THIS IS A GOOD RECORD WHEN DOKKEN BROKE UP THIS WAS A GOOD HOLD OVER UNTIL THEY REUNITED.STAY WAS A OLD UNRECORDED DOKKEN TUNE-MIRROR WAS THE SINGLE A VERY COOL TUNE THIS TO ME WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FOLLOW UP TO BEAST FROM THE EAST I GIVE IT A 10

I sing because of this guy. One of my all time favorite singers, if not my most favorite. Awesome songs..."When some nights" is the best best best! You cannot get sick of it.

From: Sean Kaufman Date: March 12, 2002 at 15:07
Awesome CD!!!! Great guitar riffs... Catchy vocals...I recommend you get this cd because you won't be sorry...

From: dokken6008 Date: March 25, 2002 at 6:15
If you were/are a Dokken fan, there should be nothing holding you back from buying Don's first--AND only, at this point--solo album. Don's band is excellent: Motorhead's very own Mickey Dee on the drums, John Norum of Europe (& now Dokken's new guitarist as of 2001)--there is some very good playing on 'Up From The Ashes'. Standout tracks are "Mirror Mirror", "Living A Lie", "1000 Miles Away" & "When Love Finds A Fool". A very solid record; the production's pretty good too.

From: Andre Date: May 20, 2002 at 10:12
My favourite record in the whole world.Perfect production wonderful arrengements ,melodies that will never leave your head and the best sounding drums i ever heard.Dee plays his instrument like a man. Technical and solid at the same time.Don delivers passionate and strong vocals, elaborating beautiful chorus lines. The guitar work is vigorous and classy, the bass is the heavy heartbeat of the band. The artwork and sleeve design are great(the flag stuff, like a football team).Dream team band.

From: jason Date: May 20, 2002 at 17:00
This album should have been called "Up Off My Ass" because he really laid down on the job here! Lissen Donald Dokken, using your first name doesn't make it any better. Maybe you need a live album? God Save Us!!!

From: Reno Date: May 20, 2002 at 23:06
This cd wasn't a Dokken cd because Lynch wasn't on it. It's still something to listen to. I liked tracks 7,8,and 9 the best. This cd was better than some of the newer Dokken stuff, but it doesn't even come close to cd's like Lock & Key, Back For The Attack, Breaking The Chains and Tooth & Nail. Despite the ego trips...Don and George need each other to complete the full Dokken sound. Neither one has had the success that the original Dokken enjoyed in the 80's.

From: Richard Hall Date: June 19, 2002 at 13:12
Don took no chances on this one.He pulled out all the stops to make one mother of a melodic rock epic.Highly more commercial than previous Dokken albums but a great album nevertheless.Features an arsenal of killer musicians...Peter Baltes(Accept),John Norum(ex-Europe),Billy White(ex-Watchtower),Mickey Dee(ex-King Diamond and current Motorhead).Backing vocals...Kelly Hansen(Hurricane,Unruly Child).

From: ace66 Date: August 14, 2003 at 10:21
Listening now, brilliant from start to finish!!!

From: Rycheage Date: August 21, 2003 at 18:57
Great hard rock CD from the lead singer and namesake of the band Dokken. "Crash & Burn" smokes!! "1000 Miles Away" is pure hard rock heaven. "Forever" and "Mirror Mirror" rock. Highly recommend this one. You can get it relatively cheap on eBay.

From: RR-Finland Date: August 27, 2003 at 17:00
Very good album from Don and I just love the guitar work of John Norum. Motorhead also included someway... This beats 10-0 latest Dokken albums.

From: pablo Date: September 6, 2003 at 8:37

From: Scandinavia Date: September 24, 2003 at 17:52
Try n' forget that Lynch-fart for a moment & listen to the music on this disc instead...I'm not saying this album will go down in history as a classic or anything but most of the tracks are pretty well-written...Nice to hear Mikkey Dee play soft music. He actually does a rather good job! J. Norum is perfect as always & mr. Dokken is just mr. Dokken...Hahaha. But no, don't expect a typical Dokken album. Nice allstar formation too...Best of both worlds!

