If you own one Donnas album, this is the one to get. Part punk, but mostly hard rock. It's fast and furious and full of catchy melodies. Best tracks are I Don't Want to Know, Fall Behind Me, and especially The Gold Medal and It Takes One to Know One. It's a crying shame more people aren't aware of The Donnas and this, their best album. Rating B. |

I think a lot of people were aware of the Donnas, particularly in the late '90's. The thing was, they were marketed to more of a punk and alternative audience, and when they did Crue and Priest covers, it was seen as kitschy and "ironic." Rolling Stone wrote about them favorably and often for a while back there, and there was quite a bit of buzz surrounding them. And I think people like us probably saw them as gimmicky and not "serious," without having heard the music. Which, looking back, really shouldn't have bothered us as much as it did. |
