, even Darren Wharton wrote this was kind of a mistake), but if you are looking for crunching guitar riffs, big sounds and choruses check out tracks like 'Wings of fire' and 'We don't need a reason', great ones! While trying to do something different, and probably something they would never do right now, Dare have proved they could have rocked hard...harder than most of other bands!

From: KIP Date: August 17, 2004 at 5:09
Not a bad one... BUT!!!! I'd like to forget those stealings from Gary Moore's Over The Hills And Far Away on 'We Dont Need A Reason'. A typical British rock record.

From: TIM (2) Date: August 17, 2004 at 6:21
I would rate 'Out of the Silence' as THE ultimate Brit AOR album, but this was always a big disappointment to me, as not only did they ditch the winning AOR formula for a standard hard rock sound, but they also brought in a big-budget producer and gave him absolutely no budget. The result is a 'muddy' sound which made this sound like one big demo. 'Wings of Fire' is killer, 'Breakout' is pretty catchy, and the Jap bonus 'Walk on the Water' is good, the rest about average. 7/10.

From: Geoff Date: August 17, 2004 at 20:43
I actually prefer this wonderful slab of melodic hard rock to the debut. Though I'm not saying it's the better album, I personally prefer it. Just big, ballsy hard rock with huge riffs, huge choruses and huge ballads too. I love the massive hard rocking sound of the whole affair and can enjoy each song, one after the other.

From: Wotty Date: August 17, 2004 at 20:59
Geoff,I am in agreement with you 1000n this DARE debate, and have told Tim[2] this as well.

Outstanding album! Dare best IMHO

From: Dreamaholic Date: October 27, 2004 at 6:36
Forked over the money for this based on some of the reviews above...man this CD kicks ass! You gotta love Vinnie Burns! Wild Heart is one of the best damn songs I've ever heard, I crank it up LOUD over and over! I walked around for days singing this song after I first heard it, it's that good! I also like Wings of Fire, We Don't Need a Reason, Surrender, and Cry Wolf. We Don't Need a Reason sounds like the inspiration for 'Red' off of Ten's Spellbound CD.

From: WhiteLion Date: November 5, 2004 at 20:53
not suprise by TIM comment. Awsome cd , Get it if you can. I just think he should listen to country music haha 9/10 folks

From: Cee Date: November 23, 2004 at 7:21
I have all 5 albums of this band but i think blood from stone is the worst one, because Darren's voice just doesn't fit such powerful rock and it seems that he just screams to be heard. His voice just fits better to the other four albums which i find superb!

Mistake? What are you talking about? This is THE best Dare album...The only REAL hard rock album. Their debut was girlish and silly.

From: Tom Bombadil Date: December 23, 2004 at 5:37
Best hard rocker ever! this cd is IT if your looking for good sinign, lyrics, melodis, playing all in one, here it is!

From: Enrico Date: January 23, 2005 at 19:55
'Mistake' was the word used by Darren in an old interview...not mine! Don't get me wrong, I like these one also, but it's not as wonderful as the first one (or 'Calm before the storm'). Well, if you find the first Dare album 'girlish' and 'silly' then we definitely have different opinions about music, as I think the first one is a real adult and mature album (much more than this one).

From: z4roxx Date: January 23, 2005 at 20:07
Oh Dare, what a f****g awesome band!!Their debut is one of the best aor cd and this onene of the best hard rock works as ever,IMO.Not many bands are able to change completely style and get a marvellous result as this...I think songs as'Surrender','breakout'ect..are awesome and blow away everyone...Maybe that's the release that Def Leppard dream to do I think!!10/10!(and the debut is another 10/10!).

From: z4roxx Date: January 23, 2005 at 21:17
I think band's members often say this..bullshits!I remember what Mark reale of Riot sayed about their'privilege of power'cd(mistake, worst cd ever ect),in effect that was their best cd,IMO!I think these leaders are usually like disappoin'some cd's of their discography to create more curiosity around it or so...but those are always:POINTS OF VU!Sorry but the only thing I don't understand is what you Enrico can prefer'calm before the storm'to this one.IMO'calm b.t.s.'by far their worst release...

From: Date: February 11, 2005 at 13:52
best dare cd ever , trust me ... Out of the Silence is good , this one is very good ....the rest buy it at your own risk , but i dont like their following albuns

From: Enrico Date: February 16, 2005 at 16:55
z4roxx, I think it's just points of view as you said, in my opinion 'Calm...' is the perfect blend of the 'new' and 'old' Dare sound. Still give me chills when I hear it, while 'Blood from Stone'...only gives me chills on a couple of tracks! BTW: I love 'Privilege of Power' (even if I prefer 'Fire Down Under', 'Thundersteel' or 'Inishmore'). But we are still talking about great bands and great music, the rest is just our opinions.

