Asia was Asia with The voice of John Wetton. The music is still there but John Payne does not have the voice for this band(or should I say The Geoff Downes Project).I find it highly irratating to listen to , with his operatic wannabe warblings.lose this guy or change the name of the band .......PLEASE!

i´m completely disagree with you because Jomh Wetton is a bad and ridiculous singer, john Payne is a real singer and this is the most AOR album from ASIA, for me is the best cd. Idon´t believe in fanatism and i judge the music with sincere ideas, and i say that this is the best album of ASIA BY FARRRRR!!(listen to the track "Desire". for contact:haremscarem@eresmas.com

John Wetton a bad voice, i don't think so old boy, Both Wetton & Payne both r superb vocalists and don't forget their bass playing also. Both deserve the credit - Wetton for then, Payne for now

Obviously "the scarab" & "west of sunset" are completely biased in both of their opinions however with good reason.Asia made their mark in the early eighties(1981 I think)with an outstanding debut that has stood the test of time an will remain a classic for eons to come.I can relate to "the scarab's " thoughts on John Payne's offerings,it's a bit hard to swallow. However I don't think he's a bad vocalist I just feel that the band no longer has the trademark Asia harmonies and melodic tenor.

I love this album! Payne's vocals are great. Get over it,people. Wetton is 'then' and Payne is 'now'. The album is what we are all reviewing here, not the singers. Since 'Aqua', every Payne-era CD is different from the last, and I like that and I'm not bored by monotony. Damn good album, great players, Pitrelli Rocks!

ASIA's last real "rock" album & a fine one it is. Now settled into their new sound & approach, "Aria" is another well-crafted album. Anyone who thinks that Asia died with John Wetton needs to jam a crowbar between their frontal & temporal lobes & use as much torque as necessary in order to achieve a state of openness. Stop looking at Asia as Wetton's band. Asia belongs to Geoffery Downes & thank F-ing god he had the good sense to keep it going & uphold the high standard on which it was founded.

Although AOR is not my kinda music ASIA has always been a band I'm interested in maybe because they introduce many talented musicians nearly in every album. I bought this with great curiousity. Totally amazed by the intro song "Anytime". My hope for the rest of the album increased. The second song "Are U Big En.." sounded also OK. But then came the horrible minutes. It turned into a boring stuff with a bothering low tempo and some unnecessary keyboard tunes (Despite I'm not a keyboard enemy)

It's obvious that Geoff Downes is the leader but he doesn't need to jump in the front everytime. Anyway this album should be so much better when you look at the personnel. Can't believe that the guitarist is the same man in Widowmaker. May be I need a few more listening to get used to but how can it be possible while it's an extremely deep AOR stuff.

Not as good as "Aqua", a little more laid-back but worth buying...

Its really sad to see people being so close-minded. Wetton is a great singer, BUT ASIA WITH PAYNE APPROACHED NEW MUSICAL STANDARDS. I have seen both Payne and Wetton performing live and I can say that Payne has a fantastic techinique. He is more of a musician...Concerning the album, this is my all-time favorite, and the only thing I can say is a big ''thank you'' to the band for releasing this masterpiece that will always stay in my heart!!! THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC

this is an album that establishes Asia as one of the greatest rock bands of alltime.John Payne added so much class and quality to their music that sometimes i forget about the early days (80's).In fact ,their 90's "new" sound justifies the label "progressive" given to the band in a much more convenient way that their old predictable aor tunes.Either way ,Asia rules!

A good followup to "Aqua"(which is my favorite Payne-era Asia cd). The songs on "Aria" are a bit more epic in nature as opposed to the more straightfoward rock on "Aqua", though "Anytime" is about as catchy a tune as they've ever written. In regards to the Wetton vs. Payne debate, I really like both singers. Wetton is my favorite, but Payne has proved himself to be a more than suitable replacement.

I love the old Asia stuff. I grew up listening to it. To me what made Asia's trademark sound was the keyboards. John Wetton is a fine singer, but I was blown away by John Payne. I am not comparing this cd to early Asia, I love it for what it is. I DIG Sad Situation. So f@#*ing awesome! John's voice has a Michael McDonald edge to it that I like. He is obviously very talented. Also, the production and the songwriting are great(IMO)! I dare you naysayers to try and play this stuff! Great Aor/rock!!

Well, I never thought I'd be saying this about an Asia album, but this is a bloody good melodic rock album! I like every track except 2, 6 and 11. The rest is all very enjoyable melodic rock. Easily the best Asia album I have heard thus far.

Are You Big Enough,Desire,Sad Situation, etc.

Probably the best Asia album. Really good consistent melodic rock album. I really like the power of Payne's voice and some of the choruses are sheer bliss to listen to. I love "Silent Nation" too, but this one get my vote. Anytime, Summer, Sad Situation, Military Man and Don't Cut the Wire are the best songs, IMO.

I think this is a great cd! Not far from a masterpiece! Very similar to the best stuff from the band Magnum. John Payne sounds alot like Tony Martin or Bob Catley. A sure buy!!

Very enjoyable, but I still prefer the earlier stuff. Melody and hooks-a-plenty. I've never really heard the prog in Asia's music and this sits firmly in the melodic rock pile. Good guitar work, by the way.
