Probably the BIGGEST littlest band to ever come out of Hollywood in the early 90's. The look was glam but the music was beyond lipstick and hairspray. There only Church Records release with a variety of styles and tip of your tongue riffs and lyrics. This is five star songwriting that was under exposed. Don't get me wrong this album has it's flaws(like it was never released on a major label and didn't get it's proper recognition). Too many strong points to list. Good luck finding this one. LOL

From: Jennifer Date: February 8, 2001 at 9:09
I had this on cassette back in 89-90, but my car was stole, and it was actually IN the cassette player at the time. I have since had such a hard time getting ,y hands on this cd!! I have bid on e-bay (when it's there) up to $100, and still no luck!!

From: Tacy Date: February 14, 2001 at 21:00
This is truly one of THE best bands to ever hit Hollywood. It is truly a shame that they were never signed to a major label. I have been looking for this CD for the longest time, after mine was stepped on at a party, and have been forced to download it from Napster.

I used to play with the guitar player, Dave Zinc, in this band. I've been looking for his cd forever. If anyone can help me get a copy of this cd I would really appreciate it. Let me know. dfreeman@wiley-x.com

Killer band, they should never have given up. Go to blackboardjungle.net or ebay.com to find there music

From: Gorgios Gorge Date: March 8, 2001 at 19:18
The day they broke up, the mayor should have rolled up hollywood blvd, and declared a city wide emergency! The culpret? Kurt Cobain & his flannel friends! They wre the real 90's, Not that seattle garbage that spoiled everyone's fun!

From: tom Date: April 1, 2001 at 12:54
1993, I bought'i like it alot' in my favorite recordstore here in Belgium. I was 18 years old and going through some rough times. anyway, i listened to that album and it took me, and it still has a hold on me. This is the sort of album that will follow me for the rest of my life. Every song has a special meaning to me. 'forever you and i', 'chicago', teach ourselves to fly', 'the prettiest ones' are more than just cool songs. they can make me laugh or bring a tear to my eye. thank u.

From: Wes Date: April 5, 2001 at 15:59
I love this cd. I had it back in the early 90's and my house was broken into and that was one of a few cd's stolen. Since i found it last year in a second hand store for $5 Australian, about 2 bucks US guys. Its a good all round production, the only fault is that these guys didnt make it big and never recorded anything else. As others said . has a glam style look but far advanced and much better song writing than others out of this era. 9 out of 10.

From: HECTOR Date: May 19, 2001 at 15:04
THIS BAND IS KILLER , EVERY SONG OF THIS RECORD IS 10 POINTS , IS VERY BAD THAT THIS BAND DON'T MAKE MORE RECORDS IN ONE BIG RECORD LABEL , FOR LUCK I TO GET THIS CD IN E/BAY .-

From: toņo chile Date: October 16, 2001 at 19:30
sound is like Enuff Znuff

From: Suz Date: October 26, 2001 at 7:48
I love this band! I have 'I Like It Alot' & 'Live @ the Coconut Teaszer' on cassette & still listen to it, to this day! I used to keep in touch w/ Dave Zink & finally got to see them live a couple times in FL back in '92 when they opened for Faster Pussycat! Oh, those were the days! There sound was like no other! When you get your hands on this, don't let it out of your sight!!

From: metal_man73 Date: October 31, 2001 at 12:35
SHAME ON ME!!!! I just recently heard of this band! I am not sure why I never heard them before but I am glad I did!!!Better late than never. I miss this kind of glam music!"Teach Ourselves To Fly" is a great song. They are all great songs!!!

From: Michele Date: December 10, 2001 at 8:41
Fantastic band!!! I have a copy of their demo on tape! Listen to it often! "Paint You A Picture" is such a kick ass song you always remember! I was lucky enough to be involved with some promoting for this band. I owned DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH Promotion! Would love to hear from others MidnyteMoonchyld@aol.com

From: spaceace68 Date: April 7, 2002 at 10:55
I don't mean to sound rude, but this is not glam music. This is nowhere close to being glam. I've been collecting glam for years and I have never heard anything this bad.

From: Date: April 7, 2002 at 14:54
Although the band was lumped in with all the other Sunset bands there was definitley more than meets the eye with these guys. Sure their music bordered on the glam edge but they also added a kind of darker twist to their song writing. Songs such as "This Time Last Year" and "Generation" aren't exactly standard bublegum glam pop. A very talented bunch indeed who never got the chance to enter the big league "thanks" to a certain mister Cobain. A real shame!

From: tomcat Date: April 30, 2002 at 11:06
beautiful music...maybe not glam or anything because some of the songs had a deeper meaning...but just beautiful rock music.. i love Kenny's voice, hope things work out for him with jet 68 tomcat@dolfijn.nl

From: TIM Date: May 2, 2002 at 22:06
No offence, but the deeper meaning doesn't make the songs sound better. The sound like a mix of REM, Toad the Wet Sproket, and early Live- just not as good. They are a bit too alternative sounding for me. I think these guys would have done better coming out 2 years later.

