This is the bands best output in their long career. Everything clicks on this one. Fantastic mix of rockers and ballads. For once the US folks get a bonus song (Maybe Tonight) which is not on the European release.

From: serkan sarcan Date: January 8, 2002 at 6:24
this record is one of the best aor record.this is absolutely rock record. a must have record.i worship magnum and this record.

From: Fredrik Nilsson Date: June 11, 2002 at 5:36
One of their best albums, and a milestone in the history of melodic rock. The atmosphere is undescribable and standout tracks are Days Of No trust, Wild Swan & Pray For The Day.

From: Kim Date: June 20, 2002 at 13:44
.............A fantastic cd. I still listen to this one very often. Great tracks and a great production. Good Rock`n Roll.

From: koogles Date: July 20, 2002 at 13:45
I remember hearing WRIF (101.1 FM in Detroit) trying to break "Days of No Trust" on their Rate at Eight feature. Nobody cared. What a shame that Detroit and the rest of North America couldn't be bothered with this awesome band. "Wings of Heaven" isn't as good as its two predecessors, but it's still a killer CD.

From: Gar Date: September 11, 2002 at 15:48
Magnum were a consistantly good band and this album is no exception. It does seem like they were trying to break into the US market with this one. Too bad they only have a cult status here. They made some awesome music.

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: September 14, 2002 at 5:39

From: robert Date: October 22, 2002 at 10:26
GENIALES!!

From: peter crisp Date: January 14, 2003 at 7:01
This is their finest record, one of the best aor albums, excellent production, huge hooklines, and one of the best track ever recorded by the band, it is worth it for the album alone, one aimed at the American market, check out: "Don't Wake The Lion". No doubt if you enjoyed this studio album, their next one was even better another aor classic: "Vigilante"

From: tom Date: March 8, 2003 at 12:03

From: Mark Jevons Date: April 22, 2003 at 16:51
Absolute masterpiece from one of the most talented bands ever.

From: Tom Morton Date: May 10, 2003 at 12:56
Ah! America you just don't know how much you have all missed out on not being able to see them live! these guys are on a stage of their own they could get an empty room on its feet and get an encore from that room the ghosts of time would stand and sing with the best of them these guys will rock any building you can put them in everyone would come away with a smile as wide as the famous Grand Canyon, Wild Swan,Don't Wake The Lion will send shivers down your spine ah what a shiver!! stunning

From: Scandinavia Date: September 3, 2003 at 13:48
Remeeeember at the booorder When the blood ran like waaaater...Muuuurdered for escaaaaping...As the world looked on waaaiting...."Pray For The Day"!!! Killer track from this album...Good album with a slight overproduction...Not as good as "Vigilante" & "Storytellers Night" though...

From: Jimbo Date: November 22, 2003 at 0:41
With the exception of Pray for the Day, which is so-so, this CD is largely forgettable. Everyone above seems to love it, and that's great, but personally, the whole thing left me cold. It does have a nice edgy guitar sound, decent vocals and the production is just fine... but nothing gels. Like a bad mix of CAMEL and SURVIVOR---it's AOR without hooks. No offense to all the folks who made the glowing comments above, but for my taste this is one to avoid.

From: jonny ham Date: January 20, 2004 at 20:49
Great memories from colston hall in '88 when i heard 'wild swan' for the 1st time. Still listen to 'story tellers night' and 'vigilante' now and again for the odd treat... these guys are good.... are they still touring , anyone ???

From: Scandinavia Date: January 21, 2004 at 7:15
Yes, I spoke to Mark Stanway about 2 months ago and they're preparing a world tour....Original line up!!!...Should be around spring time he said...

