Aug. 20, 2025: Temporary Message Board ClosureThe company hosting the message board sprung a surprise price hike on me that would have more than tripled the monthly hosting costs, so I've been scrambling to find an alternative. I've purchased a license for self-hosting a different platform and am hiring a consultant to migrate the existing board's content (posts, user profiles, etc.). However, this means I need to shut down the message board for anywhere from 3 days to (hopefully less than) a week so the data can be migrated. While this is an expensive proposition up front, it should result in some long-term savings. The current message board will be closed down at some point this Saturday, August 23. I will post updates here. The main site (where you are reading this), will NOT be affected. -Dan |

Hey Dan...you ever had one of those moments where you walk into a place with used c.d.'s and see an album in mint condition that you know goes for big bucks everywhere else priced at $4.99? Well I had one of those moments today. |

Tommy could have combined the best songs on this CD and the best moments on its follow-up ("What If") and still come up short by Styx standards. Similar to Peter Wolf's solo CDs: good for their hits, but taken as a whole, disappointing. Thankfully, Tommy got it right three years later with "Ambition". |

Tommy Shaw’s first solo outing is a bit of a mixed bag. In my opinion, there’s no way it could be called an AOR classic - that accolade would go to 1987’s 'Ambition' - but it’s good moments definitely out-weigh the bad. |

A VER MUCHACHOS, ESTE ES SU SEGUNDO MEJOR TRABAJO DESPUES DEL AMBITION POR SUPUESTO, HAY MUY BUENOS TEMAS COMO Girls With Guns, UN TEMA A LO LOVERBOY DE ESA EPOCA UN TEMA COMO PARA PONERTE A BAILAR, OTROS CORTES COMO Outside in the Rain TREMENDO TEMA ME ENCANTA CON UNA CHICA CANTANDO EN EL TEMA, NO SE QUIEN ES PERO ES MUY BUENA, TAMBIEN Free to Love You, Heads Up, The Race Is On, Come In and Explain SI AMIGOS ESTAMOS ANTE UN BUEN ALBUM, ASI QUE SI PODEIS CONSEGUIRLO NO LO PIERDAN. SALUDOS javi. |

Great debut solo this one, featuring some great tracks - 'Girls With Guns', 'Kiss Me hello', 'Lonely School' & 'The Race Is On'. Nice to have the extended versions of a couple of tracks aswell (especially 'Kiss Me'). Maybe a couple of fillers on here that bring the rating down a bit, but still a strong debut. |

Lonely School is worthy enough of purchasing this album. Top notch power ballad. ![]() |

Oh boy, is this boring ! Only the last song 'The Race Is On' is worth listening. The rest is forgettable ! Avoid ! Once again : Dennis Deyoung is/was Styx, not this guy at all ! |

Lo mejor de este disco viene a partir de "Lonely School" (Chequéen el video en You Tube Buenazo), gran solo en "Heads Up" buen tema, la media Pomposa "Kiss Me Hello" me recordó a Gowan Ok, punteo contagioso en "Outside in the Rain", arreglos y teclados bonitos en "Free to Love You" y mi favorita del disco: osea la guinda del pastel viene al final con "The Race Is On" me encanta!!. 8.5/10 |

Hard to beat the title cut for good 80's power pop. It should be a radio staple even today, on 80's shows! I rarely hear it though, if ever...luckily I have the song. Saw him open up for the Kinks the year this came out. Kinks blew him away of course, but he sounded good doing a couple Styx songs. |

This album is fantastic! Great bouncy 80s rock and the killer vocals you'd expect from Tommy Shaw. |
