don't bother with this one

From: Don Date: May 27, 2001 at 17:30
Couldn't disagree more with the "don't bother" comment. But don't buy this looking for the classic Kiss sound; this is heavier-end stuff, much influenced by the real musicians in the band, Kulick and Singer. Makes me wonder if Kiss would have stayed this heavy if the reunion hadn't happened.

From: Mike G. Date: July 26, 2001 at 7:41
Whoa!! Who is this!!! Definitely not the KISS I'm used to!! Too heavy for KISS!! Kiss is a classic hard rock band, not a hard METAL outfit!! HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

From: Reno Date: August 15, 2001 at 13:48
AARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!! What the hell was this? My favorite band of all time? The band who sets half the standards of hard rock trying to grab a piece of the grunge market? Sell outs!!! I got a bootleg of this 2 years before it was released, and was horrified. Bad marketing idea on the part of KISS.

From: cachorruxo Date: August 26, 2001 at 17:57
Hey Reno! this album is for you! Grunge and hardcore, just like you enjoy! This one got the Gene Simmons' soul!

From: T-BONE Date: August 30, 2001 at 14:28
I agree with Reno. I've seen a lot of his comments on this sites and it seems like we enjoy a lot of the same music. This cd was a poor move on the part of Kiss. It sold poorly because of the "Sellout" title. Kiss tried to jump the grunge bandwagon and figured it out before they released the cd and shelved it. After much prodding from eager fans they released it. I heard Jungle on the radio one day and could not beleive it was Kiss. I give it a 3.0

From: koogles Date: January 3, 2002 at 8:27
"Anything for a buck" seemed to be the Kiss motto of the '90s. Kiss fans are partly to blame for being so stupid as to want everything and anything they put out. So "Carnival of Souls" is your just desserts. Are you happy now??

From: Motley Date: April 9, 2002 at 1:17
the most NOT KISS album ever. Puke........Waste of time!!!

From: Desslar Date: April 9, 2002 at 2:14
The heaviness is not a problem, but the almost totally grunge sound is. Ambitious but awful, and it's hard to imagine who they thought was going to buy it.

From: Tony Date: May 7, 2002 at 0:06
Do Kulick and Singer play their asses off on this?? Yep. Can Stanley and Simmons write second rate grunge tunes in their sleep?? Yep. Is this a great KISS album?? No way. We all know where they were trying to go with this and hey I have no problem with that but the execution and sincerity are just lacking. My question for them is what the f*#@k were they going to do with this stuff live?? Bruce is amazing here but a nice studio experiment for Kiss and that's all it is!!!

From: jason (FA - Q) Date: August 5, 2002 at 17:13
Look at this album. It came out in 1997 and it is "The Final Sessions." They have been kidding their fans since '97 and now they have really showen their asses by NOT hanging it up! What a slap in the face this is to all their fans............... This is one of the biggest mistakes I have seen a major act ever do.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

From: RichieRocker Date: September 16, 2002 at 22:03
This album totally sucks, They turned kinda grunge and its horrible. Check out Jason FAQ's comments on it he sums it up best.

From: metalthis Date: December 1, 2002 at 18:21
this cd KIKS ASS! it shows there talent. it also shows how they can do it all, from cok rok to heavy shit!

From: iNjEcTtheVeNoM Date: January 20, 2003 at 18:51
i think this album was a good step forward for kiss..so what if they had a lil"grunge"sound to it?"hate","rain" and "master and slave" rock as hard as anything theyve done.."jungle" is an extended jam that really rocks,"i will be there" is the best ballad period theyve ever done ..the only thing that drags this down are genes songs,(except hate)too melancholy and repetitive...just a lil different more due to the prodcer(toby wright of AIC fame) and a lil darkness from kiss is a good thing

From: mojijackson Date: February 26, 2003 at 4:41
HATE!!! Is a BAD-ASS song...!!!!

From: Roda rock Date: March 9, 2003 at 5:10

From: Emilio Date: April 1, 2003 at 10:57
¡¡Me encanta hacer amigos!!

From: Emilio Date: April 1, 2003 at 10:59

From: RichieRocker Date: April 1, 2003 at 12:58
Thank You Emilio!!! Way to use the english language man!! This Cd Didn't do much for me. Nothing spectacular about this one.

I CAN SAY THAT THIS IS A KISS BAD ALBUM...BUT NO.... A KISS BAD ALBUM IS MAYBE HOT IN THE SHADE....THIS.. IS NOT KISS.....IF YOU LOVE KISS MUSIC DO NOT BUY IT...BUT MAYBE IF YOU ARE A YOUNG DUDE THAT LIKES THE NEW BANDS SUCH AS NINE INCH NAILS,PANTERA AND ALL THAT,MAYBE YOU CAN FIND SOMETHING HERE TO ENTERTAIN YOU!!!

From: Rycheage Date: May 25, 2003 at 21:45
Other than "Jungle" this should've stayed in the can. Boring grunge crap. Actually some grunge is better than this. Not recommended.

