|Second albums a charm. A good rockin' affair and the rest is history. Good golly what an album. Still liek the first the most, but gee this is good.

|Oddly enough not nearly my favorite album of theirs but this just came out at the perfect time and the perfect place for them. Still a GREAT 80's melodic rock album and these guys always had a great mixture of heaviness and melody and it shows on this album. While not my favorite I am smart enough to know that without this gem I might not have had the luxury of enjoying their later cd's.

|"When You Close Your Eyes" sounds like the best .38 Special song that .38 Special never recorded. What a tune! And then there's "Sister Christian" and "You Can Still Rock in America" which makes me think that, even though this wasn't their most consistent release ("Man in Motion" wins that ribbon), it does contain their 3 best songs.
||Date: October 25, 2002 at 12:40|
|How many times can one stand hearing casual listeners state, "I'm only familiar with Sister Christian"? While that song brought them fame, it also cursed them as "balladeers" forever, which is unjust. Brad Gillis is way underrated for no reason other than, "Oh, yeah. The Sister Christian guy." Passion Play and Rumours In The Air are far superior tracks, but "the hit single" is always synomymous with their name, which is a shame because they have much more to offer than maudlin ballads.

|NOW. 20 years after this release, I still cant figure out if I like this band or hate them. I have all their releases, but apart from their first release, I think there are too many ballads, too many harmonies, and too much comercialism in this band. Still, they have their moments.
||Date: February 28, 2003 at 17:35|
|HEY GREATDANE...YOU HAVE ALL THEIR RELEASES.GUESS WHAT.YOU ARE A FAN!!!(you should be ashamed)

|Why should I be ashamed.??? As I write, they have their moments. All releases are originals. NOT cd´rs. So wgy should I be ashamed. Im a collector, and these musicians are some of the finest. Im NOT a fan, C O L L E C T O R....Get it Vince. Comment on the music instead of making on my 'account'

|my favorite night ranger cd, you can still rock in america is awsome, great rock anthem, and sister chritian is okay.

|I've loved this album ever since it first came out. True, it's a lighter affair than DAWN PATROL... but what a batch of songs! I think the power of the other songs on the album got overshadowed by the runaway success of "Sister Christian". "When You Close Your Eyes" is the best song on the album, but all the songs are winners in their own right.
||Date: September 18, 2003 at 17:02|
|"Sister Christian ohh your time has come..." I know it's their big hit but I just love that song...
||Date: October 21, 2003 at 11:26|
|We'd never heard of Night Ranger commercially out here, so over-familiarity with Sister Christian was never a concern when giving it a spin. It's a great ballad of its time, that's for sure, yet the rest of the album works it into its great consistency of tracks. Other standout tracks there are (When You Close Your Eyes is quintessential), but at no time does Night Ranger drop the ball.
||Date: November 14, 2003 at 18:13|
|Some great tunes on this one, but you can see the start of the big "pop metal" push creeping in. About 80% rockin', but 20% (about 3 tracks) of just BEGGING for a hit single. They got it with "Sister Christian" which sounds oddly out of place on this release. The band got their wish...a major hit single, and it took all the muscle out of the band after that. Downhill FAST after this release...

|Yep, not a bad record but it marked the beginning of the end for them. Still fun to listen to, just not as often as Dawn Patrol.
||Date: July 22, 2004 at 12:28|
|For my money, give me "Touch of Madness" off this record. I'll leave "Sister Christian" for the cliched "Best of..." collections.
||Date: July 23, 2004 at 16:49|
|Sister Christian did to Night Ranger the same thing that "Love will find a way" did to Saigon Kick-big hits but distanced themselves from the rockers. The thing is they were both great songs and helped round out two great bands. The choruses on this album are HUGE. While i still prefer Dawn Patrol this is still a great album.
||Date: July 23, 2004 at 17:49|
|Hey Dean, well said!! Like a lot of the great AOR bands in the 80s (REO, Foreigner, Journey, etc.) Night Ranger became known for their ballads moreso than the more uptempo rockin' tracks. Which is a shame because some really great stuff gets shoved aside or lost altogether due to some overplayed songs that even elderly Amish people know. Don't get me wrong: "Sister Christian" is a great and timeless song....but it doesn't have to automatically be their BEST song. But yeah, a great album!!
||Date: August 23, 2004 at 1:55|
|Great follow up album to Dawn Patrol, but yes they do start getting more into the ballads. "Sister Christian" lives as a timeless classic and in my eyes is the greatest power ballad ever written, but one must not forget that there are other songs on this album. We have an anthem with "(You Can Still) Rock In America" and other great songs such as "Rumours In The Air" "Touch Of Madness" "Passion Play" and "When You Close Your Eyes." I love the entire album regardless.

|I still play 'When you close your eyes' to this day. I was never the hugest Night Ranger fan but could always take something away from their CDs. This has some cool AOR tunes on it too.

|So if 'Dawn Patrol' was great throughout, they'll have used up all their good ideas, won't they..? Guess again - the dream-come-true goes on for fans of Hard Rock that (for once!) *isn't* dark and moody - instead it's EXCITING, FAST, UPLIFTING and a huge celebration of the greatest music in the world!! - - Rock In America, Close Your Eyes, Passion Play, Rumors in the Air... all fabulous. Yeah Baby, I Need a Touch of (Midnight) Madness too!!

