Right down to the cover, I always thought this was Toto's attempt at trying to repeat the glories of "Toto IV". "Pamela" is like "Rosanna", "Mushanga" is like "Africa" and so on. Well, it didn't work... which isn't to say this CD is bad. On the contrary, it's quite good. "Stay Away" and "Only the Children" are great rockin' numbers, with the usual ballad fare like "Anna". (By the way, is there any girl whose name Toto HASN'T written a song about??!!)

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: July 25, 2002 at 4:36

From: javier Date: October 24, 2002 at 15:12

From: robert Date: October 24, 2002 at 17:38

From: Scandinavia Date: June 28, 2003 at 17:08
Excellent piece of Rock history! Very polished and melodic. My faves: "Pamela", "Only The children", "Straight for the Heart", & "Stop Loving You"...Always a pleasure listening to this album!

From: Besserwisser Date: August 10, 2003 at 13:57
Koogles is saying above "By the way, is there any girl whose name Toto HASN'T written a song about??!!) ". There are about 1,500 girl names and they have done only 3-4 songs with female names. To answer your question...Yes, there are girl names that Toto hasn't written a song about...

From: D.C. Date: December 15, 2003 at 15:31
why is,nt JOSEPH WILLIAMS listed as lead singer?

From: wicked man Date: May 13, 2004 at 5:44
"Mushanga" is my favorite song here, great vibe reminds me of "Africa" but a bit less commercial ... this is by far my favorite album from them, J. Williams is a great singer (even if that one on "Isolation" was simply the BEST singer they had) all the songs are pretty good. I don't like the sounds of guitar in this album though..

From: marcelo arg. Date: July 2, 2004 at 18:04

From: Joan Date: July 26, 2004 at 18:09

From: Chevalier Date: August 17, 2004 at 10:52
As Joan says :La obra maestra de Toto,possibly...best performance...best prduction.Great singles and great lyrics.Porcaro was on the top during those days. He's just incredible and gave to the songs definitely something more. These Chains,Pamela,Mushanga,Home of the brave,Only the childred. The's not a weak song on this one.A must.

From: TIM (2) Date: August 17, 2004 at 12:36
Probably my 2nd favourite Toto release, behind "IV", with Joseph Williams on mighty form yet again. A more consistent release than "Farrenheit" for me, although the production is a little thin. "Only the Children" is an AOR gem, and the Paich/Williams duet "Home of the Brave" would've sounded at home on "IV". Yet again Toto didn't make best use of a world class vocalist, as Williams sits aside and up pops Lukather yet again on a few tracks (and sounds terrible on "Anna"). 9/10.

From: Wotty Date: August 17, 2004 at 13:14
To Tim[2],you definitely know your TOTO,RESPECT....But yourself and other contributors to the debate really are giving ISOLATION the cold shoulder.WHY? I dont understand....

From: TIM (2) Date: August 17, 2004 at 14:00
Hey Wotty, possibly I just played "How Does It Feel" a lot without really getting into the rest of it. I'll play it again tonight and see if my opinion has changed...

From: krister Date: February 18, 2005 at 17:10
Hey! Whats wrong here?? What happened to Joseph Willimas listed as lead vocal on this great album??

From: Swazi Date: November 30, 2005 at 16:52
What is going on with the rating ?? 9.95 out of 10 with 1.410 ratings ?? I don't buy this !!

From: bateman Date: December 1, 2005 at 2:21
If any Toto buy this one. It's filled with great songs from start to finish -especially "Home of the brave"- and presents Joseph WIlliams at his peak. Production sounds a little bit dated by now, but it's still a great melodic rock piece anyway! Remaster, please!

From: MikeTuinstra Date: March 28, 2006 at 13:54
This is one of the best AOR albums ever if not the best! And certainly Toto's best album and line-up with Joseph Williams on volcals. The album is filled with great catchy songs and good production. That production isn't even dated anymore since music is about to return to the 80's. You can compare these years starting in 2005 easily with 1985 - 1990. This is the music of the future! Be sure to also check out their new album Falling In Between which has a lot in common with The Seventh One.

