|great album not like alot of the hair bands of the 80's good songs
||Date: April 11, 2002 at 3:48|
| Really good album. Too bad it got overlooked in the hair band shuffle. Good hard rock blues with actual thought put into the songwriting. Kinda Badlands with sing-a-long choruses.

|cool melodic, bluesy hard rock.Pity this one went unnoticed it was a solid piece of work.In the vein of Cry Of Love and Lynch Mob but a bit more mainstream with big sing along choruses.

|bobby borg later played on warrant's belly to belly volume 1. anyone who's heard this album knows that beggars and thieves came from the same background as warrant, or similar at least. obviosly, the (then) new member of warrant weren't the cause of the change in warrant's musical style because they all came from the same hair band musical background. i suspect the same change would have happened in warrant's musical style even if they hadn't changed members.

|Fell in love with the title track when I heard it on the radio many years ago. Rest of the album is great, too. The singer used to be in a band with Slaughter's Dana Strum in the mid 80's.

|"Isn't It Easy" is a near classic.

|Why less-talented bands made it big and these guys were left begging for crumbs will forever be one of melodic hard rock's biggest mysteries. This group had it all--the look, the singer, the songs--and yet still failed to gain anything other than cult status. In a just world, songs like "Isn't It Easy," "Heaven & Hell," and "Love's a Bitch" would have been all over the radio. Whatever you do, don't commit the crime of overlooking this excellent CD.

|One word to describe this, HORRIBLE! This CD is some of the weakest metal I've ever listened to. Not one song on it stands out. Avoid it at all costs!

|Whoever said this was metal, King James?

|They had an album ready to go a year or two later, but because of record company BS, it was shelved til 1997 (Look what you create). Haven't heard it though. They released 'Grey album' in 1999, too
||Date: March 31, 2003 at 21:03|
|Hey Kevin, the second album is very good too, i like it as much as this one, a good one to get and still quite cheap.
||Date: April 8, 2003 at 15:04|
|I agree with the above reference to Badlands. I hear some of that with also tiny bits of Bad English and 21 Guns (Salute vocals) from time to time. Pretty enjoyable CD. 5 bucks on EBAY!! Yes!!

|They never made because they were not that good. Not that talented at all, guys. Average bluesy hardrock, that's what we get here. Not bad, but far from exciting. Average, that's it !
||Date: May 16, 2003 at 1:57|
|"No More Broken Dreams" and the title track highlight this otherwise OK disc. It is a great buy because you can get it so cheap on eBay.

|Just got this off Ebay for $1. Used to have it on cassette back when it first came out. I liked it then and I still like it now. The style of music to me sounds a lot like Bad Company's Holy Water. I've had it playing this past week and I enjoy the whole album but I guess nothing must really stand out because 5 minutes after listening to it I can't remember how any of the songs go except the title track and the guitar solo on track 2.

|Blue Tequila, I'm sorry you had to waste a precious dollar on this CD. I just threw away my Beggars and Thieves CD. You could have had it for free, it's HORRIBLE!!

|I think this is awesome. I dig the vocals a lot. Isn't It Easy isn't a good song. It's a great song.
||Date: July 24, 2003 at 3:34|
|Yes indeed, an awesome cd. On some of the tracks, Louis singing reminds me a lot the one from Jean Beauvoir. John, "Isn't It Easy" isn't only a great song, it's a classic

|"Isn't it Easy" isn't only a classic, it's legendary... I was always partial to the title track too, but quite honestly it's one of the few discs I can listen to all the way through without wanting to skip through to the good tunes. They're all good!

|Anyone know what their 1997 & 1999 releases sound like? They're apparently still kicking (minus Borg & Soussan) and signed to MTM Records.

|I had this cd, got rid of it, gave it another try and it's better than what i remember but nothing great. I don't really see the Badlands comparisions but hey that's just me. The bridge in No more Broken Dreams is pretty cool but that's about the only song that sticks in my head.

|Badlands?! What the-? I saw B. & G. at the old Cat Club in NYC before their 1st record came out. Their songs stuck in my mind. But, the arrangements were a little different on the CD. I thought the production was soft. Could have rocked more. Still like it.
||Date: January 11, 2004 at 18:03|
|My alltime favourite. Rock till you drop. Billy knows better, Isn't it easy, Kill me and of course Beggars & Thieves are killer-songs
||Date: February 28, 2004 at 21:18|
|yes this is an underrated bluesy hard group in some aspects like badlands but not so good like badlands . group anyway my rating: 77/100 CHEERS FROM MEXICO CABRONES!!!
||Date: March 16, 2004 at 15:36|
|Like Jake E Lee, Phil Soussan abandoned Ozzy's hair metal kingdom and resurfaced in a top-notch rock band. The Badlands and Bad Company comparisons above are fairly accurate. Beggars & Thieves come across as bonafide arena rockers w/ just enough 80s rock sensibility to have kept them fashionable. Never heard the follow up albums but willing to bet they're not even close to this debut. If you like your hard rock with a melodic but blue collar attitude, you'll approve of Beggars & Thieves.
||Date: November 9, 2004 at 23:50|
|I've only heard the title track on the radio once. I finally saw the video on VH1 classic the other day. Good band just arrived to late to make an impact.
||Date: January 20, 2005 at 13:27|
|This is some weak "Hard Rock" a poor man's Journey is a more accurate comparison. Ray Gillen is rolling over in his grave every time you guys compare this crap to thr phenomena that was Badlands.

