Last album with Eric Carr-who by the way is the best drummer ever! Includes the awesome and wonderful song "Forever"

I still can't understand why Gene Simmons still corrupt the wonderfull work from guys like Paul, Child and Bolton. Songs like "Boomerang", "Little Caesar" and "Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell" wouldn't be part of this album. These songs are crapp! Gene's songs sux! It´s pure damage! Gene.... play your bass and stay away from the rest....for the good name of music.

Forever is the best ballad of the whole world!!!!!!!

From: Hardinho |

Finally here's someone who has a hard rocker position! Right, Adrenalizer! Gene Simons poisoned the album!!! Paul Stanley needed to call Michael Bolton to make Forever and erase Gene's appearence in this album that'd be really great if this bass player hadn't bored us with Boomerang!

This album sucked from beginning to end with the exceptions of tracks 1, 3, and 7. Poorly written songs from all the members made this a bomb. Revenge was the biggest comeback ever for a band of this caliber. Too bad that Stanly got the wild hair up his ass and tossed it aside for a reunion tour. How commercial can you get? It's for the fans my ass. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!!! I loved the original line up, but this has dragged on long enough. Bring back the Revenge sound!

This album sucked from beginning to end with the exceptions of tracks 1, 3, and 7. Quote from RENO. I could not agree with you more, this has got to be the lowest point of KISS' Career. What makes things worse is the fact that THIS WAS the last record that Carr worked on with KISS. Skip this one & get REVENGE, THE BEST non-make up KISS record period! 4.5 for the three so-so tracks, SIXXSWINE

I never said I "dislikes" ( where did you learn english anyway?) the 80's hair and style. They were the best years of music. When bands were in tune and they could actually play and tune their instruments. I was disappointed in the fact that Kiss just threw out an album for people instead of putting time and effort into it. I have nothing against any of the members of Kiss, past or present. It's just seems that they are doing music for money now instead of for the Fans (Like they've always said)

Reno, you express the disappointment of the true KISS fan. The only good thing about this album was the supporting tour. They knew the album sucked so they started playing some of their classic material live. Best part of the show was when Gene did "God of Thunder" and the Sphinx on stage was talking. Own this album if you must KISS fans. If you're a KISS beginner, find it used or in a discount rack.

Was stoked for this to come out because Gene promised (as he always does for every album) that it would be a marriage of "Destroyer" & "Creatutes". Was disappointed then & still am now. Just seems rushed and Gene's songs seem like he just didn't care. Just reeks of a 1989 vibe though and given a listen to now it seems dated and a galaxy away. A++ for effort and one of the best Kiss tours I've ever seen though. My memory of seeing Gene goof with Eric by the kit will stay with me always!!

Back to basics on this one. They moved into a smaller studio to record this one for better sound. A great sounding hard rock album. Every song is rockin and unique on this album and you wont get tired of this album, " Forever" is a awesome ballad too.

one of my favorite kiss albums from the eighties..fell in love with the paul stanley songs after seeing the video for 'rise to it", boy they sounded cool on that one... Too many songs on this one , if there weren't any gene songs on this one, it would be almost perfect rock. nitrodoll

Sorry nitrodoll, I usually agree with you on alot of the stuff here, but this cd was one of their poorest. It didn't seem like there was any thought or heart put into it at all. Tracks 1,3,and 7 were the best ones on here. As for the best 80's Kiss cd, I'm still tossing between Lick It Up, Creatures Of the Night, and Animalize. I'm leaning towards Animalize right now.

this album sux.probably the only kiss album ill never listen to again."betrayed" is the only song with ballz, the rest sounds forced and it shows.the production is lousy too.where are the guitars?they were trying to jump on the bon jovi/def leppard bandwagon and it didnt work.people look to kiss for asskickin rock, songs like"beth""forever" and"i was made for loving you were flukes while they gained their fans from rockin'..deja vu 1979.

Man, you are all stupid fuckers in my book! This is Kiss's best album since Creatures of the Night by a long shot! Animalize through Crazy Nights were too poppy, and Kiss realized it finally. They turned up the volume knobs on their amps and played away hard here. Bars none, Bruce Kulick is a way more proficient player than Ace ever was. And those shit keyboards on Crazy Night have been thrown out-Thank God! This stands above Revenge too. If Revenge was better than this album, how come didn't it

Some dude calls everyone "stupid fuckers" but does not leave his name. Are his posts going to be erased, or is that Trick's fate? This album was plain boring, but the tour was cool. I would caution anyone who wishes to defend KISS circa 1986-1995 because they were a bland band during this time. Again, that is just one stupid fucker's opinion. Hey MELODIKER, are you home sick today? Try some finesse man! Keep it to 5 posts a day, then you have something for tomorrow.

Not one of Kiss' finest moments (of the non-makeup stuff I prefer LICK IT UP and REVENGE), but I saw the last show of this tour and it was an incredible show! Of course, about a year later Eric Carr passed away so I was privileged to see his last show EVER... R.I.P. Eric, you are still sorely missed.

