First for some HH trivia. There are 36 bands on this site with the name 'WHITE' in them. White Widdow, this Ausi band not to be confused with the American band 'White Widow'. Bands with the name 'RED' in them take 3rd place with 33. Of course if your not bored yet, the King of Colors is band names with 'BLACK' at 48. Maybe it's time for some bands to expand their creativity/originality beyond the color spectrum in naming themselves? I like this release overall. The first track 'Tokyo Rain' takes me back to vintage 'Heaven's Edge' sound. That song is their best IMO and stands firmly in MHR territory. To my ears the band goes a little overkill(keyboard crazy) as I like the hear the keys tuned down on the harder edged songs, so the guitar work stands out. On the track 'Broken Hearts' the keyboard touch sounds perfect IMO. I would love to see this band for their next release, up the ante with a pure melodic hard rock album. There is a free 3 song EP the band released in 2009 online.

This release is worth having it,it has the spark of what i call "pure AOR",great singer for this type of music and obviously good compositions..."Broken Hearts Won't Last Forever" is an excellent song, nice & catchy,"We've Got The Wings" is a highlight with a great chorus,"Cross The Bare" solid track,"Shadows Of Love" soft/solid excellent!,"One More Day" follows the same pattern as the previews one & "Change Of Passion" solid...as you can read, with songs having positive descriptions you can go wrong...90/100

excellent debut by WHITE WIDDOW with a certain 80 s feeling and much heart n passion in their music.musicianship isnt their strongest part ,but as a band at whole they are very bonded.very good songwriting like "broken hearts wont last forever" and "dont fail me now".there are no fillers though and the rest of the songs are remerkable.i liked very much the lyrics because they took me back to my youth with all that boy meets girl situation.overall awesome stuff, waiting for their 2nd step

Surprised no one has compared these guys to Shotgun Symphony (debut) yet! The vocals are almost identical to Traci White's and the music sounds every bit as good. Melodic Jersey-style AOR. Only complaint: I could have used a little more punch in the production department. For instance, the acappella intro to "Broken Hearts Won't Last Forever" could have jumped out at me a bit more. But there's more to love than to criticize on this CD: i.e. the 80s sounding keys are fantastic, especially on "Change of Passion" and "Shadows of Love". One of the better old school melodic rock CDs of 2010!

I'm impressed by this australian band. Without doubt one of the best albumns of melodic rock of the 2010. All tracks are very good. The best songs are: "We've Got The Wings", the powerfull "Cross To Bare", "Spirit Of Fire" and "Change Of Passion" that remember to the superb greek band called Raw Silk. In general very good guitars, keyboards and chorus. Also good voice and back to the 80's. 9/10

I did hear an (allegedly) unmastered version of the album a month or so back. Playing the 'new' CD version, the sound is virtually the same to my ears, so whether the leaked album was the full proper version or not I don't know. I said on my initial impression that the keyboards were overdone on here, & I stand by that statement now. Every little crevice is filled with the little buggers, not normally a problem with me, but there is no variation in the sounds used which doesn't help, plus they are maybe a little too high in the mix, which maybe the main problem. Songwise, there are some really good tracks here, but I am still waiting to be completely blown away by any of them if I am really honest, again, maybe a little predictable with not enough variation & I did find it a little one paced throughout aswell. Those criticisms aside, it is definitely a good album & the band can be justifiably proud of what they have produced and achieved here.

...Production by Martin Kronlund is excellent, the band, whilst obviously not the most talented out there, play and write well together & I could never quite put my finger on who they reminded me of until Koogles mentioned Shotgun Symphony, which I think is a spot on reference to this band,(although I think SS are the better of the 2 at the moment). All in all a very good debut, although I don't think it is as strong as some are making it out to be, but definitely a band I think will improve more and more as time goes on.

Koogles- your alive, revealing yourself from the Heavy Harmony Comments Protection Program. Long time no review as far as I've seen. Since you are one of the seasoned veterans on this site I thought I would throw you a couple questions. What in your opinion categorizes a band AOR rather than MHR? For example on the release Unruly Child S/T which to my ears is MHR,is labeled AOR here. You make a comment on 'The Brave - Battle Cries' putting that release in AOR territory which I would call MHR. Do you think the term AOR has a varied definition in the States compared to Europe or other factors? What is your feeling on artists posted on HH along the lines of Cher,Cutting Crew, ect.? Do they belong here in your opinion? I'm just picking your brain as you know how comments cross the spectrum on any given release. thanks.

Not too bad of a release! Just received my copy from NEH Records a couple days ago. I though from all the hype from this site it would be better. But 8/10 is pretty good!

Brilliant AOR album. It doesn't get much better than 'We've Got The Wings.' That's where AOR is at. The rest of the labum gets me going too. (90/100)

Don't see the big fuss here. Good AOR yes, but far from great. "Shadows of Love" and "Change Of Passion" are my faves.

Very good album, but 'Serenade' is better; you can see the evolution.
