This was released due to the licensing on the older albums from Mca/Atco being impossible to get at the time, so the new line up went and re-recorded alot of those tracks and whacked them on the two volume 'Twenty Years From Home' albums. There are differences in the versions, but the band have stuck pretty rigidly to the originals. If you get this make sure you get 'Volume 2'aswell - or even better track down the hard to find Axepertise editions of the 'S/T' and 'Living On The Edge' releases. |

I didn't know this band until I bought this cd. I must admit it didn't thrill me that much. There's a lot of poor songs here, sometimes as uninspired as it gets! Still, I really enjoy Now or Never (my favorite song and easily a classic AOR track) and Forever (a pleasant ballad). Believe it when people say this is a poor man's Jorney, but give it a try and you'll be surprised by a few tracks. |

This is way better than Journey ever was and will be, howe ! |
From: howe | Date: March 23, 2005 at 19:50 |
I could argument that Journey have a huge collection of hits and that they influenced an incredible number of bands, but this is not a matter of that. If this band sounds better than Journey to you, then it simply is better than Journey. It's all about hears, not arguments! Cheers |

I've always loved these guys and this is a great collection. I was initially a bit disappointed when I saw that it was re-recordings, but as Jez points out, they really stuck close to the originals. At times they border on being a bit too cheezy, but all in all, this is good guitar oriented AOR with just enough keys (but not too much) to fill out the sound. I see very few similarities with Journey, other than that they are both melodic with a lot of guitar. Just my opinion... |

'Poor Mans Journey' is way off the mark!!!!!never heard that comparison before anywhere. Strange how some peoples hearing works sometimes. |

If you have to compare this band with another what will be your choice, Jez, Metallica? Of course there's something here that sounds a lot like bands in the vein of Journey. Don't tell me that a song like Forever isn't comparable to some of Journey's ballads. Besides, what's really strange about some people's hearing is how they can find this band so perfect! Again, I like a few songs here (some of them are really good), but IMO this band is just one more among hundreds of others in the genre. |

Not hear to argue with you, If you think some Axe sounds like Journey then fair play, just I don't hear it my self, and can't say i know of one song that brings Journey to mind (OK 'Forever'is a ballad and Journey wrote ballads)and as I said above, I have never heard anyone speak of a comparison before - wasn't criticising!!! |

Twenty Years From Home SOUNDS LIKE AXE!!!! End of discussion!! |
From: howe | Date: April 15, 2005 at 18:06 |
I think it is important that we make comparisons here so that people can have a clue about a band they don't know. I'm not saying these guys are Journey clones. I simply have my reasons to compare both bands in some aspects (not just the sound; mainly the formula, the groove, the vocals at times). Ok, but we're here to give our opinion, and I don't want to sound like I hate this band. Today I listened to Now or Never (A+) a couple of times! So you see I really like some of their songs. Cheers |

Great band!!! Great compilation!!! Even though the songs are slightly revamped, they stayed close enough to the originals that , it combined with the excellent improved production and sound make the old standards shine like never before. Gotta have this one!!! |

Stick to the original albums. They are pretty easy to get now. When this came out, they were very hard to come by but not now. |