From: Apoc_DOP |

This was Kiss trying to be Kiss with Gene still half asleep. The fact that Eric (god bless) was having health problems at this point didn't help. The writing that Gene brought to this was bad because "raunchy" was out 3 years prior. This album had a great deal of potential... But the live show was the worst yet. Kiss tried to be cool by being over the top "raunchy' and it went over like a turd in a punch bowl. It got worse on the Revenge tour, but the music was better. A reunion was inevitable.

Gene Simmons said "This saw us finding ourselves again. There wasn't a Desmond Child lick in sight - we had marksmen with bazookas posted outside the studio" And I say - very raw production and couple of good songs. I love this cd, because it's a pure hard rock. If it was a 10 songs album, it would be the best Kiss lp ever Just Look: 1.Rise To It, 2. Hide Your Heart, 3. Read My Body, 4. Love's A Slap In The Face, 5. Forever, 6. Silver Spoon, 7. King Of Hearts, 8. The Street Giveth..., 9. Somew

This record they went with Vini Poncia I believe. Whoever did Dynasty ? It seemed more pop. In hindsight their were to many songs on the record. I did listen to the tape alot. THe tour was great though I think the only thing that saved the record was the hit. I wished they could have written that themselves then going to an outside source. The one song I can remember that I strongly dislike was Read my Body. I did like Betrayed and honestly the Eric song I didn't care for.

I wanted to figure out reading the insert about safe sex and condom use was Gene or Paul's idea. Does one really expect Gene who has had sex with some 4600 women to practice what he preaches ? I think they wanted a good message but it seems a bit hypocritical coming from Gene.

Seems most don't like this album but I think it was pretty good. I enjoy BETRAYED/KING OF HEARTS/SILVER SPOON....true there is some shite on here for sure. BOOMERANG could be assholed, LITTLE CAESAR and the wowful READ MY BODY aswell but the rest stacks up well. FOREVER is a good track obviously.

15 tracks, but unfortunately most of it is faceless hair metal. "King Of Hearts" is classic Kiss, and "You Love Me To Hate You" is also good. "Little Caesar" sounds like a pizza commercial, and "Forever" is overrated. 5.5/10

BUEN DISCO

There are songs I like on all the KISS albums, but in general Lick It Up through Crazy Nights are pretty forgetable. I think Hot In The Shade had the potential to be praised as a great "comeback" for KISS, but it's weighed down by way too many songs. I would have cut it down to ten songs and it could have been a tight rock album. I like "Little Ceasar" and "Read My Body" but they didn't age well and Gene's songs as usual, are mostly filler. My song selection would be: Rise To It Hide Your Heart Prisoner Of Love Love's A Slap In The Face Forever Silver Spoon Cadillac Dreams King Of Hearts The Street Giveth And The Street Taketh Away You Love Me To Hate You

My favourate Kiss album, well saying that i never listen to Gene how the bloke has made it big singing the same old tripe.. Paul on the other hand saves this album as he does on most Kiss records.! King of Hearts, You Love me to hate you, Silver spoon are grat songs they really should have performed them live.!

Well, kiss my grits, if it ain't another solid but uninspired outing from Simmons & company. A few songs could be classified as really good, some could be called downright terrible, and then there are a bunch of mediocre throwaways that neither impress nor enrage, that are just sort of "there," failing to generate a reaction of any sort, be it positive or negative, overloaded with neutrality. Most of what Kiss offers here is the hard rock version of vanilla ice cream--safe & bland, but tasty enough from time to time.

Hot In The Shade is a great argument for pre-CD running time, because at fifteen tracks, there's just way too much filler. I had a book that was just callled "Kisss," kind of an oral biography, and when the various participants were talking about this album, Bruce talkked about how he and Eric did much of the work, while Paul and especially Gene were nowhere to be found, and then when they did drop in, they would change the songs around (Bruce pointed to "Prisoner Of Love" as a case in point). Also, apparently much of the material is actually in demo form, with guitar and vocal overdubs. Bruce also states that Eric wasn't very happy during the recording, and didn't like the way it turned out. And then Gene says on the next page what a pleasure it was to work with Eric on this album, and how enthusiastic he was.

Personally, not a good album for me either, and it was my first Kiss album as well. "Hide Your Heart" is all right, and "Forever" is a sweet ballad, but seems contrived and soulless coming from this band. "Betrayed" is a good Evil Gene song, and "King Of Hearts," "Prisoner Of Love" and "Rise To It" are all right as well. But then you get the blatant "Pour Some Sugar On Me" ripoff of "Read My Body," and crap like 'Cadillac Dreams" and "Boomerang"--all Gene songs incidentally, and all just plain awful. The album was a bigger success than Crazy Nights thanks to the top-ten hit "Forever," but may actually be even worse, pound for pound.

This is pure 80s Kiss and that may be why I like it quite a bit. Only Forever got much play on the radio, and you can see why cause it is a top quality power ballad. Hide Your Heart is probably the best song though and had been around for a few years before Kiss made their own version. The hooks of that track are down to Holly Knight but Paul is an excellent vocalist for this type of song. The rest ofvthe tracks are never really heard from again so it is nice to sometimes revisit 80s Kiss and not be over-familiar with the songs. Being a sucker for 80s era Kiss, I still grade this a firm B+
