A very decent release by Kiss. The songs are very well performed and the vocals haven't deteriorated over the years at all. Thayer's playing is as close to Ace's as possible. Freak and The Devil is Me are my picks so far. |

Reviewing this album is almost pointless...you either told this band to kiss your ass a long time ago, or you enjoy the fact that they pretty much make the same album over and over again. Personally speaking, I enjoy the heavy, "Revenge"-style sound on several of these tracks, but think overall the catchiness factor is slightly lower than "Sonic Boom." I don't know if you can call this CD a monster...but I certainly wouldn't call it a tame little pussycat either. |

Gotta be honest with you, the Singer and Thayer tunes are my favorites on this one. |

Ah Kiss, it seems more likely each year that Monster will be the last studio album. Well, at least you went out on a high. It's a rockin' album, kicking off with a strong track, but Freak really grew on me with its anthemic and catchy chorus. The rest of the album is solid, even if it isn't spectacular like Revenge. Strangely, I have the feeling this line up of Kiss may have lasted the longest of any. I could be wrong. But Thayer is an underrated player, not as egocentric as Staley or Simmons, so that is probably why he survived so long. Grade B. |
