I'm a casual Thin Lizzy fan, and was just as interested in Damon Johnson (Brother Cane) and Ricky Warwick (Almighty) working together, with that being said I think BSR created a solid CD. Of the 12 songs my faves are "All Hell Breaks Loose", "Kingdom of the Lost", "Hey Judas" and "Before The War", and IMO the only weak track is "Blues Ain't So Bad". The production is good, but maybe a little to overproduced or restrained?, maybe I'm not expressing this right, but to me it doesn't sound like a live band playing together, and the guitars lack "punch". I know this started off as a Thin Lizzy CD and there are some obvious Thin Lizzy inspired songs ("Bound For Glory"), but they also forge their own sound on some of the material. I think Black Star Riders have created a CD worthy of the Thin Lizzy legacy as well as creating an album that fans of classic/hard rock in general would enjoy. |