|Album number 2 and a great follow up to the stunning 'Dawn Patrol'. Maybe not as quite as strong, and definately lighter, but still crammed to the max with sheer class. 'Sister Christian' is still a great ballad 20 years, on while 'You Can Still (Rock In America) & 'Why Does Love Have To Change' rock with the best of them.

|I got in one of those "HAVENT HEARD THIS IN A WHILE" moods and dug this baby out.It had been so long since I listen to it,it was like listening to it for the first time and this thing is filled with monster tunes.The one that I listened to twice was not one of the radio hits,but is was "WHY DOES LOVE HAVE TO CHANGE". Not sure I agree with 8.87 rating.I think it is more like 8.93

|Classic follow up album. Songs like 'Rumours in the air', 'Sister Christian' and 'When you close your eyes' still sound as fresh and exciting as they did over 20 yrs ago. I bought the vinyl album of this in Shades in London...happy days gone by!

|Hey people out there Do you consider bands like Styx or Journey heavy metal bands? No! right,this isn't metal either. An electric guitar doesn't make a band metal.Sorry, this is wimpy rock, or better said hard pop. You Can Still rock In America? What A Crap,the video makes me sick, even their most known song is a ballad! If you like this, that's Ok but don't get fooled, Night Ranger makes Winger seem the ultimate metal band. I don't mean to offend anybody.OK

|themartin, I think youve visited the wrong site if you want pure heavy metal. If you want to call this wimp-rock or AOR or whatever, that's fine. But Night Ranger have more musical & songwriting ability than almost every heavy metal band put together. Their most successful song may be a ballad, but why does that make them different from the likes of Cinderella, Aerosmith, Skid Row, G n' R, etc etc? Its the nature of rock/metal that the ballads will be the most appealing commercially.

|This is a very good record that might be classed as soft,but the songs rock harder then bands like Toto,Journey or Survivor.
||Date: February 23, 2008 at 13:48|
|claro que es un clasico temas como When You Close Your Eyes , Sister Christian ,You Can Still (Rock In America), temas de locura tocados infinidad de veces en la decada de los 80s, si es un clasico.

|Great follow up after their debut...plenty of successful tracks in here..all time classics such as "You Can Still(Rock In America)","Rumors In The Air" & "Sister Christian"...the whole album is a must to have to be honest and not only the 3 tracks i've just mentioned do the job..."Why Does Love Have To Change" & "Touch Of Madness" are brilliant tracks not to say that "Passion Play","When You Close Your Eyes" & "Chippin' Away" are my personal faves...PURE AOR!!!..."Let Him Run" ends the album as a very nice acoustic song...lovely indeed...almost if not close to perfection release ...95/100...5 incredible musicians in here...get it!!!.
||Date: December 16, 2010 at 18:37|
|"You Can Still Rock in America" just rips! On a side note, in concert I loved it when Damn Yankees also did this song. They blended it with Styx's "Renegade" and the Nuge's "Cat Scratch." Really cool.
||Date: December 23, 2010 at 11:54|
|Yeah. One of the best AOR albums ever. I'm quite surprised they changed their way on music direction with this album but very pleased at the same time cause I love AOR music and can't agree it's not powerful! Death metal or sth does not fill the clue of power! Chipping away!
||Date: February 27, 2011 at 17:21|
|This is a very satisfying album to which to listen. Completely filler free with timeless masterpieces.

|what a fantastic release by the RANGER back in 83!their sound was surely ahead of their time and the songs strong and melodic.the guitar work by Brad and Jeff is simply astonishing,and the result is a total hard rock masterpiece!highlights are "when you close your eyes" ,"passion play" and "sister christian".what a band!

|Night Ranger keep on doing their thing, mixingg the late '70's AOR sounds of, say, Boston, with an updated guitar tone and style. You could burn this onto the same CD with Dawn Patrol and it would be tough to tell where one album begins and the next starts. Midnight madness, despite its title, does seem just slightly less hard, or maybe that because it's dmoninated by the over-the-top melodrama of "Sister Christian," an early example of the peculiarly '80's strain of power ballad that would come to dominate the airwaves. Definitely heavier than Journey or Foreigner, but also perceptibly lighter rising stars like Dokken, Motley Crue or Ratt. Also lending to a feeling of safeness is the band's adherence to fairly vanilla subject matter for their lyrics rather than wallowing in decadence like the L.A. bands were doing. AOR stations didn't have to wait until 7:00 P.M. to play Night Ranger... They weere smooth enough to get daytime airplay, but still sounded pretty good blasting at high vol

|Great AOR/Hard Rock, totally disagree with my old comment, this is a CLASSIC! When You Close Your Eyes (Mega Hit) Sister Christian (Amazing) Why Does Love Have To Change (Hernan TOTALLY AGREE with you brother, possibly the best track & my Fav now in this classic album) Passion Play, Chippin' Away Un gran album y para 1983 donde recien empezaba lo mejor del AOR pues un total ganador, con el tiempo se hace mejor este album y muchos otros tambien, son como el vino se aprecia y tiene mas sabor con el paso del tiempo, 90/100.
