The Def Lep PR hype machine has begun, as I read a article with the band calling this S/T album the best Leps release in 30 years. That's not too bold of a statement as that time frame puts them smack dab in the Adrenalize (1992)era, with my most hated DL song of all time " Let's get rocked". Joe Elliott has always proclaimed "the band will never be a nostalgia act," so why did the band do a album in Vegas (lounge act headquarters) Viva! Hysteria (2013) doing the entire Hysteria album? Multiple tracks on this one sound like Hysteria era B sides that they saved for a rainy day. The opening track wreaks of the overly processed pour some sugar-esque style. This album get's better at the midpoint and ends on a highlight as "Wings of an Angel" is one of the better tracks. Don't get me wrong this is light years better than "Sparkle Lounge"( more nostalgia act references) 7 years ago, but it's a far cry from the High N Dry/ Pyro era. It's better to burn out than to fade away.

I have been listening to this all day today and must admit it's growing on me. The last three tunes are the best in my opinion. The lyrics to "Man Enough" are just weird. All in all, I think this is a good album for the Lepp's. We have to recognize this is a band that will never be the hard rockers of their youth, but to note they have not totally abandoned their roots. Worth a spin...

Along with Megadeth, Def Leppard might be the best band at walking the razor's edge when it comes to the hype machine: they hint to the long-suffering fans that their latest album has at least something in common with the classics that made them stars in the first place, without actually lying. "It has the energy of our old material," they might say, or "the songs embody the spirit of our early work." Stuff you can't really quantify. It happened 16 years ago with Euphoria ("If you liked Hysteria, you're going to love their latest album"--I have this on a tape somewhere). Incidentally, Euphoria was the last Def Leppard album I actually bought, although I did download (and quickly delete) Mirror Ball. In 2015, there's just way too much music out there to be very interested in new Def Leppard anymore.

While certainly no instant classic, and nowhere near as good as the likes of Hysteria or Pyromania, this is still a really good album. I never really found Sparkle Lounge or X to be that good to be honest, but this one hooked me straight away. The lead single is a bit misleading though as it seemed to indicate a return to the classic Hysteria sound, but the album is actually a mixed bag of styles. As expected from Lepp, there are no out and out balls to the wall rockers, but there is a nice mix of their usual mid tempo rockers and ballads (none of which are syrupy love songs). I really liked Let's go when I first heard it, but thought the chorus was very weak, but after listening to the album a few times, even the chorus has grown on me. Dangerous is a great song, and possibly my favourite on the album. Man enough has a "Another one bites the dust" vibe to it, and while unusual, is a really good song.We belong is a mid tempo ballad that features all members on vocals.

The Classic rock fan pack version features two bonus tracks. A pointless Radio edit of Let's go and an alternate vocal take of We belong, which would please people who like the song, but would prefer to hear just Joe singing it.

their best realise since "euphoria".superb come back from the masters of pure hard f m.the production is absoluty perfect.the sound is clear and powerfull.like don dokken or jeff scott soto the voice of joe elliot have changed with time.it s not a problem cause joe stay an excellent singer.the japan import have no interest cause the bonus track is the demo version of track 12 "last dance".some fillers at the end of the record:tracks 9.12.14 and 15.but the rest ?wow the traditional trademarks of def leppard are present.what pleasure!!!tracks 2.6.8.and 10 are super hard rock songs.track 1 remind me the legendary "hysteria".the others tracks are more f m and are irresistibles with very catchy choruses.the ice on the cake is "man enough" track 3.this song is a hit with an exceptional disco rhythm.i m agree with cc this song reminds me "another one bites the dust" from queen.this song deserve to break the charts all over the world!!!!!!!!

Following CC's comment a bit, on the song "We Belong," I really enjoyed how everyone had a vocal part and thought Viv's vocal was particularly good. How interesting it might be if they incorporated more individual vocal parts to future songs. Would certainly help to diversify their sound.

Def Leppard has returned in almost perfect form with this release. Sure there is a filler here or there...far from being perfect, but really close. Leppards last studio release had elements of being a great album - but fell short. This album really gives fans a lot of what they have been wanting but hasn't fully received in the last 3 studio albums. A collection of songs that covers their whole career musically without straying off the beaten path. Filler tracks that just doesn't work: #5 & 14...not to mention that "Wings of an Angel" (#13) should have been the closing track...monster song! Plus, "Let's Go" (#1) seems like it too slow, speeding it up by 10% makes it sound more energetic and better. HIGHLIGHT TRACKS: #2,3,4,8,9,10,12,13. MY RATING: 95/100

I love that we can all share our opinions here, and for the most part be cool about it. And I realize a lot of our friends are not native English speakers. But man, sometimes I just gotta shake my head. "Far from being perfect, but really close?" What does that mean, exactly? It can't be both things at the same time.

This album is not too bad. It's probably the best we will ever get again from Def Leppard. It's impossible for them to re-create the greatness of their early stuff since Steve Clark is gone. But, this is probably their best album without him.