From: Alister Hill Date: January 26, 2004 at 6:53
Oh - what can I say? This is the album that introduced me to Magnum, and even though it is not their best, it is good enough to drool over like a parched fish staring at the ocean. Indeed the late eighties were a a musical desert, and just the sight of Magnum on Top of the Pops in the UK was like a welcome cold shower after years of dry dust. But it is the SOUND of Magnum (not the sight - thankfully) that places them at the pinnacle of their genre. Melody, power, emotion and absolute talent!

From: Wotty Date: August 20, 2004 at 20:38
The CD that Magnum peaked with in the UK in the late 80s.They displayed class, power and passion on album as well as on tour,as I can vouch for after seeing them 5 times on said tour.Unfortunately,GOODNIGHT L.A and arena venues reared their ugly heads later, and apart from die-hard fans the buzz surrounding their mainstream fame fizzled out.CRIMINAL...

From: TIM (2) Date: August 23, 2004 at 4:18
Hey Wotty, I thought they peaked on the two previous albums to this. I thought the first 3 tracks of this were amazing but it faded a bit towards the end. I've seen them live too, awesome band, will see what awaits us with their new album (due anyday now)...

From: illimey Date: August 23, 2004 at 4:39
Guess who? Personally, I find WOH to be better than Vigilante, but any comparisons with On A Storytellers Night are somewhat pointless considering how different they are in style. OASTN is classic early Magnum in style with a pinch of commercialism thrown in. It is (IMHO) their finest hour. WOH is a pop-rock wonderland with superb production and endless soundscapes. It is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of the genre, but this Magnum fan prefers the OASTN sound. New album in 7 days!

From: illimey Date: August 23, 2004 at 4:45
Oh - and yeah! Magnum live is indeed an awesome experience! If you are blessed enough to be in the UK during their forthcoming tour YOU MUST GO SEE THEM. Bob, Tony and Mark are now joined by Al Barrow on bass and Harry James (Thunder) on drums! They have had rave reviews from the three festivals they have performed at over the summer and are well oiled and raring to go! Visit www.magnumonline.co.uk for full details! I just wish I could come join in the fun - but I am stuck here in IL.

From: Wotty Date: August 23, 2004 at 16:36
To Tim[2].Storytellers Night was the foundation,Vigilante was the foyer and Wings of Heaven was the penthouse.Unfortunately Goodnight L.A.was the wrecking ball that knocked the building down. But its good to see the Brummie boys have clawed their upwards towards that penthouse again...

From: illimey Date: August 24, 2004 at 3:24
Oh Wotty! How RIGHT you are! OASTN is indeed the foundational Magnum opus by which all their other albums should be judged! Vigilante is indeed like the marble-wrapped foyer of an expensive but slightly seedy hotel. And WOH most definitely resides in a musical penthouse, peering out and down on the rest of the world with a slightly jaded but still piercing gaze! Wild Swan sends haunting slivers of muted anguish down my spine every time I listen to it - even after 16 long years. But OASTN.....

From: Chris Date: August 26, 2004 at 20:08
I love this album. From the cracking opener to the epic Don't Wake The Lion it is a smoking piece of work! By the way, does anyone what the Pray For The Day (best song on the album IMHO) lyrics are all about?

From: illimey Date: August 27, 2004 at 5:01
Chris: Tony Clarkin has said that Pray For the Day is about the Berlin Wall... "Pray for the day this city's wall - concrete for chains - will crumble and fall. Pray for the day." Great song, yes - but personally I don't think it's better than Wild Swan or Don't Wake the Lion! New album out on Monday!!!!

From: Wotty Date: August 28, 2004 at 15:32
Hi illimey, correct about the Berlin wall, howeverI think Wild Swan is a stronger track than LION...

From: Carlos D mIGUEL Date: September 17, 2004 at 5:45

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: January 27, 2005 at 21:57

From: PAUL Date: September 6, 2005 at 11:36
Hello guys!I've to say that this is one of the best releases from England.AORish production, perfect musicians, outstanding songwriting and one of the best duet in all history of rock music (Tony&Bob).Just listen to "don't wake the lion" and you'll understnd what i mean.An epic anthem, comparable only with "stargazer"(Rainbow) and "telegram"(Nazareth). The other songs are at the same level, but this is the highlight of the album.Don't miss it,cause it's 100 times better than Dare!Where's AOR freaky?

