This is a welcome return for Doug Aldrich after BMR's "Opium for the Masses" mess. The band marks Doug's return to an 80's hard rock feel, and his playing shines throughout the album. I was extremely happy with Keith's St. John's vocals; it made a better impression on my ears than Kal Swann from Lion and BMR. Had to buy the Japanese import at the time, but it was worth every penny. (9 out of 10)

A very cool band!!!

From: WhiteLion Date: September 20, 2001 at 8:47
Great songs, great guitarplay and good vocals! This is a keeper Go and get it!!!

From: Ronnie Date: September 30, 2001 at 1:14
Kick ass guitar...I'm glad to say they still do make good metal....I wish more bands would do this..

From: Reno Date: May 3, 2002 at 0:38
Doug Aldrich kicks ass on anything he's on. This guy needs more attention than he gets. Totally underrated guitarist. NOW....About the cd.....Great.

From: David Date: August 22, 2002 at 1:46
Is this better than their second cd because I didn't like their second album much at all?

Ya know, I gotta start paying more attention, much like Bad Moon Rising, I listened to a few tracks from this and thought wow, cool guitars. Anything else with Mr. Aldrich I'm missing? I know the Dio and the Hurricane stuff, and obviously Lion.

From: Don Date: December 21, 2002 at 0:37
Absolutely incredible!!! Saw Aldrich on tour this summer with Dio, and was blown away. Led me to buy this CD, and I am astounded. One of the best discs I've purchased in the last five years. Great vocals, mind-blowing guitars, hooks galore, you name it, this has it. Fans of Lynch Mob and Badlands should really check this out!

Finally got the actual disc instead of trying to piece together the few MP3's I was able to find and I have to say it was definitely worth the wait. This CD just kicks ass, Aldrich just fuckin' smokes! Like one of the earlier comments suggests, it's almost like he got a new lease on life after getting kinda booged down in the BMR stuff (IMHO). I could not be happier with this purchase.

BTW that should have been "bogged down", not "booged down" which I'm not even sure what it means...

From: Reno Date: June 2, 2003 at 19:34
Booged down? Remember when you were a kid and you used to pick your nose and then........nevermind. :P

From: Corwin Date: July 24, 2003 at 5:40
Great CD ! Made in the grand tradition of hard rock, much like Bad Moon Rising, except for the vocs, but don't worry about that, Keith st John doesn't disappoint one bit . . . . Highly recommended !!!

From: Rycheage Date: January 30, 2004 at 0:55
If you are looking for a solid rock album - this is going to go down very well indeed. Eleven tracks of blues drenched hard rock with guitar everywhere and not a sign of anything modern or grungy.

The second one, "Pleasure to Burn" is equally good IMHO. I think they're getting the most consistent play in my collection these days.

From: dannyrock Date: February 1, 2004 at 13:26
theres no doubt this guys are know knowing one of the best band releases on the earlier millenium.a must have.thanks

From: BRM Date: March 11, 2004 at 22:26
VERY GOOD, this is the best album I have heard Doug Aldrich on, was lucky enough to pick up mint Jap edition with obi, for £3 ($5), was lucky i suppose. Great production. Great Guitar, Great Vocals....Well great everything Really!!! IF YOU GET THE CHANCE BUY IT!! you won't be dissapointed.

From: dckiss Date: July 4, 2004 at 0:45
This album kicks major ASS!!!! Who is Keith St.John? This guy is AWESOME his voice reminds me of Ray G. of badlands. Don't get me wrong I don't think he is a copy, just a similar style. I see albums selling on ebay all the time for 50-60 bucks....while few albums are worth that (at least to me) I would pay that for this album.

From: Propane Date: November 30, 2004 at 9:46
This is absolutely amazing! A true musician indeed. Buy this one immediately.

From: Dave Date: December 30, 2004 at 22:26
I think the reviews for this are a bit over the top.Yes, Aldrich's guitar playing is sensational but in my view nothing else really stands out on this album. The slower songs don't work for me as they just seem to have been put in there for the sake of just having some slower ones on the album. This album is good but no where near great. The "Pleasure To Burn" album is alot better in my view.

From: BOLIN44 Date: February 28, 2005 at 2:03
Ok, I LOVE Aldrich on all his CD's so far. This is another brilliant effort, along with the follow-up "Pleasure To Burn". I must admit however, getting used to the 80's style lyrics again was a little trying. I wasn't expecting that. To give you an idea of what I mean, it's alot like the Lynch Mob & Whitesnake type lyrics. Actually, it seems like the boys were listening to Lynch Mob when they wrote this stuff! Quite a few similarities. As said above with the Badlands comparisons, I don't see it

From: BOLIN44 Date: February 28, 2005 at 2:15
(Continued from above)......Badlands had a way different tone and style. By the way, Badlands are VERY highly recommended listening! Anyway, the music on this Burning Rain CD completely BURNS!! It filled with hella grooves and hooks. This unknown singer sounds like he's been with the band for YEARS!! He's got got the whole Rock N Roll vocal vibe down man. It will leave you remembering almost every chorus/melody. The production is excellent as well. Get the JAPAN versions, they sound better.

From: Geoff Date: March 16, 2005 at 5:19
If you love your hard rock solid, consistent and well done, check this out. Whilst I like it I some times get lost a little with the straight ahead hard rock approach as it gets a little unspectacular and "samey" at times... sometimes like the debut Mr Big CD, but this is more consistent. I don't adore this CD, but it's good hard rock and the 2 ballads are very nice too. Good stuff.

From: Kikekázeres Date: April 15, 2005 at 17:30
Wow!! It is all I can say!!! Aldrich is immense here!!!! The whole CD is top-notch. Buy it now!!!

From: metalmastermusic Date: April 21, 2007 at 23:58
This is an outstanding release, definetly in my top 10 albums. Aldrich is amazing on the guitar and the vox rock as well. You don't see to many complete albums out there any more but this is a must have disc !! Every song is great !! Smooth Loco is my favorite.

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: April 24, 2007 at 1:27
Very Good Hard Rock, muy 80's en Linea a los Whitesnake de esa epoca y tambien a sus Bad Moon Rising aunque siempre me quedare con los Lion un disco para amantes del buen Hard Rock clasico 8.5/10

From: DOUG Date: August 30, 2009 at 15:52
FANTASTIC CD,ALDRICH SMOKES...K.ST.JOHN's VOCALS ARE AMAZING...IF YOU LIKE 80'S HARD ROCK WITH A BLUESY FEELING...GO AND GET IT!9/10

From: hair metal again Date: December 21, 2015 at 10:54
very very good debut by BURNING RAIN with their sound being close to WHITESNAKE,JAGGED EDGE or SKIN s debut!the vocals by Keith are really impressive and the strongest part and the guitar work pretty solid too!the songwriting should be better and i believe that their next one is much better!"cheery grove","making my heart beat" and "can t turn your back on love" are the best songs!pretty good stuff here
