| As the name suggests, this EP is pure country, but not the cuddly, G-rated kind your sister-in-law listens to. There's only a splash of vestigial rock here, more in spirit than in sound. "I'm a son of the bourbon, a son of a bitch," Charlie Starr sings on th eopening track, "I'm a dyin' breed of rock 'n' roll left ass-up in a ditch." The playing is impeccable, the vocals are raspy but tuneful, and the melodies will stick in your head for a week. Best songs for me are "Son Of The Bourbon," which ends with a sudden, shockingly clear harmony, and "Lesson In A Bottle," a slow, sweet tale of apocalyptic drinking. "The Only Thing She Left Behind" is a lo-fi novelty, and the clean version of "Living Hell" is actually better than the dirty one.
