There's some beautiful intricate work here. It's great to see Magnum back on form after so many years of absence. This is refreshing and modern in it's outlook. If you like 'Storyteller's Night' it might not be quite what you are looking for, but if you are prepared to accept that Magnum have moved with the times, then you will love this. I know that I do...

no esta mal, pero pa mi gusto, muy lejos d la grandilocuencia d WINGS OF HEAVEN o del genial GOODNIGHT L.A.

From: Scandinavia Date: December 23, 2003 at 19:16
What do they sound like nowadays??? Still like in the 80s???

From: Alister Hill Date: January 28, 2004 at 4:33
Genius returned! Cries out for some proper drumming, though. Wonderful to hear that Harry James has provided the drums for 'Brand New Morning', Magnum's next album due in May this year! Anyway, BOL blows everything released by Magnum/Hard Rain since WOH right out of the water - despite the synthetic drums. This is certainly a different Magnum to the OASTN or WOH era band, but to my ears they have at last find an identity to hold on to rather than a disguise to wear (Goodnight LA, Rock Art).

From: Gareth Vickers Date: January 29, 2004 at 19:40
Disappointing after such a wait. Even further from the great magnumesque sounds of the 80's.

From: illimey Date: January 30, 2004 at 6:57
Gareth - you are not alone in finding BOL disappointing, and I can certainly agree that it is a different sounding band than from the OASTN, Vigilante and WOH era, however I honestly think that BOL was a genuine return to form for TC both musically and lyrically after the nightmare that was Rock Art and Hard Rain. The songs on BOL are all very strong and compositionally interesting, the playing is great, Bob sounds awesome... all that is missing is decent production (sorry Tony) and drumming.

From: AORster Date: April 2, 2004 at 14:15
They're back and they're good! Tony exercises his "Hard Rain" demons on a couple of tracks but it's way above Rock Art in quality and has some really good tracks on it. Saw the band at Sweden Rock Festival in 2002 and they stole the day and maybe the whole festival with a blistering performance and "newbies" Al & Harry where great. Caught them again at The London Astoria in December 2002 together with wife and teenagers and where again "blown away" by them, .... to be continued!

From: AORster Date: April 2, 2004 at 14:52
Bob's tears during "The Lighs Burned Out" brought tears to my eyes too. Please God(if there is one), don't ever let this band go away again! NEW album "Brand New Morning" will be released on August 26th 2004!

From: Tarm Date: August 18, 2004 at 1:29
I feel I must agree about the above posters in that Magnum is lacking a good drummer nowadays.I have this theory that truly great bands always have a good drummer that can cary the melodies.Like the original Magnum drummer (Forgotten his name.Blasphemy! ). Otherwise this album is a return to theyr true standard. The future is looking up!

From: illimey Date: August 19, 2004 at 0:07
Tarm - your wishes have come true! For some time now, Thunder drummer Harry James has been pounding the skins with Magnum and he was fully involved in the recording of the new album 'Brand New Morning' which is released in 12 days time! Almost every review so far says it is Magnum's best since OASTN and WOH! The future is not just looking up, it's looking up, up and away! To infinity and beyond!! I believe that the original Magnum drummer was Kex Gorin. Hope this is helpful. KYNLB!

From: illimey Date: August 24, 2004 at 6:17
So - what's the deal here? Is this album a sure sign that Magnum are embracing their true identity again rather than continuing to play 'dress-up' like they did with Goodnight LA (great album regardless), Rock Art (ouch) and Hard Rain (cringe)? Or is it another OKish but ultimately forgetable set of second rate Clarkin tunes? Well, IMO two things leap out of this album if given the chance - sparkling performances and recaptured 'Magnum' vitality. Look beyond the poor production & synth drums....

OK AORFreaky-today I am asking your opinion-what do you think of these guys? Esp the new album "Breath of Life" If you haven't heard it yet you can find it at the link i posted on the Jeff Scott Soto page. I'm pretty much a newcomer to this band except for their 2nd cd and i just got my hands on the new one which for some reason reminds me of Purple.

From: Dean Date: August 25, 2004 at 14:20

good release for MAGNUM in thenew millenium and somehow they seem to try to make their sound &musicianship more complicated ,something like later TOTO maybe but keeping also their trademark!not their best ,but some good moments like "cry","this heart" and "dream about you"!ok i guess
