Maybe their best album. it is a wonderful album to own for the love songs by don barns and the boogie southern rock by Donnie Van Zant

Yeah, this one is probably the one to go with, if you're looking to get past the greatest hits and start going, album for album, into their catalog. The definition of Southern AOR. Not too Skynyrd, but not too Survivor either. An excellent blend of dirt-road AOR for long summer nights.

Wonderful Album.Production is excellent

From: holyroller Date: January 16, 2004 at 23:45
Can't lose with this one, in my opinion. A lot of the southern rock bands that followed Skynyrd were mostly just cheap imitations, but 38 went on to do their own thing. They made no bones about writing catchy, radio-friendly melodic rock tunes, and I bet were an (often times overlooked) influence on a lot of the hair metal bands. Don Barnes is a great vocalist, and the songs on this one are all first rate. If you can put on "If I'd Been The One" and "Back Where You Belong" and your head doesn't

Koogles, you really hit the nail on the head with your definition of Southern AOR. Not jam-oriented like Skynyrd, not too wimpy like Toto. Just great straight-ahead American rock 'n roll with awesome harmonies. Although every song rocks, this one would even be worth it just for the first 2 tracks alone.

Carrying on where 'Special Forces' left off, although this is even more Aor sounding than that one. Don Barnes churns out Excellent songs (yet again) with the band showing no signs of letting up.

Good work, el segundo mejor de la banda, otro buen trabajo este album tambien deberias tenerlo ante todo por tener 2 de las mejores canciones del grupo Back Where You Belong y If I'd Been the One 2 clasicos dentro del AOR, tambien hay otros buenos cortes como Long Distance Affair, One of the Lonely Ones no un clasico pero es bueno.

Considered by many to be their peak, there is no denying it is a great effort full of charm & good time music mostly due to the slick production & consistent tight songs. "If I'd Been the One" & "Back Where You Belong" are among the best the band ever did.

Gran Album de AOR, un buen trabajo de los 38 special, me quedo con "If I'd Been the One" un tema muy buenizimo!!

From: barker Date: November 7, 2008 at 14:54
Yes I think they peaked with this one - very listenable with great songs and musicianship wrapped in perfect production.

From: edwithmj Date: January 24, 2010 at 21:59
Great release with my favourite songs being I Oughta Let Go, One Time For Old Times, Twentieth Century Fox and Back Where You Belong. Donnie only sings on four songs which is a pity but Don Barnes does a good enough job on the others but his voice sounds too contrived and not Southern enough for me.

maybe their best album.one of the best melodic rock album of the history.an incredible southern aor band the lone in this style and the best without a doubt."undercover lover" track 9 is a bomb, how a song of this quality never was an international hit?mystery.this song is fanstastic a classic hard rock tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: Animal! Date: February 5, 2011 at 20:10
If for no other reason "If I'd been the one" is the reason to have this one.

The well known American Southern Rock band turned more and more to the AOR sound of the early 80's. With great songs and an excellent clear, airy production they found a winning formula well suited for radio but still appealing enough to rock fans. "Tour De Force" could very well be their finest album and it's a piece of Melodic Southern Rock at it's very best.