From: AOR freaky Date: September 9, 2005 at 4:55
Hi PAUL : it's not difficult to agree with you ! I LOVE Magnum and IMO they never released a bad album ! You can buy all Magnum albums without listening. They always offer quality. And indeed, they are not 100 times better than Dare, but 100000000 times, mate ! Look at their whole career. Maybe the most underrated and best kept 'secret' from Britain ! GREAT BAND ! I've not praisen 'em enough here, but look at melodicrock.com and other sites, you'll see my rave reviews about 'em ! Best, mate.

From: pompeius Date: November 28, 2005 at 2:58
I have to agree with Jimbo and dissent. This one sounds conciously "americanized" to me. I guess I prefer the pompier earlier efforts to the AOR approach, but that's just me. Older Magnum seemed to have a little more of the prog influence, not a huge change, but one that disappointed me.

From: pompeius Date: December 4, 2005 at 21:23
However though, after reading all the raves, I decided to dig it out and spin it again. Y'know, it ain't half bad. I still say that it moves a little toward a formulaic Journey sound, but mostly just on the two "love" songs. And who could blame this great band for trying to grab some well deserved american cash? Otherwise it's excellent. I guess I was disappointed because I expect so much from Magnum. Thanks for talking me into a nice re-discovery!

From: thiago Date: January 2, 2006 at 11:22
A good album (the previous is better), with the great song "Pray for the Day". Pure AOR.

From: Remastered Reason Date: February 2, 2006 at 21:18
An AOR Masterpiece. The vibe the band captures on this album is incredible. Not sure many have done it better than this. Essential listening.

From: Pablo UK Date: April 29, 2006 at 17:45
Absolutely the best Magnum album in the entire catalogue!! Not to say that all the others are below par, but this one has the edge. Best track? Can't decide between "Days of No Trust", "Wild Swan", "Start Talking Love" or Don't Wake The Lion". <> Yeah...preach it Bob!!

From: aorteto Date: November 15, 2006 at 17:11
An all time classic in my books. Only one complain, just 9 songs. 8 are amazing melodic rock/ aor classics, except ONE STEP AWAY, wich is just very good. I love it !!!!!!!!!!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: November 27, 2006 at 20:36
Superb album by a veteran band.I had the opportunity to see them live on this tour and it was amazing.Great songs, great production."Days of no trust","It must have been love","Start talking love","Different worlds" and so on...80's rules!.

From: lalorock Date: June 30, 2007 at 16:44

Wings Of Heaven' is definitley The monster in the Magnum Arsenal. The biggest, slickest produced album in their catologue,(although strangely enough, not my total favourite) and once again a brilliant set of songs, highlighted by 'Days Of No Trust','Start Taliking Love' and the epic 10 minute 'Don't Wake The Lion'. The band were playing arenas all over the world (a some great shows they put on aswell) and there seemed to be no stopping them at this stage.

From: pibe Date: January 19, 2011 at 6:15

From: AORvault Date: June 7, 2011 at 4:53
A great album that is let down, as many a Magnum album, by the production that sounds so sterile and artificial. Still one of the top 3 Magnum albums.

From: rbrigade Date: August 15, 2013 at 5:16
Good but somehow boring, never really got into it. I seem to like it one day and the next it just makes no impact at all.

From: petermexico13 Date: May 3, 2016 at 17:18

From: hair metal again Date: October 9, 2018 at 5:44
very good release once again ,but not as good as their previous ones ,despite the superb production and the smooth vibe that is offered here!imho the songs should have been better especially when many bands at the time were writing big songs!dont get me wrong all the songs are remarkable ,but can t find any big ones here!
