This was recorded in 1992, but not released until a few years ago. Frank C. Starr once again nearly scuttled the band by going to jail for a year just when Nobody Said It Was Easy was making some headway, so Haggis and Dave Lizmi recorded this with a new lineup, most importantly a new singer. The result is much more southern-rock than NSIWE, and even Gettin' Pretty Good At Barely Gettin' By. I mean, this is far, far more Skynyrd/Black Crowes than AC/DC. Lots of lazy, lollygaggin' jams, with mildly-distorted guitars and greasy soloing. It's not bad, but not a lot of it stands out either, kinda like a whole album of "Tired Wings," 'I Need A Thrill" and "livin' These Blues," and there's absolutely nothing like "Let It Rock" or 'Lookin' For Trouble." It ends up being more mood music than anything else. A cool vibe, but not many memorable songs. |