From: Big Mike Date: May 29, 2003 at 18:05
This album is pretty heavy, A progression from revenge to a more modern sound. So yeah, its a bit of a sell out for kiss but the songs aren't too bad.

From: Emilio Date: June 30, 2003 at 11:16
I ear it again, and aaarggggghhh. This is the worst cd in the world. 8.58? It's a joke. Perhaps 0.85?

From: Gar Date: October 17, 2003 at 3:46
Kiss attempted to update their sound and alienated most of their fans in the process. Ranks right up there(or is it down there) with "The Elder" as their worst album.

From: SPOTLIGHT Date: December 1, 2003 at 4:00
While I tend to agree with most of the comments that have already been posted here, you've gotta admit, we should've expected this from Kiss. They've done disco, pop and a concept album. So, why not grunge? I listen to this one every now and then. Can't totally get into it. Now, if they ever decide to do a death metal album, that's when I'll stop listening. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!

From: K.K. Date: December 6, 2003 at 14:06
BLEH , FUCK, I HATE THIS ALBUM !!!! FUCK FUCK !! KISS IS THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD, BUT THIS ONE SUCKS !!

From: Dean Date: December 7, 2003 at 1:45
I will now disagree with 99& of the comments posted above and say i liked this one quite a bit. I hated the band around the "let's put the x in sex days" but this one had some cool riffs on it. I'd be kind of curious to see what Whiplash thinks of this since i tend to agree with alot of his comments.

It's been awhile since I've listened to this one...I'll break it out this week, and then give you my opinion on it Dean. About all I remember for sure at the moment is that "Jungle" was pretty cool....

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Whiplash1972 Date: December 17, 2003 at 2:01
While this CD certainly offers more than just "Jungle", I'm afraid I wouldn't list it as one of my favorite Kiss efforts. Along with "Jungle", I also found myself enjoying the slower effort "I Will Be There" ,as well as the song "I Confess" with Gene doing lead vocals.Beyond that,"Rain" is very,...well.. DIFFERENT....not sure if I like it or not.I guess if I were doing the Ebert & Roeper thing, I'd have to say "Thumbs Down" overall.....

From: Christine Date: December 17, 2003 at 21:34
I have to admit I bought into the hype surrounding this one when it was released, so being the huge Kiss fan I am, I ran out and bought it. I still can't believe that Stanley & Simmons would actually put their names on it! What grungy "jump on the bandwagon" crap. If I didn't know better I'd think it was released just to fulfill a contractual obligation. Either that or Gene needed a new yacht or something...

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 8, 2004 at 16:50
This one sat on the shelf for what, three or four years before they finally released it? One listen tells you why. This is such a transparent attempt at riding the grunge train (which of course had already passed by the time the album came out) that the band name should've been changed to "Kiss-Garden." That said, "Hate," "Jungle" and "In My Head" are still pretty decent songs, but not enough to save this from the "nice try" pile.

From: Apoc_DOP Date: February 14, 2004 at 23:57
I think this disc was a "filler" for the record contract. This was not KISS at all. It was contract fulfillment! A first time listnener of KISS would never listen to KISS again! Stay away from this! Go back from here... Listen to -{REVENGE..ASYLUM..ANIMALIZE..LICK IT UP.. CREATURES..DYNASTY.. LOVE GUN.. DESTROYER.. ALIVE.. ALIVE 2..HOTTER THAN HELL..DRESSED TO KILL..KISS..}-These are the albums which define KISS. "Between these, are all.. After, is nothing"

From: Dave Date: May 14, 2004 at 6:43
Shit album, straight and simple.I can only see another effort of Simmons to make some more bucks off the fans. He really has been more of a merchandise machine than a talented musician, especially since the late 80ies. This may be good for Stanley and band members as they will earn their money, but it makes me slowly turn my back on Kiss.I remember walking around with Kiss-Jackets and buying all their records in the 80ies-my favourite band.I want bands to work for their money a fame continuosly!

From: motley_69 Date: May 20, 2004 at 21:03
K this record isn't good, we all agree to that, but I think KISS knwe that too, which is why they didn't want to release it. The only reason it came out was the fans DEMANDING IT!!!! While I don't think it's the greatest, I do pull it out once in a while and give it a listen and it's ok. Then I'm fine until I do it again next year.

From: Camrin Date: July 11, 2004 at 3:36
Just skimmed the comments... no one mentions "Master & Slave". Paul really sticks a boot in your ass on that song. I blew out some very expensive speakers to that song. EYESOFUCKINGLOVE IT!!! It doesn't deserve to be played at anything less than full volume. I wholeheartedly agree; screw the "grunge" genre. But, "Master & Slave" stands my test of time as a ballblaster.

From: nic scata Date: July 21, 2004 at 0:46
GREAT ALBUM BUY IT IT'S GREAT KULICK AND SINGER ARE MUCH BETTERT THAN FREHLEY AND CRISS

From: mfmc Date: August 5, 2004 at 19:34

From: K.K. Poland Date: August 13, 2004 at 4:07
boring shit.............

From: Adam Blackheart Date: August 29, 2004 at 10:03
Hmmm, quite good album. Maybe Not - In - Kiss - Style, but it's good piece of music... I Will Be There is one of the best Kiss - ballads...