From: DANTE Date: February 11, 2007 at 9:52
SUAVE PERO IMPRESIONANTE. UN DISCO BUENO Y QUE DEJA HUELLA. PARA MI LA MEJOR CANCIÓN DE ESTE DISCO ES "STRAIGHT FOR THE HEART", UNA CANCION UNICA Y EXQUISITA.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 27, 2007 at 23:22
One of their best titles and i agree with many of the comments above...WHERE THE HELL IS JOSEPH WILLIANS IN THE LIST!!!.Anyway all songs are powerful yet smooth."Pamela","Mushanga","A thousand years"(great ballad)and so on makes this album worth buying.10/10

From: Carlos A. Date: May 2, 2007 at 11:35

From: rick kerch vzla Date: May 6, 2007 at 15:33

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: August 18, 2007 at 20:54
AWESOME AOR!! MAGISTRAL!!

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: August 18, 2007 at 20:58

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: August 18, 2007 at 21:02

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: August 18, 2007 at 21:09
GENIAL--OBRA MAESTRA--DISCO 10!!

From: Whitesnake Date: August 22, 2007 at 8:49
This is Toto's last great album (and what a cd this is!!). Then they decided to go for the melodic hard rock, and the show was over! In my opinion each album (except "Isolation", I don't like the voice on that one) up to this record was good. This is my favourite after "Turn Back".

From: lalorock Date: November 1, 2007 at 15:50
Tambien es mi disco favorito de TOTO,los temas son una oda al mejor AOR por su calidad, instrumentación y melodías perfectas, album clásico cuyas canciones te hacen llegar al clímax auditivo,Straight for the heart,Pamela, stop loving you,Only the children,Home of the brave,...todas excelentes,y pensar que los ví en vivo, gran experiencia para toda la vida de una de las bandas clásicas del AOR,10/10.

From: hernanHRM/AOR Date: December 11, 2007 at 22:32

From: DanDare Date: September 24, 2008 at 18:38
'Straight for the Heart' and 'Only the Children' are the best songs on an album where it's really hard to find a duffer. Look, at the end of the day these guys, Journey, Survivor, Boston, REO et al are the guys that introduced us all (well, us oldens) to this type of music, either through film soundtracks or the charts. they've earned their stripes and we should frankly be grateful that they even think about making music. If they wanted to make an album of fart noises we should say 'thank you very much'. Anything that the above mentioned release is ok by me, because without them we'd all be listening to dross. 95/100

From: kai-2 Date: September 24, 2008 at 19:17
I decided to buy this album after the comments posted here, as my first CD of Toto, and after listening to it, I got ambiguous opinions about it. In one hand, it´s a top-quality musical effort with great musicians, great vocalist and superb production. But in the other hand I found it too soft for me. I think this album must be labeled as a VERY lite AOR/soft rock/80s pop. The only rocking songs here are "Only The Children" and "Home Of The Brave". The rest, in my opinion, are brilliantly executed soft rock songs. Ok, I must admit that perhaps I started with the wrong one, so I´m looking for another Toto album.

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: September 26, 2008 at 18:34
Hey kai-2 you're looking for another Toto album? is very easy you need the best "Isolation" from 1984 if you need energy and power for your Soul & Heart then listen to "Angel Don't Cry & Stranger In Town" 2 of the best AOR songs.

From: kai-2 Date: September 27, 2008 at 13:10
Thanks Rafo Phoenix! I´ll check out for "Isolation".

From: aorfan700 Date: October 25, 2008 at 10:44
I think it's a bit more than 3 or 4 toto songs with girls names .... Anna, Lea, Rosanna, Melanie, Holyanna, Pamela, Lorraine..... I'm sure I'm forgetting some. Anyway, this, along with past to present are the two most essential toto cd albums of all for me. This one is not totally perfect but it's close and far better than Fahrenheit of 86

From: MikeTuinstra Date: March 11, 2010 at 13:59
For me this release is all included. AOR is meant to be the total result of a powerful, rocking instrumental blend. And by those standards this CD defines it. Rather than trying to fit a certain sound the band focuses on musical perfection without limitations. Sky's the limit: good music from start to finish.