From: Metal T Date: October 7, 2003 at 20:53
Don really did put together a great line-up for this album.Ive seen Dee live with Motorhead and he was amazing and i caught John Norum a while back when he was in Dokken and he smokes !A cool disc for sure.

From: Josep Maria Date: November 13, 2003 at 13:21
Brilliant album, not as hard-edged as Dokken's album. But is absolutely brilliant!

From: pablo Date: January 15, 2004 at 10:45

From: kskkerim Date: January 19, 2004 at 5:40

From: HURRY UP Date: April 3, 2004 at 14:56
A TRULY MASTERPIECE OF THE BEST HARD ROCK EVER RECORDED EACH TRACK IS A LIL GEM...TEN ON A TEN SCALE,BUY OR DIE

From: Lynchomaniac Date: May 1, 2004 at 10:28
This album is smashin', it's a lot like the Dokken releases but it's slightly more melodic!

From: charvel man Date: May 5, 2004 at 0:05
This album is there. Every song is good. crash and burn is a real rocker, but even the slow songs kind of rock too, if you know what I mean. Down in flames and the hunger are the other two really rockin songs. Tight as a drum production. A smash album after the breakup of Dokken. No Mr Scary here, but the playing is still top notch. Buy it!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 13, 2004 at 0:16
Don sure put together one helluva a band for this album. And they deliver the goods. "One Thousand Miles Away", "Stay", and "Mirror Mirror" would all rank up their with Dokken's best. The album overall is lighter than Don's previous work, but it is still quality. 8/10

From: Desslar Date: June 13, 2004 at 21:50
A very solid album. Not surprisingly it sounds a lot like Dokken, albeit somewhat softer.

From: Border Rat Date: June 16, 2004 at 8:18
This is the best work that Don has ever done.Great vocals coupled with great music equals a masterpiece.Every track is a winner!

From: Finndude Date: June 27, 2004 at 19:57
This album has made a huge impact on me. It is not perfect, but it is still an amazing album. Anyone into the eighties style of metal and hard rock should give it a spin, and that includes kids that are listening to modern-day bands deriving their style from that era. All of the musicians on this album are top-notch, and the sign of a truly good album is that the songs just keep getting better the more you listen to them. That's what happens here! Glorious work by Don & co.

From: Rick Thunder Date: July 14, 2004 at 7:01
THIS ALBUM IS A MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: TIM (2) Date: July 14, 2004 at 7:50
I bought this because of the John Norum connection, as Dokken isn't my bag at all. This is very surprising, some excellent guitar playing and really catchy hard-rock tunes. This is far more commercially appealing than Dokken ever were for me, and there's hardly a dudd tune on here. Given the price you can get this for it's very highly recommended. 8/10.

From: spiritcarrieson Date: August 7, 2004 at 0:09
I picked this up years ago and it is still a great listen. Very god melodies.

From: jeff Date: August 15, 2004 at 21:49
fantastic and brillant enough said.

From: Geoff Date: August 15, 2004 at 22:26
This is another one that needs no further talking up. One of the most finely played, riff friendly melodic hard rock gems around. Man do I love this CD. The razor sharp riffs of 'Crash n' burn','Down in flames'... the wonder of 'Give it up', the pure beauty of 'When love finds a fool' - jeez, what a great album. I love it! Crisp melodic hard rock at it's finest. 8.5/10

From: Steve Newman Date: September 6, 2004 at 21:26
Good album. Probably would have sold more copies if was a Dokken album and if Stay would have been the first single instead of Mirror, Mirror. Overall Stay is the best song on the whole cd and maybe in Don's entire career.

From: T-Bone Date: September 7, 2004 at 2:50
Do a Dokken search on WinMX and somewhere, there'll be a song called Don Dokken - Just A Matter Of Time with Glenn Hughes. It's the demo version of Mirror Mirror. It's pretty cool

From: giorgos-greece Date: September 30, 2004 at 8:17
by far better than any dokken release.Exciting sound , with fantastic melodies and shinning guitars.Don's voice is as good as always

From: Chad Date: October 1, 2004 at 22:15
C'mon last poster, better than any Dokken release? Not even in the hemisphere of Tooth and Nail or Under Lock and Key. Or even Back For the Attack or Breaking for that matter. This is a very solid release and is better than Lynch Mob's Wicked Sensation. Don is a good songwriter but I tend to enjoy the Pilson/Lynch written songs. I thought the songs that credit all members were some of the best. Too bad they couldn't get along to put out more albums. They were the pinnacle back in the day.