From: Geoff Date: August 29, 2004 at 21:55
What I terror this one is. I really hate this album - sounds dead in the water, slow and boring and just not a good hard rock release at all, IMO. Not a single song that made me twitch my ears a little. Just plain boring.

From: Rycheage Date: August 30, 2004 at 22:07
I must agree with Geoff here. Other than "Jungle" this is extreme crap. This is heavy for heavy's sake and really goes absolutely nowhere. I do not recommend this to anyone except maybe those who like Gene's new solo stuff. Avoid.

From: pt88 Date: January 20, 2005 at 14:33
I had a crappy version of this as a bootleg and it sounded interesting. Later when I got he cd I was horrified. Obviously they were changing the Kiss sound completely. What a chance they were taking. If the reunion never happened what would have come of this ? The only song I thought was allright was Bruce's.

From: Big Mike Date: February 17, 2005 at 12:21
Gene didn't want to release this but the bootleg got out and he didn't want to loose out. No surprises there. I believe thats why it was released without fanfare. Still it was at least good to have some new material. I thought this album was going to be a rap version of kiss classics.......but then maybe I shouldn't give Gene any ideas.

From: LUST Date: March 19, 2005 at 1:29
If you don't like this CD you're a KISS fan stuck in the 70's who will continue to pay $100 a concert to see the same songs over and over again. Musically, perhaps their best effor after Revenge and Destroyer. Definitely a different tone than what your used to with KISS but this one rocks!! Expand your horizons KISS fans, and crank Master & Slave.

From: true melodic Date: March 28, 2005 at 14:00

From: poproxx2007 Date: December 23, 2005 at 3:15
Showed them trying to move with the times which is always the death nil for the great rock acts. These songs are just not good by any standard and some are just too long. You have to remember how shitty music was in 1994 when this was being recorded. Kiss was trying to move with the times and really strip everything down. Little did they know they were on the verge of the ultimate comeback which they milked for almost a decade! Nothing here grabs me but nothing on Psycho Circus really did either

From: wikkid76 Date: January 7, 2006 at 21:36
I dunno dudes... This album continues to freak me out. There are pearls here, like I Will Be There,Master and Slave and Childhood's End and there's a lot of weird stuff. On the other hand - the weird stuff is really cool, just not what I'm used to being a Kiss fan for 15 years. All in all - it's one fuckin great album!!!

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: June 26, 2007 at 19:05
GREAT ALBUM!!.

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: June 26, 2007 at 19:13
RECOMENDADO!

From: altacet Date: January 22, 2008 at 10:43
This shit sould never have been recorded

From: kai-2 Date: September 17, 2008 at 20:57
Strange KISS album with a heavy grunge sound. Supposedly a final tribute to Bruce Kulick, but hard to understand as Bruce was a melodic axeman, not a grunge/alternative guitarrist. The only songs I actually liked are "Master & Slave", "Jungle" and "Childhood´s End". In fact, for me is the only KISS record of my collection that saturates me (I can only spin it once!!!).

From: pie75 Date: July 27, 2010 at 1:04
you know i was really getting into heavier stuff at the time like slayer, megadeth and pantera so i kinda played this albim a fair bit at the time i don't think they were trying grunge more trying to be darker, moodier and heavier glad they've never played any song off this live i don't mind it still but hardly ever play it the best here are hate, rain, master and slave, childhoods end, jungle and in my head i think i will be there is paul's weakest ever ballad though it's about his son so i guess it's special to him and thank god kiss didn't stay in this direction

From: MikeTuinstra Date: November 10, 2010 at 22:36
Heavy is not so much the keyword here. It's slow, boring and overall bad quality material. That's the whole problem with this sound. The whole point of Grunge and Alternative is emphasis on the lyrics and dark mood. The rest is marketing slang for trash. Makes it obsolete.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: June 24, 2013 at 17:39
Probably this is Kiss' lowest release ever!!!...what the hell were they thinking of when they recorded it???!!!...ok,it was 1997,the decline of the alternative "grunge" thing was on its way but i think Gene,Paul and with the suspicious complicity of the other 2 members, wanted to leave an album under those parameters(for good or for bad)but it surely did have a bad sensation for the die hard fans of the "money makers" guys..."Jungle" & "I Confess" are goodies and add to those 2 the nice semi acoustic "I Will Be There" & "Rain"...to be honest with you this is quite forgetful album...60/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: June 24, 2013 at 19:19
This was actually recorded in '95, but was shelved because of the reunion, finallly seeing release in the fall of '97. It's definitely Kisss trying to change with the times, which is nothing new. They've jumped on every trend along the way, from disco to glossy, polished hair-metal. While definitely no their best release, it's their heaviest in places, and has some good songs. "Jungle" was the first single, and is good, but goes on forever. Other good ones are "Master And Slave" (the second single), "Hate" and "In My Head."

From: Dramarama Date: June 3, 2024 at 6:20
I really like the cd. The drums are fantastic and there's some really heavy riffs. If you like God of Thunder don't believe the bad reviews and check this out!
