After almost turning Toto into DeBarge, Jean-Michael "Tinkerbell" Byron was unceremoniously ousted. "Kingdom of Desire" is perhaps an over-reaction to the s(l)ickness of Toto's previous 3 albums. Lukather's vocals are sandpapery and some of the songs drag on pointlessly. Still, some good moments, on what I would call Toto's darkest album.

One of their most challenging albums.I am sick to death of peopple complaining about Toto's 90s albums (songs are too long,it's too dark, its not top 40 etc.).Give me a break. They do that stuff well, but they also do heavier, more experimental music as this album shows. The instrumental interplay between David Paich's keys and Steve Lukather's axe is a joy to behold, and the epic songs on display here are driven as forcefully as ever by the tight rhythm section of Mike and Jeff Porcaro.Great stuff.

Vaya tela DON'T CHAIN MY HEART!!!

Heaviest Toto-album, without a doubt. Gypsy Train, Never Enough and the titletrack are pure hardrock played by the best musicians on the earth. Last album with Jeff Porcaro.

Why wasn't this album a mega-hit. On the rise of Alternative music, just when 90's pop had fizzled out, Toto brings us a hard rock raw edgy album. There is no "metal" or headbangers songs, that Grunge was combatting. This album deserved a spot at the top. Paich trades his keys for a hammond and the album is Toto's BEST!

I dislike this album immensely. Granted they wanted a change of style to a darker and more experimental sound (at the same time retaining those sugary ballads, just in case they fluke another hit), but it wasn't to my liking at all. Vocally this is pretty weak, and "The Other Side" and "2 Hearts" are probably the only tracks I've played more than once. If they want to play 6-minute bluesy hard rock dirges then at least change the band name. This is dull. 4/10.

Hmm, never commented on this. This is about the only Toto release I can listen to a few songs off. I think the tracks I liked were 'How many times' and 'Two hearts' and maybe 'Wings of time'? Either way, whatever I liked off this only had an enjoyment factor for a very short time. Soon enough, the whole album combined as one giant boring mess. Whilst this is my fave Toto release, I'd still not recommend it. Countless filler, and a few decent tracks IMO.

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: August 20, 2007 at 21:27

Man,this is Toto as it's best!!.Bluesy,Rockin',heavy but ALWAYS melodic and musical as only TOTO can deliver!.The guitar work from Luke is impressive and it also contais the best Toto ballad EVER (IMHO) :"TWO HEARTS.Other highlights includes "How Many Times"(Can anybody explain Jeff's fills during the solo?!),"The Other Side","Only You","Don't Chain My Heart" and one of the best instrumental tracks ever "Jake To The Bone"(Every serious musician should listen to this track).Jeff's playing here is amazing, what a way 2 say goodbye.RIP Jeff.

A more rock oriented album but great!!!..it doesn't lose the essence of the band at all...well Toto is the kind of band that has tried from rock to AOR and fusion through out the years...best shots for me are "Don't Chain My Heart","Never Enough","How Many Times","Wings Of Time" & "Only You"(nice)...Steve took all the vocal duties as the lead one...recommended album...85/100

Now this album came as a shocker back then i thought i got the wrong CD and there's another TOTO around. Gypsy Train sounds nothing like TOTO. Luke takes over and the band turns hard rock with a dark vibe. That happy Love Ballad days are over as shown with Don't Chain my Heart. It's my favourite TOTO album there are so many awesome songs. The title track is amazing

From: hair metal again Date: March 13, 2015 at 4:39
superb release by TOTO and probably the best Lukather work ever listened to!flawless ,unique with strong vibe, TOTO prove that they can explore anything they want without losing their identity!essential
