Very, very strong modern hard rock disc here. I really don't care for Shinedown's first two albums but this was a pleasant surprise. From the opening track, 'Devour', you know there's something new here - a spark. The title track is an absolute monster too and 'Second Chance' has one of the biggest hooks (pre-chorus) of 2008. Most these songs are pretty damn good/solid - big riffs and big melodic choruses, but my pick of the disc is the beautiful closing ballad, 'Call me'. What an awesome song. Very strong CD overall. |

I'll admit that the first time I heard this cd I was not impressed. But after the second time I was hooked. I can't stop listening to it. Definitely one of the best releases of 2008. Highly recommed. 9.9/10 |

Actually noticed this one while going through Billboard's modern crap charts. Where Second Chance's holding a #15 spot at the current Hot 100. Never ever did I expect to stumble upon some actual good music, good Rock music, but that's in fact what this is. Very rare for today's Pop standards and a stellar Melodic Rock album just the same. Here's to hope for a new beginning!! |

As far as I'm concerned, this one was the superstar of 2008's modern hard rock stakes. The band chopped away all hints of the grunginess that stained their previous efforts and simply delivered a knockout hard rock album fuled by great riffs and electric energy. Sonically this sounds superb, with a production job that gets everything just right, crisp and clean but still sporting some beef and balls. Then, of course, there are the hooks, and almost without exception they are all great. It would be sheer madness for any modern hard rock fan not to love this one. |