|I had this at one time, got rid of it, Got it back, listened to it again, liked it this time!! There were MANY great AOR/Rock style bands in 1990 that this was not a standout. Listening to this again, with unbiased ears now, I really enjoyed it! Catchy melodies AOR style and slick production by a well known producer team, Steve Thompson & Michael Barbiero(Tesla,GNR,Sweet F.A.,EMN,Cinderella,Dokken). If like what they were producing in these years, this IS a must have CD. If you don't, stay away!

|Maybe it's just me, but this is one of my fave albums of the late 80's early 90's. This is a real grower of an album. When i first heard it, i thought it was just ok, but man, there are some amazing hard rock/AOR on here. Opening track No More Broken Dreams, Isn't It Easy and the haunting Kill Me are awesome. And the title track to end the album is simply suberb. Louie Merlino has an awesome voice, and IMO there is not a dud track on here. Thus creating the perfect hard rock album. 10/10....
||Date: March 10, 2005 at 5:55|
|To me, this is what Giant would have sounded like if they had opted for a more straight forward hard rock route, without going for the big melodies and great songs. In other words, this is solid but aside from a pretty great first song there's not much else here that I really enjoy. Good and solid, but not very memorable songs.
||Date: March 12, 2005 at 11:44|
|This is a very underrated album by the above comments. A great mixture of Tall Stories, Singsing and Cry of Love. There are some very memorable songs on this like Isn't it easy - a real classic. Buy it.
||Date: June 2, 2005 at 6:52|
|I bought this as soon as their video hit MTV back in '90. Got rid of it soon after. Don't remember much about it, which pretty much sums up my feelings and some other people's comments about the quality. Very average CD, and not memorable.
||Date: February 27, 2006 at 12:38|
|A very solid melodic hard rock release..but it doesn't have a Badlands sound at All...maybe Giant,Diving for Pearls,etc..but in No Way Badlands...Good songs..very melodic....
||Date: October 30, 2007 at 22:47|
|Noone giving props to "heaven & hell". Good song, solid release. If you find it for cheap, pull the trigger.
||Date: March 1, 2008 at 16:47|
|Give me a break...I've heard hundreds of albums much better than this. It's an ok album, but has no real standout tracks, it actually bores me to death to listen to it from beginning to end. Good vocals, good production and playing, but no real inspiration. No wonder they got lost. And it's not that bluesy...Tangier did that wayyyyyyy better!!!!! 6,5/10
||Date: May 26, 2009 at 17:22|
|i liked it when i heard it. well produced melodic hard rock album with some great songs like: Billy Knows Better, Isn't It Easy (great ballad) and Beggars and Thieves. i would say this record is one of the better ones released in the early 90s.

|What we have here is great melodic arena hard rock. Beggars And Thieves had it all: The looks, the sounds ,the songs. And why the hell they didn't become huge? They are not your typical hard rock band but more mature and earthy, so the metalheads who pretend they like hard rock can't get them. Add the fact that it released through the begginning of the GodDamn grunge era. It's a classic and if you don't like it go listen some iron maiden and don't pretend you like hard rock. That's all!

|excellent piece of hard rock here.it has style,groove,sound ,attitude and many many good songs.steve thompson and michael barbiero in production doing the job as it should and the band in great shape.all the songs deserve your attention and especially "waitin for the man" , "isn t it easy" and "beggars & thieves".this is an underrated band and surely a hard rock gem

|Not exactly relevant today but back in the day this actually stood above the crowd of what was then considered hard rock... no it's not as good as the Tangier or Badlands debut nor do I really hear the comparisons, in genre yes but these guys had their own sound well enough. Ignore the lolly pop Poison/Warrant chick lyrics for its time and the album works a treat. Opening track Broken Dreams (again, lyrics aside) is a monster intro to the album, Heaven and Hell another winner as already mentioned above, ballad Kill Me and the slightly better title track are perfect material and both songs remind me more of Riverdogs more than those comparisons above. Billy Knows Better is probably the hardest rocker and a shout out also for the cruis'n Isn't It Easy. These guys have a new album penned in for 2011, the followup albums went for less rock more blues and here's hoping they move back to a more rock sound come 2011. A must have for those interested still & who missed out 1st time around!

|At a time when the music industry was releasing crap it was refreshing to hear something like this one. While not the best rock release in 1990 it does have several great tracks making it worth tracking down!

|Brilliant release...released at the beginning of a new decade (the 90's)...no grunge still around and some bands bet on still recording albums having that Hard Rock vibe in their veins...this one's not the exception whatsoever ..."No More Broken Dreams" opens the album perhaps not so enthusiastically talking but good anyway but then we have excellent songs such as "Billy Knows Better","Waitin' For The Man" & "Isn't It Easy", a really good rocking one in "Heaven & Hell",the best one in my opinion is "Love Junkie" & a nice ending song with the one that gives the band its name "Beggars & Thieves"...recommended album 4 sure...93/100

|Cross between Tyketto and Journey in sound." Isn't It Easy" is a really nice song.
||Date: December 7, 2011 at 14:05|
|Excellent melodic blues oriented hard rock. Cool riffs with energetic vocals and solid hooks. I agree it may be a combination of Tyketto and Journey.
||Date: February 6, 2014 at 7:41|
|I don't know how I missed this when it first came out! Why this classic release was not a massive hit is beyond my comprehension. There really aren't any bad songs but the title track is an absolute stand out. It is a mighty song with a massive chorus that should have dominated the radio. If Guns N Roses had released that song it would have been #1 all over the world.

|Having owned this cd for roughly 30 years now, figured I’d give it another spin. To me, it’s rough. Will try it again in another decade. As a reference, 3 albums I really enjoy are Babylon A.D. - s/t, Banshee - Race Against time, Wildside - Under the Influence.
