If you notice that a particular China CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Heavy Harmonies as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Not too bad, this one. Although it is not the style of the melodic rock that made China so popular with many fans of their first two albums, it's not bad either. A couple of down-tuned guitars, a big dip in quality halfway through and not taking full advantage of St Michaels' great voice are the negative aspects here. On a positive note, the first 4 songs are all good, heavy rockers. Kind of like a slightly more modern sounding Shakra or heavier Gotthard maybe? I think all 4 songs are good and then 'Lonely Rider' is the most commercial rocker on here and is very nice. 'Gates of heaven' is also a nice big ballad. So the first half is all good, solid stuff. What happens next is my major issue with this CD. 'On my way' and 'Deadly sweet' are really bad fillers, with the very poor/below average 'Stay' wedged inbetween. The last 3 songs aren't as bad as those 3, but they really don't pick up the quality again and the second half of the album ends up being quite poor. Good first half though. |

Baring a mind the magical China with their first 3 albums, melodic rock at its peak, this a huge let down for me. They are going for a far more darker and modern sound, trying 2 sound like Geoff said Shakrish. Each 2 his own but its not my cup of tea at all and i dont think either they will gain new followers either with this direction. Other bands do that a lot better. Lonely Rocker is a great commercial rocker but Best song on the album and comes closes to the China as i loved it is song 11 Right here, Right now, i would have loved to hear an entire album in the same style as this little gem of a song. But 2 songs dont cut it for me tho |

Eric St Michaels the singer of the band's best album "Sign In The Sky" of 1989 returned after so many years disconnected from the band...a modern rock album, quite catchy, not bad IMO...in fact is pretty interesting as most of the songs could easily be tagged as "hit singles" and will get into the new generation of "rockers" kinda well..."Hey Yo" & "Lonely Rider" are the ones i liked the most...tracks 1,6(nice softy),7,8(nice),9 & 12 are some other goodie ones...79/100 |
