One of the best West Coast AOR CDs to ever come out of Canada, if you like these guys- check out Renegade's 'Back From the Dead' (2001). The singer in Renegade is a deadringer for David Forbes. I still like the first BLVD CD a bit better but I think 'Rainy Day In London' (from this one) is one of their finest songs ever. Chills baby chills.

Well, well, well, I haven't listend to this for about 10 years, but was scrolling through the new comments and saw Koogles post. So I dug out my old cassette copy and pressed play. What can I say - This album is an absolute MONSTER, Eye of the Hurricane is just starting and the first 4 tracks are fantastic. I can't wait to get to Rainy Night in London (as I have fond memories of that track). If things continue I will have to find a CD copy. :-)

Don't let the ratings on this album fool you. Nobody even knows or cares about this band, but yet someone rated them over 660 times. It must be one of the band members or their retarded mother? Who ever the freak is, this person has no taste for music.

Another classic. What a great effort by Boulevard. A worthy successor to the debut album. A must have for any AOR lover. The only downside i can think of is that they released just two albums. Superb stuff !

Very thoughtful and well put together melodic rock arrangements, and for the most part, they are all strong that I'm scratching my head trying to find a weak one. The string of songs of 'Talk To Me', 'Where Is The Love', 'Lead Me On', 'Eye Of The Hurricane', 'Light Of Day' and 'Crazy Life' are about as good a run of songs on a CD as you'll ever likely to hear. 'Rainy Day In London' is the token ballad and provides a lucid backdrop, while a Zappacosta vibe makes itself known on 'Where Are You Now'.

Melodic Rock in perfection! If you like Strangeways or Giant you'll love these guys. This is the more guitar oriented second release, which contains their most beautiful ballad 'Rainy day in London'. You can clearly hear the improvements of David's voice compared to the first release (anyway you GOT to own both). A shame this band dissolved shortly after the release of 'Crazy life'.

'Eye of the Hurricane' is one of those instant classic songs you always find yourself singing. The debut is better, but this is still awesome. Agree with the Renegade comparison, definitely check them out too.

I don't understand how such a wonderful band like this couldn't break through when they first came out. I bought this album on LP so i have a really collector's item. It even came with a photo of the band and some extra information about the band itself. The information says that there are similar to glass tiger and roxy music. They even opened a concert for TINA TURNER,can you believe that guys.

Not really a good comparison comparing this one to FM. And saying this is better or worse is a pointless argument yet again. Both bands are/were fantastic. 'Blvd' or 'Indiscreet, 'Into The Street or 'Tough It Out', just get all 4 of them and enjoy two of the best bands of the AOR genre.

As a self respect A.O.R. lover consider Boulevard releases(both)as it would be a tool for a mechanic, a car for a race pilot, a camara for a photographer an so on... For me, togheter with the big ones: early FM and Stan bush, Jeff Paris, early Dare, Strangeways, etc. Although as said on the other page, I prefer their first one because of a less moody vein wich this one has. Anyway, ESSENTIAL.

|
From: ninjapeter |

Hello Yiro: I will try to explain as best I can. I like a good aor album as much as anyone else but to me this should not even be called aor because to me this is just pop rock to me. I hate songs that are dominated by keyboards (and I don't mean piano) because it sounds very fluffy and artificial to me, no depth to it. It also has no audible vibrations that caress the soul. I might as well listen to something like Madonna or Michael Jackson if I were to listen to this and I won't do that. I guess I broke some unwritten law by critisizing this band since I don't follow the leader. Sorry to anyone I offend but I think this band is pure garbage so no it was not a joke to rate it so low. I hope you understand.

From: newscandi |
Date: March 31, 2008 at 20:05 |
Please, ninjapeter, tell me what's your difference in your so-called piano and keyboard? I mean, because AOR IS keyboard orientated for me. Just tell me examples of AOR you like. It's almost never with piano, or do you mean piano alike sounds by sinthi?
|
From: ninjapeter |
Date: April 3, 2008 at 2:39 |
Hello newscandi, I am always amazed that people ask the difference between keyboards and piano. Piano is acoustic and keyboards are electronic and sound very artificial because there are no actual strings. I don't even mind keyboards if they are used only as a background for atmosphere but if they are the main instrument it makes the music very shallow to me. I like a lot of aor like Dare, Alliance, etc. I wouldn't even call this band aor, it's more pop rock. I hope I explained what I meant well enough.

Hello Ninjapeter: Well. You can say that you don´t like an album and that is something that i respect, even if disagree with you. There´s no problem about it. My complain is about the RATING. Man, For instance, I don´t like Madonna´s albums or Avril Lavigne´s, but i don´t say that they are garbage, because they aren´t, i mean, the fact that i don´t like their music doesn´t mean that they are crap, and that is something that has a lot to do with the Rating. I think You should be more objetive and careful with the way that you rate an album, because 1 of 100? man, i´m sorry but that is not a reasonable rate, and don´t feel bad if the people here in this site don´t take your ratings seriously. In the other hand, i must applaud your education in your answer.

PODEROSO YIRO!,you are right!!!...how come such a wonderful album like this gets so little rating???...THIS ALBUM MIGHT NOT BE A JEWEL BUT IS FAR BETTER THAN OTHER "SO CALLED" AOR RELEASES!!!.

It's indeed an Westcoast/AOR masterpiece. Dig into this album...Pure melodies and nice vocal harmonies, Well produced...Let Boulevard take you on an AOR heaven. Ah, and this one produced by John Punter... (Also He had produced Strangeways' 2nd album "Native Sons")

Found this one ny accident in a used music store about a year ago. Glad I did. While I in enjoyed their first release, I play this a little more often. A little harder edged with some great melodies and vocals.

It took a while to find this one but it was worth the wait. Solid rock/AOR with great musicianship and vocals. While I do like their 1st self titled release, I have to give this one the edge, but not by much!

This is right up there with some of the best AOR I've heard. The vocalist is out of this world - his voice is pitch-perfect and as smooth as ice. My favourites are the atmospheric Lead Me On, the uplifting Eye of the Hurricane, the awesomely catchy Crazy Life and Need You Tonight. My only complaint is that the guitars could've been a bit more technical. Top class.

Boulevard, initially called BLVD was formed in Calgary, Canada in 1983 by singer and saxophone player Mark Holden. They released an excellent debut album in 1988 and gained exposure by touring Canada as support act to Glass Tiger and Boston on the final leg of the "Third Stage" tour. Follow up album "Into The Street" from 1990 is regarded by many as Boulevard's best work and praised in numerous reviews around the world, cited as a genre classic and one of the best releases of the 90's. With a clear and (for it's time) nice production by John Punter, melodic, catchy songs and David Forbes's outstanding vocals, it's an essential Canadian classic finally available on Spotify.

excellent 2nd release for BOULEVARD offering a perfect classy melodic sound with amazing musicianship&songwriting!their sound is somewhere between STRANGEWAYS and ALIAS and the quality is obvious in every tune!its really strange the "where is the love " didn make some impact back in the day and that there was no follow up in the 90s!essential

Excellent AOR just like the stunning debut. Skilled musicians all of them and smooth, catchy soft rock/AOR tunes. Simply an amazing melodic rock album and all songs are good. Perfect rating to me. John Punter had the enormously hard task to create another killer sound, similar to Fraser/Rock, not easy, but he did it so very well. Amazing sound down to details, mmm CD sounds great in my sound system. Turn it up!