From: z4roxx Date: February 17, 2005 at 13:37
Enrico,ok that's right,just points of view anyway...but I refered to Darren last interview where he sayed that their first 2 cd's were their worst works,S H A M E!!!!

From: TIM (2) Date: February 24, 2005 at 14:54
Go to Musicbuymail.com to get a reasonably priced re-mastered copy of this. Alternatively you could save your money and buy a decent album instead. (Only kidding Wotty/Geoff etc)

From: Enrico Date: February 24, 2005 at 15:24
z4roxx, where can I find that interview ? As you already know BFS is not my favorite but the first Dare is a killer...how could Darren have said these things ? I hope he was kidding.

From: z4roxx Date: February 24, 2005 at 19:30
Enrico,my cousin told me about this interview,I think he bought one of the last'Flash','Metal Shock'or'Metal Hammer'fanzine...I'll try to ask him again this thing...

From: BCASARIN(MEX) Date: March 13, 2005 at 20:19

From: Wachen Date: March 22, 2005 at 10:34
If no-one has noticed, this one has just been re-relased! An album with more guitardriven hardrock songs, the hardest album Dare ever recorded. I really like it, but the debut is better, but Darren Wharton sings amazing, especially on 'Wings of fire', his wail in the beginning, GREAT! Buy!

From: Nick C Date: April 7, 2005 at 11:05
I remember when this came out and all the negative reviews it received put me off buying it even though I thought Out of the Silence was excellent. Eventually towards the end of the 90's I grabbed the CD and what a surprise it's pretty fantastic. A lot less AOR orientated than the debut and probably not as strong (depending what u want I suppose) but there are some really good songs on here. Well worth getting if youre into Dare or even if youre not!

From: Date: April 24, 2005 at 22:42
why teh didn t KEEP doing this style!!!!!!!?????? they could be the best group far away,.!!! exellent album from argentina martin

From: R.S.-Rocks Date: May 5, 2005 at 17:36
One hell of a rocker. This one smokes. All other Dare CD's based on feelings- this one on power. And I like it. I own the 11 track japanese version including 'Walk on the water' as an extra track. Buy or die!!

From: swriter Date: June 4, 2005 at 17:51
the way I feel about this is the same way I feel about HScarem's first and second releases, the first is an aor classic and the second aslo a classic but much heavier. Man, this is a great hard rock album, I heard this before I heard the debut, great songs include Wings, Reason, Surrender, Cry, and BREAKOUT!!!!! Do not go without this one!!!

From: SCANDI Date: August 15, 2005 at 10:54
WoWWW.. What a GREAT album!! I'm afraid all I can say is WoWWW.. The choruses are VERY near to BON JOVI in Desmond Child era or DEF LEPPARD. As is the sound, very much DEF LEP. I hear even DREAM POLICE. The song structure is from heavy to MR/AOR so I guess everyone will be pleased with this album. No matter if HELLOWEEN or STRANGEWAYS fan. One song (i think CRY WOLF) reminds even of QUEEN. My fave tracks are the BON JOVI like SURRENDER, LIVE TO.. & CRY WOLF. However, there's really NO fillers

From: SCANDI Date: August 15, 2005 at 14:16
Ok- the HELLOWEEN quotation was a little bit overdone. But song No 2 has such an upbeat that I thought on them. Well, to my faves from above I have to add the first track 'Wings of fire' of course. I rate this CD an 8,9/10 or even 9/10

From: juan carlos Date: June 4, 2006 at 22:43
Gran disco. 8.9/10

From: juan carlos Date: June 4, 2006 at 22:44
Saludos.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 7, 2007 at 15:16
They went harder on this one but it's still a great album of course not as good as their debut but very acceptable too.I suppose that some fans couldn't accept the slightly change in their musical direction but it's a melodic hard rock album not an aor album(i was one of them). You need to listen to the album many times until you dig the change. At least it wasn't a grunge album thanks God...

From: coverdale14 Date: March 2, 2007 at 13:28
WITHOUT A DOUBT, OF COURSE IS A CHANGE OF DIRECTION, AFTER HIS SUPERB DEBUT ONE OF THE AOR GEMS. COMES THIS THIS IS MELODIC-HARD, MORE IN THE LINE OF TEN. THAT'S WHY HE LEFT THE BAND, HE WANTS A CHANGE OF DIRECTION LIRYCALLY AND MUSICALLY. BUT IS AWESOME: SURRENDER, LIES, BREAKOUT AND THE BALLAD REAL LOVE TOPS. 9/10.

From: vinny burns Date: March 31, 2007 at 15:06
Well, this is an interesting debate . Just wanted to clear up a couple of things. We never said this album was a mistake. We did say that looking back, it was all a bit too much, too quick. Secondly, the budget Keith Olsen had for this album was $200,000. If you thank that is not enough budget well....... I don't know what to say. Keith likes to stand by the successes and find excuses about the ones that didn't sell as many. We paid the same amount as everyone else who worked with him. Vinny.

