My favorite Petra album, as well as one of my favorites of all time. The Elefante brothers brought a rocker. "Hit you where you live" does just that both musically and lyrically.

Su mejor disco.Dejaron el toque progresivo de sus dos discos anteriores,y se quedaron con la parte mas comercial y melodica, buenos temas y produccion muy limpia.GRAN DISCO.

This is the first Petra I got and noticed my fav singer John Schlit of HEast is the vocalist, this is a great one with 5 classic Petra tunes, All Fired Up, Hit You Live, Minefield, Counsel and Somebody. I loved this one that led me to all the other Petra releases, this one ties with Beyond Belief in my book!!!!

oh boy what an album!! this is why i listen to this kind of music...no because of long hairs, tattoos, piercings, all of this background...but this music has so much happy, feelgood feeling that it makes me cry when i think that someday i can die and be without albums like this jewel...well, for me if paradise exist they must have there Petra-On Fire(as well 1000 other cd's )...All Fired Up and Hit You Where You LIve combo is absolutely sensational, i'm out of words...

This is the best Petra CD, and one of the bests CDs ever. If you're about to rock, buy it with your eyes closed.

Fantastic release by one of the most interesting CCM bands but somehow underrated...Petra is an institution in CCM music 4 sure..Open Fire is so far their most successful album coz it has balnaced songs between HR and Hard AOR and of course ballads...talking about the album now i did not found any weak song in it being the track "MInd Field" the "less" attractive but still acceptable..."All Fired Up" is a good opening track,"Hit Me Where You Live" is a good song and "First Love" is a bombastic ballad with a beautiful message then "Defector" is a very good one and "Counsel Of The Holy" is surely one of the best track..just a killer tune indeed.."Somebody's Gonna Praise His Name" is just wonderful,"Open Book" is another goodie "Stand In The Gap" is putting things to a golden end that is "Homeless Few"..Just a marvellous album 2 have.95/100

From: MadMax Date: November 28, 2010 at 5:34
Rick puts it quite right! Best Petra album for sure! I think First Love being the weakest track (bit too cheesy) and still listenable this album is hard to beat...although year 1988 is about the best year there has been, musicvise (Iron Maiden - Seventh Son, Queensryche - Opoeration M., Survivor - Too Hot To Sleep, Toto - The Seventh One, Magnum - Wings Of Heaven, Yngwie Malmsteen - Odyssey, Impellitteri - Stand In Line, Bad Company - Dangerous Age, Jason Becker - Perpetual Burn, Forcefield II - The Talisman, Joshua - Intense Defense, Vinnie Moore - Time Odyssey, Ozzy - No Rest.., Scorpions - Savage Amusement)!

Hey MadMax your list of bands/albums is awesome!!!!... ...1988 was a very intense year for bands and some great releases came out at that time...

At the time of its highly-anticipated release, this was Petra's heaviest album ever (though, to be fair, when talking about Petra, you have to use the term "heavy" lightly), with added punch to the arena-rock style of the guitars. The songs featured some dead-on hooks and the choruses, in keeping with producers John & Dino Elefante's trademarks, were big, explosive, and stacked with backing vocals like a porn star's double-Ds stacked in a two-sizes-too-small sweater (yes, I just made a porn metaphor while describing a Christian band...get over it). This is Christian rock done right and if you're in the mood for some high quality stadium rock, this will set your speakers on fire.

From: elljam Date: January 24, 2012 at 10:03
Listened to this today & it's definitely one of their stronger albums. Production stands up well with powerful guitar sound & big backing vocals(like a lot of the hard rock bands of this era). Top tunes are "Hit you where you live", "Mine Field", "Counsel of the holy" & "Stand in the gap". Of the two ballads "Homeless Few" is good but "First Love " should have been given to Barry Manilow.
