This was straight out of Toto's "progressive" period. I don't catch myself listening to this one much, even though "Hydra" is an interesting piece. |

Another misfire for this band. "99" is a great pop song. The rest finds them noodling around into progressive jazz. |

Classic early Toto.Like any band their first albuns helped them to better define and mold their signature sound.Pretty mature,at same time experimental, you can clearly take notice pseudo-prog,modern jazzistic-fusion,toghether with commercial rock of late 70`s influences! Some classic hybrid songs like Hydra, plus some radio-friendly tunes as "99"!!With no shadow of a doubt this is some of the embryos of what 80`s contemporary rock would become!81 out of 10.A must have between Toto entusiasts! |

From: Zlatan | Date: January 8, 2004 at 12:06 |
Darker than the debut, also rockier and more progressive. I don't think anyone would guess the Titlesong is theirs. |

I bought this on cassette back in 1980. I enjoyed it. NTV studios back in Newfoundland made it's own video for "99" in those days, dedicated to Wayne Gretzky. |

I wouldn't call it progressive. Not even with the " ".I wouldn't say Hydra is an interisting piece cause that would be just fool to me.Amazing album.Great songs.Toto start here what they will do during their best years.Definitely something u can't miss have in your collection. |

St. George and the Dragon. Es otra pedazo d Joya. |

Buenisimo! 99 - Es mi Favorita, una Gozada! Impresionante DAVID PAICH!! Lorraine - Con un royo mas progresivo q sube y baja d intensidad.. All Us Boys - Incluso con tokes New Wave, ademas d los progres...

George and the Dragon" ufff! 9/10 |

Bueno, aqui pienso explayarme jeje.

This is great!.Luke's riff on the title-track is mindblowing.Maybe the album was a little complex for the ones who wanted to hear something like "I'll Suplly The Love",but Hydra delivers some progressive combinations. But "99" is a great poppy love song,"All Us Boys" show that they can just rock out and have fun and on "Mama", Kimball proves that he was THE voice of toto during that era. Other highlights : "St.George and The Dragon","White Sister". |

excellent release by TOTO back in 79 with a very "alive" sound and great vibe!all the songs are fine and especially "99","hydra" and "a secret love"!the musicianship is exceptional and i consider this one a must have! |

Somehow this album seems without direction. The first two songs make it seem like it will be a concept album with a story but that is immediately dropped. Hydra is a great song, so is St. George and the Dragon. 99 was always a weird song and if you don't know that THX movie (and who does?) the lyrics won't make much sense. Then they start to rock out. Lorraine follows the same formula as Angela from the debut. White Sister and All Us Boys work better live as proven by countless Bootlegs but they are fun songs. Secret Love was always one of my most disliked TOTO songs. It just sounds bad. They should've gone with Tale of a Man instead. It's a good album, but with 99 as a Single and a bit of a misleading direction it's no wonder it wasn't really successful. |

Lovely album with a great "Heavy Metal" front cover but don't judge it by it :-D ...the Record instead displays a collection of good melodic songs typical of the nature of the band.My fave ones are # 1,2,3(nice),4 & 7...enjoyable stuff...85/100 |
