Gran disco de AOR,grabado en la época donde los teclistas hacian horas extras,su musica ni muy blanda ni muy cañera,o sea en el punto medio.VALE LA PENA.

From: Beevuss Date: September 29, 2002 at 20:39
Good production and nice arrangements on this recording. The tunes aren't as heavier as their earlier material, but are still strong songs nonetheless.

From: Mike L Date: May 8, 2003 at 1:47
This is it!!!! The apex of AOR and a must have for any AOR fans. If you don't have this your collection is incomplete. Last studio album with original singer Gary West. "Summer Sun" is one of the best songs ever made. The band thought this album was so good that when their record label collapsed the band broke up in disgust but not before creating an AOR gem. Get it...You will love it!

From: Rocker76 Date: November 19, 2003 at 13:55
I agree with Mike! Right up there with the best of the 80s AOR bands (thought not nearly as well-known). Highlights include: "Summer Sun," "Don't Walk Away," and "In Her Eyes." Good stuff here. If you like the mid-80s Foreigner, Journey, REO, etc. - go find this one!!

From: robert Date: November 19, 2003 at 18:21
No esta nada mal este disco. unos desconocidos q hicieron un buen puñado d canciones d A.O.R.

From: Infinity Date: January 1, 2004 at 16:18
this is an really amazing AOR/melodic masterpiece. GET IT!!!

From: Rycheage Date: May 15, 2004 at 15:29
All the songs are worth a mention, but 'Summer Sun', 'Heat Of The Night' and 'Don't Walk Away' are perhaps the best examples of their stylish sound. The album closer 'Don't Stop Me Now' rocks like there's no tomorrow, reminiscent of their earlier stuff. The production is quite spacious, and allows the subtler side of the band to come through: intricate keyboards and Charles Waltz' violins. Great stuff.

From: Rockhead Date: May 18, 2004 at 7:13
Rycheagwe summed up my favourites as well as his own. This is a great Cd of melodic rock/aor.

From: Chad Date: October 22, 2004 at 23:45
My favorite of the Shooting Star collection. This is a gem. Gary West sings his nuts off. The songs hold up and it is a very good album. Pick this one up! You will not be disappointed. This is very good AOR rock.

PETER:this fuckin era in all facts REALLY STINKS!!!LONG LIVE 80´S !!! CHEERS FROM MEXICO !!!

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: April 3, 2005 at 0:40
A bit underrated I guess. I would expect some more reviews. Textbook a.o.r. from the mid 80's when everthing was on its place. Reminds me a bit Shy's "Excess all Areas" but in a softer way; with outstanding songwriting and musicianship but production could have been slightly better. For the keys-lovers I'd say. For shure is one thing, it is essential.

From: AOR freaky Date: April 3, 2005 at 3:53
Great stuff, ArnoldLancelot, but to be honest, I like their other work even a lot more. A song as 'Last Chance' is timeless ! Anyway : a FANTASTIC band !

Yawn Yawn Yawn !!!!!!

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: April 24, 2005 at 20:56
Good AOR album, buen disco de AOR pomposo de esa epoca con bastantes teclados y el mejor de la banda sin duda, Summer Sun, When You're Young, Don't Walk Away, I'm Getting Out, Heat of the Night los cortes sin duda, no una joya ni nada asi pero esta bueno. oye ArnoldLancelot como es eso que te recuerda al excess de shy jejeje na que ver!!!. a lo Journey o Le roux por poner 2 ejemplos.

After the debut, my favourite in their catologue. Some great songs on this 'Summer Sun', 'Somewhere In Your Heart' & 'Heat Of The Night' being my picks. That being said, this does lack the one total killer track that the 'S/T' (Last Chance) & 'Burning' (Preview/Straight Ahead) contained and subsequent albums didn't. The bonus tracks are pretty good aswell and make this edition well worthy of your attention.

From: bateman Date: December 1, 2005 at 2:31
This is definitely their classic - and a classic of all time (top 10), too! Every song on this album is simple but great and with the remaster from 1999 it gets even better. If you like AOR with pounding drums, big melodies and lots of keys, it would be a crime to miss that one.

what a perfect piece of melodic rock. 21 years have gone but this one sounds not a bit dated. brilliant stuff and a must have. 9,5/10

From: Harald Date: February 1, 2008 at 15:02
an AOR masterpiece, very much like Journey´s "Frontiers". Great songs and production and a voice made in AOR heaven. without a doubt 100/100

i use hh as my holy bible for researching albums before buying. dont think that will be the case for much longer seen as this topped hh top 100 for a while. nice easily enjoyable soft/pop rock but no killer tunes and ultamately a highly dissapointing drab sound.

From: sebastian08 Date: September 26, 2008 at 6:18
Good disc. "Don't Walk Away" my favourite song from this album...

From: rick kerch vzla Date: March 2, 2012 at 20:25
Undusted my old vinyl(bought it when it came out)and after all these years is time for me to write a comment...well i agree with the fellow above named Arnold Lancelot and the master Rafo Phoenix but basically every good comment is acceptable as this is one of the band's finest moments IMO..."Summer Sun" & "Heat Of The Night" are the best cuts of the album IMHO but add to those two the likes of "I'm Getting Out" & "Don't Walk Away"...if you're thinking of buying a SS album then have this one targeted ...88/100

From: 123charpenay Date: June 19, 2012 at 13:17
for one time i m not agree with rick ,our venezuelian master. the best shooting star record is without absoluty no doubt "it s not over".(a bomb).silent scream is not bad but ...it sound old, the production (3 producters) is very average.it sound very start eighties in the same vein of i. ten, michael bolton, kidd glove aldo nova van stephenson ect ect.but the aor of shooting star is not at the same level than artists or bands above.this cd is a real raritie but it s not a priority for your collection.this record don t hooked me.

From: Doug Date: June 19, 2012 at 17:24
"123charpenay"--I personally think “III Wishes” or “Hang on to Your Life” is their best albums.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: June 19, 2012 at 18:56
Hello 123charpenay!!!...yes my friend "It's Not Over" is a killer album...i wrote a comment on that one too...cheers mate!!!

From: Eric3 Date: June 1, 2017 at 23:21
Wow, great collection of songs here. Most are keyboard-driven and very catchy. Well-produced, well-sung, just a solid overall album. Personal favorites are "Summer Sun," "When You're Young," and "I'm Getting Out".

From: 707STAR Date: December 8, 2018 at 22:18
THIS IS MORE OF A DREAMY,SPIRITUAL ALBUM FOR ME WITH AWESOME MELODIES AND LYRICS. THEIR FIRST 4 ALBUMS WERE GREAT AS THIS THEIR FIFTH WAS TOO. NOT AS HARD ROCKIN AS THE OTHERS BUT IT SHOWS YOU HOW DIVERSIFIED THEY WERE.

From: Thomas/Coastline Date: March 11, 2021 at 19:04
"Silent Scream" from 1985 is the fifth album by American Pomp Rock/AOR band Shooting Star. Guitarist Van McLain and singer Gary West brought a great set of strong, memorable songs for the recording and famous producer Ron Nevison (Heart, Survivor etc.) gave it a radio friendly, polished sound. It's very much a product of it's time with all the important 80's ingredients like rocking guitars, swirling keyboards and big catchy choruses. The earlier albums had more of an edge to them but this commercial sounding release features some of the band's best material, such as the superb opening track "Summer Sun", "Heat Of The Night" plus the Journey-like "When You're Young" and "In Her Eyes". "Don't Walk Away" is also a very nice keyboard driven melodic song with an appealing chorus, so in summary this is a true classic and essential in every serious melodic rock collection. 9/10