From: Erik Date: October 31, 2004 at 1:10
I think dokken has always had the sweetest guitarist in it. Like Reb Beach, George Lynch and John Norum. Its just solid band

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: November 22, 2004 at 1:53
DOKKEN FUE LA BANDA QUE ME METIO DE LLENO EN EL MUNDO DE HARD MELODICO, Y FUE MI MAS GRANDE GRUPO HASTA CONOCER MAS MOUNTRUOS EN ESTE ESTILO, POR ESO SIEMPRE ESTARA EN MI CORAZON Y SERA UNO DE MIS GRUPOS FAVORITOS DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS. ESTE ALBUM ES UNA VERDADERA JOYA, UN CLASICO ABSOLUTO UN ALBUM DE HARD MELODICO Y NO METAL COMO LO PONEN, LA MAYORIA DE TEMAS SON BALADAS A MEDIO TIEMPO MUY BUENAS. MI FAVORITO ES FOREVER . ALEJANDRO QUE PENA ME DAS, NO SABES NADA DE BUENA MUSICA.

From: Propane Date: November 30, 2004 at 10:48
Good job once again, from Don. Keep up the good work.

From: Andii Vamp Date: December 18, 2004 at 1:50
GOD i missed playing this album when my ex stole a lot of my stuff back a few years ago and i am finally regaining all my lost stuff and this album was one of them. Have it spinning right now after so many years without it and it's amazing... simply amazing stuff... even today! Dokken were an amazing band and this album by Don is a blinder from start to finish. Fave song is The Hunger.. or mayve Stay... or... or... ah sod it.. loved all this album and still do.

From: Steve Newman Date: January 24, 2005 at 19:45
It's to bad the album didn't sell that well. It would probabky would have sold better if it were a Dokken album. It's totally awesome. Stay is the best song ever recorded.

Obra maestra inconmensurable ,música mágica perfectamente compuesta, interpretada y producida.Geniales especialmente Don Dokken&John Norum

From: JF Date: September 9, 2005 at 8:24

From: juan carlos Date: December 16, 2005 at 14:22

From: Remastered Reason Date: January 22, 2006 at 21:50
An excellent melodic disc. It has some real commercial appeal. Far better than anything he has done with Dokken since "Back For The Attack".

This is Don't last truly great release. Most of the Dokken material from the last 11 years don't measure up to this one! Yes, it's a bit softer than the 80s Dokken sound, but the quality is everywhere on this disc. I remember 'Mirror Mirror' as the single being played on the radio (I think it even got a nomination on either the AMA or the Grammys in '91). Wasn't he working on a 2nd solo CD in '92? I wonder what happened to that.

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: October 17, 2006 at 17:08

From: Albert Date: November 8, 2006 at 14:27
Vaya pedazo de disco y menuda producción!!! perfecto! 10/10

From: Nix Date: November 10, 2006 at 5:29
A Great Melodic Hard Rock album. Though it's not as hard as Dokken, it sounds like Dokken with more melodicness. My favorite song here is 'Crash 'N Burn'. It's a masterpiece of a song. 'Living A Lie' is great too. Most of the songs are really good. Highly Recommended Melodic Hard Rock album. 9.5/10

From: makarasfate Date: March 29, 2007 at 21:36
Very good album and amazing musicianship, my favorite song on this album is crash and burn. Heres the band members Don Dokken-vocals (Dokken duh!), John Norum-guitar (Europe), Billy White-guitar (Watchtower), Peter Baltes-bass (Accept), Mikkey Dee-(Motorhead,King Diamond). By the way Bily white is a better guitar player than John Norum...

From: jessiefingers Date: June 22, 2007 at 17:07
Awesome guitar riffs!!! I wish these guys got together and made more music like this. Don sings really nicelly on here too.