From: Wachen Date: June 2, 2010 at 15:20
Best album together with "Isolation"!

From: halfordhughes Date: April 22, 2011 at 0:46
this is another great album from toto!!! toto (1978) and toto IV (1982) and this album is my best 3!

From: aTomiK Date: October 5, 2011 at 6:20
Fantastic cd! Just listened it again and everything is pure gold except "Stay Away" which should have stayed away from this album. Can´t understand why Joseph Williams is missing both this and Fahrenheit personnel lists...

From: ShadowAngel Date: March 23, 2013 at 14:58
After the boring Isolation it seems they decided to change their sound. It's more classic TOTO in the style of their debut album with a bit IV and Isolation mixed into it. Mushanga is clearly "inspired" by Africa and Jeffs groove is awesome. The four songs i always liked most are Home of the Brave (completely awesome), Straight for the Heart, Only the Children and A Thousand Years but really there isn't a weak song on this album (There would but thankfully they decided not to include the song The Seventh One ) It's their best 80's album i think, slightly before Isolation.

From: MysticHealer Date: March 24, 2013 at 8:27
Isolation boring?? What? Are you for real? It is anything but boring. 'Isolation' is a great piece of work and it certainly is NOT boring.

From: 123charpenay Date: March 24, 2013 at 15:22
toto is a legend ok.i ve seen this band many times in concert in lyon (france) always good memories.execept the last time it was a nightmare.i ve the feeling to see an american variety band.3 songs and a keyboard solo (8 minutes) 3 songs and a drum solo (8 minutes) 3 songs and and steve lukater who plays alone acoustic guitars (10 minutes) i ve said to my wife .STOP.60 euro (80 dollars) to see that shit. STOP for me toto is finish.sorry melanie "shadowangel" but for me now toto is for people who wants fun with american variety.

From: ShadowAngel Date: March 25, 2013 at 22:12
@MysticHealer I certainly fucked that one up I meant Fahrenheit not Isolation. As i said on that album: Isolation is awesome, no doubt about that. @123charpeny I think that those Solo Spots can be annoying (best example are those horrible Drum Solos from Matt Sorum during the Illusion Tour of Guns n' Roses) but with TOTO it's more like a talent showcase, they are awesome on their instruments and they incorporate some songs, structures in their Solos. It's annoying when the band only plays 45-80 minutes and fill that up with Solos (like every year at Sweden Rock Festival so many bands do) but Toto is one of the few bands i can enjoy the Solos. And 60€? For Toto? Even during their 25th Anniversary Tour they only charged 35€ at the most here in Munich in the Olympiahalle (and that and the Olympic stadium are the most expensive concert places here, i mean Iron Maiden takes 60€ for a concert in the Olympiahalle but TOTO? Never seen that and after 2007 the tickets got even cheaper.

From: hair metal again Date: February 19, 2015 at 9:59
superb release by TOTO once again in their own unique way ,combining elemens of many music genres!Joseph sounds awesome and the band is in great form!the production is very polished and commercial and the songwriting of the highest level!"pamela","anna","home of the brave" and "these chains " are the highlights of The Seventh One which is one of my TOTO favs

From: Macca Date: May 22, 2022 at 12:52
this is in the top 3 Toto albums Order 1 Isolation 2 Farenheit 3 The 7th One To be fair..it was hard to split Farenheit and The 7th One Fergie is totally supreme on Isolation... These 3 albums represent Totos true AOR albums during that golden time for music..IV is of course the celebrated album....but a little too smooth for me !! Williams is a star... still singing well in 2022... Loved the look of the band during this period too.... ,Long mullets.....