From: RichieRocker Date: June 9, 2002 at 10:25
These guys need to cease the excessive tomfoolery!!! They are not glam, they sound grunge, Not bad musicians, but I wasnt impressed.

From: Paulo-Fernandes Date: July 12, 2002 at 17:05

10 Years later and I still listen to this cd at least once a week , you never should have gave up, you guys had something that will never re-created in new bands. It's just not the same without the four of you together.

RICHIE ROCKER, BLACKBOARD JUNGLE IS DEFINTELY GLAM, THEY JUST HAPPEN TO BRING MORE TO THE TABLE AS FAR AS MUSICIANSHIP, THAN MANY OTHER LESS TALENTED GLAM BANDS...GREAT GLAM SOUND..GREAT SONG WRITTING..I MISS THIS KIND OF MUSIC!!!!!!

From: RichieRocker Date: March 22, 2003 at 23:59
Honestly Shane. I was hoping for a Pretty Boy Floyd, Erotic Suicide type vibe from this band and I never really heard it. I was expecting more from this band because of all the impressive reviews. I was terribly let down from this album, and in my opinion they really didn't sound to glam to me. But that's my opinion. But anyway keep rockin out people!!!

I do not Like it a Lot is what this should be called I agree with richierocker not really the party vibe going on with this band more serious which is cool if that is what you are into. Bought this cd in the early nineties and sold it a few weeks later. Jay from Australia.

The best music to ever come out of Hollywood. Whoever went to the Whisky on June 6th, knows that this band, after 10 years, still draws a HUGE crowd and has killer songs. Blackboard Jungle has a cool website with new pics and merchandise.Check it out on .... Blackboardjungle.net I have worn out several copies of this CD. It is a must for ALL !! Who knows, if we all ask, they might do a show again.. It's worth a shot!! BLACKBOARDJUNGLE.NET check it out !!

they were previously known as the ritz, and then the filthy ritz.

From: Dean Date: October 19, 2003 at 13:39
I won a lot off of ebay which had 5-6 live shows on vid and the "i like it a lot" cassette. I was dissappointed since i was expecting more sleaze. Not a bad band just not for me. Anyone wanting to trade-I'm looking for Alleycat Scratch, Swingin Thing, etc. prey4me334@hotmail.com Later

From: ludezu Date: April 6, 2004 at 8:28
Just found a copy of this cd in a second hand store in Ghent, Belgium. I didn't know the band but it seemed like a glam band so I decided to buy it. I paid only 3 Euro . What a steal!

Don't miss BLACKBOARD JUNGLE at The Whisky A Go Go on Saturday June 5th, 2004 with special guest DJ Eric Ill. See You There

Never heard of this song... Though have this album along with unreleased demos "Last... But Not Lost". Cool band. Check out their site for info.

From: jessica96fish Date: October 15, 2004 at 4:06
not the best album i've ever bought.and for the right price i'd sell it.just something missing on this one.

From: Geoff Date: March 10, 2005 at 18:56
I actually don't mind this disc. Very laid back, but quite enjoyable. 'Chicago' is a very enjoyable opener, 'River of love' is cool hard rock and 'Prettiest ones' is a very nice ballad. I guess overall it ain't that grand, and the vibe is pretty depressing, but it's okay for a few dollars. I still like it.

From: Andii Vamp Date: May 5, 2005 at 1:27
Christ I have a ton of demos by this band along with live videos and this album. Killer stuff!! Always was a fan and I was playing them tonight actually which is why I decided to pop my head in here lol. Great album.

From: Studboy Date: September 22, 2006 at 17:46
I just recently bought an original copy of this CD after holding out for a long time. I originally didn't think this CD was that good, but after several spins it definitely grows on you. Chicago and Everybody Talk About are definitely the highlights on this CD. Definitely a rare indie worth picking up. Kinda reminds me of a mix between Jetboy and Faster Pussycat.

From: glam_junkie Date: October 8, 2007 at 0:11
I can't find any glam comparisons to this album. Not saying it's bad,....just not glam and definitely different to many of the comparisons given above. More just straight forward hard rock - even mellow at times.

From: Gidd Bigo Date: June 30, 2018 at 3:33
I love the song "An Old Friend." It's the sort of track I'd never have found without sites like these, and I could listen to it over and over again.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 2, 2021 at 14:56
Too bad about these guys. If this album had come out just a couple years later, and they had a different image (or no image at all), they could have done something. There's still some sleaze-rock backwash here, but I hear a lot of metal-adjacent alt-rock as well. I hate to compare them to a band like Live (who I loathed back then, mostly for being overplayed and so fucking earnest), but Blackboard Jungle could have hung with that crowd. I could really hear a song like "Chicago" or "This Time Last Year" getting airplay in about 1994 or '95. These are mostly pretty good songs, with those two being the highlights, along with "Everybody Talk About," the title track and the neo-noir tale "California." And we all have somebody that we think of when we hear "An Old Friend." My version is a reissue of some sort, with several live bonus tracks from a reunion show, with what appears to be a small but diehard crowd. Cool, interesting little album.