From: lalorock Date: October 11, 2007 at 21:10

From: AOR-MESSIAH Date: December 10, 2007 at 15:52
Love this CD, bought it when it came out and still listen to it now. The musicianship is as good as I've heard, Don Dokken's voice on this is unbelievably good, carries the songs perfectly, sings the ballads beautifully and injects plenty of soul/emotion and fun into the recording. John Norum's guitar playing is sublime and complements Dokken's voice. If you liked the Dokken releases, or the John Norum early releases this is a must. At the price it sells for you can't go wrong.

From: metalmastermusic Date: July 1, 2008 at 8:24
This is an excellent solo release, it suprised me as I am a huge Dokken fan and this was not to far off from the sound. Excellent vox and very good guitars although I will always be partial to Lynch but Norum does well in his own respect. Anyway my faves on this one are tracks 1,2, 10 and 11. If only all solo albums could be this good. 88/100

From: ace66 Date: September 21, 2008 at 22:11
Another album superbly executed and yes,in my all time top 20!

From: thekid585 Date: November 23, 2008 at 19:20
EXITO!!!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 10, 2011 at 21:05
Very good release surely!!! ...good songs that ranges from kinda Melodic Hard Rock in its "softer" side and some mid tempos...along with Don there are excellent musicians in here too !!!...my faves are "Crash'N'Burn","One Thousand Miles Away","When Some Nights"(brilliant from the rest!),"Living A Lie","Give It Up" & "Mirror Mirror"...good 2 have this one...86/100

From: happy2849 Date: March 7, 2011 at 15:05
A great solo release from Don and boys. A mixture of harder stuff with right amount of melody to bring back memories. One of the few I find myself going back to more then others.

From: the rocker Date: November 29, 2011 at 19:35
We will never know what we could have had if the band had stayed together,BUT! what we did get was 2 GREAT cds, this one and Lynch Mob. One of my favorite cds period! The production the talent involved the songs, AWESOME! Start to finish, I recommend.

From: edwithmj Date: December 10, 2012 at 15:40
Fantastic disc. It sounds nothing like Dokken except for the voice of course. This is very well played hard rock. Living a Lie and Give It Up are my favourites.

From: 123charpenay Date: December 13, 2013 at 13:33
in my top ten for ....eternity.sensational,extraordinary, fabulous ,ect ect ect.this record is a real masterpiece.all songs are some pure jewels with an orgy of guitars.an absolute dream for all hard rock s fans all over the world.listen to the extraordinary solo of "crash n burn" (for example).more than a killer cd :a must have absoluty essential in all serious melodic hard rock collection.unfortunatelly no bonus track on the japan import.

From: Thomas/Coastline Date: March 8, 2014 at 10:17
Some really nice songs on offer here and overall great performances. I can see why Norum joined the band between solo albums as he really liked Dokken, Scorpions and guitar based bands. Melodic Hardrock at it's finest.

From: edwithmj Date: February 14, 2015 at 12:32
This really is possibly the best thing Don Dokken has ever done. From the opener, it's easy to tell the flawless production and tight rhythm section. Crash N' Burn: wow what an opener with a perfect solo; 1000 Miles Away has wonderful backing vocals; When Some Nights has powerful bass and a wonderful rhythm; Forever is a great semi-ballad with very catchy vocals; Living A Lie again has amazing catchy vocals; When Love Finds... is a superb ballad and even without keyboards, is one of my favourite ballads; Give It Up: a song I've heard 100 times and will hear again another 100 times, simply a great solo and brilliant, meaningful lyrics; Mirror Mirror is about as filler as this album gets but is still very good; Stay has a wonderful mellow opening and then explodes with a super riff; Down in Flames has those trademark catchy Dokken lyrics again as does The Hunger which I think borders on speed metal a bit. One of the best albums on this site by far and one my favourites.

From: djimenezgarcia Date: March 28, 2015 at 10:47

The best album Don Dokken ever recorded. Due to brilliant musicianship as well this CD should be in Top 100 hard rock relases. If you are melodic hard rock fan don't miss this CD.