What are you up to dear Vinny?.Are you playing in a band right now?.I know you are the guitar player in Ten but are you still in?.I saw your band a couple of time in England when you released that marvellous album called 'Out of the Silence'(you were the support act for Europe and Gary Moore).Let me tell you that at that time there was no band similar to Dare in the whole world man!.congratulations 4 that!.Anyway about the good old Keith...well i guess he was doing his job(to get more money of c

My favourite Dare CD by far. I love it from the beginning to the end. Could someone tell me how many b-sides there were for this disc?. I have the 'Real Love' vynil with three extra songs ('Killer lover', 'Rideaway' and 'Run to me') and I know there is also a Japanese Bonus Track ('Walk on water'). Are there any others?.

A huge disappointement after the utterly brilliant debut. I remember how bad I anticipated this album, got it, and then......huh?!?! Not even close the perfect AOR of the first album. That is of course the main reason for my disappointment, 'cause this is still a very, very good hard rock album. The fact that they changed their sound to a more standard commercial hard rock wasn't to their advantage. There were bands out there doing this stuff as good (not better) but as an AOR act, there wasn't.

(continued) There are however some highlights on this disc I still play today from time to time. Like Wings Of Fire, We Don't Need A Reason and Surrender. Perfect uptempo melodic hard rock, IMO. With a slightly better production and a few more highlights this could've bee in my top 20 hard rock albums, ever. I can't stand the western tinged (Bon Jovi influenced) 'Chains' and a few too many Ooooh's and Who-oh's on the scond half for me to be comfortable.

From: BIG-TIME Date: February 28, 2008 at 14:16
Im with AOR Feaky (strange huh!)not that great IMO. Big production and sound but the first 3 tracks sound celtic (Scotish, Irish) and none of the tracks are catchy or memorable, like I said BIG sound but nothing that stands out. Darren Wharton has a good voice but he misses the mark for me, the scales he sings on the songs just don't pull me in. If Jeff Scott Soto was on this I think it would have slayed any other H/R album...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

From: DanDare Date: August 26, 2008 at 18:44
I love Darren Wharton and I love Dare. There I said it and I don't care who knows it. I could listen to their albums til the cows come home, but with this one I can't help feeling that they were trying to hard to be rocking. That said 'We Don't Need a Reason', 'Surrender' and 'Real Love' and brilliant and are really good sing-a-long tracks. 95/100.

From: Zoner Date: September 26, 2008 at 18:43
Still excellent, but nothing near their debut.

From: erik Date: April 18, 2009 at 7:30
superior to all of their other albums. massive sound, great chorusses, melodic rock at its finest. and the voice does fitt the songs perfectly, contrary to what some r writing here. imo they should have stuck to this genre. and to compare album 1 ( aor) to album 2 (rock) well they have a saying for that, something with apple and pears..... Anyway killer album 92/100

look at my comments about out of the silence "sessions".here it s the same stuff (blood from stone sessions) 8 songs left off the blood from stone record.i discover this raritie on e bay recently.received it today from portugal.for information i pay it 42 dollars.i put a high price on my bid cause i was sure that it will be a marvellous record.right!!!!! it s a wet dream for melodic rock lovers.great sound, fantastics songs.36 minutes of happiness.i know one track "walk on the water " cause it s the japan bonus track of the official blood from stone japan import.beautiful southern rock song who could be played by masters of the genre like doc holliday or lynyrd skynyrd(the sound of the voices is better on the japan import)..the rest? a dream.track 1 and 4 are hard rock songs in the same vein of blood from stone.all others tracks are extraordinary aor (without keyboard )who could be present on out of silence.no problem.to rick my friend from venezuela.do you know this jewel?if not buy i

Yes my friend 123charpenay!!!..there is also another "sessions" album from Dare(this time from "Blood From Stones") and is comprised of 8 songs left out of this album...btw for me quite good ones, those could have been easily out in an official Dare release(from that "sessions" there is one song that probably was not gonna be at any Dare album, the name is "Ride Away" which it sounds at the beginning of each paragraph like the song "Stone In Love" of Journey!!! )....cheers mate!!!

From: 123charpenay Date: July 8, 2012 at 15:18

an absolute hard rock masterpiece and def DARE s finest hour!Keith Olsen creates a massive sound and everything is big!the choruses, the backing vocals ,the guitars, the songs, everything is as it should and i really enjoy after so many years revisiting that monster of an album!

on the blood from stone sessions there is an extraordinary song track 3 "cold wind will blow".sometimes i m subjugate by the strange choices of the bands or the records compagnies.this song is certainly one of the more beautiful a o r song ever.a hit who deserve to be playing on radios ten times by day.but this jewel is not on the blood from stone original record.i don t understand..............

From: Roxas Date: March 28, 2022 at 14:39
