Lakonia almost ruins this album entirely with her lame caterwauling. Her limp intro vocals to Father Father and She Got Nine Lives are just plain pathetic. The music is certainly heavy enough for the most part - except for the wheezing sax on The Fire Still Burns. With very, very, very few exceptions, sax sounds gutless and out of place in a metal setting. Yet, the inclusion of sax takes a backseat to Lakonia's constant yelping, which amounts to a lethal dose of overkill, and drags this album down considerably. Chick vocals are okay in moderation, but that woozy wench is EVERYWHERE on this album. I was happy when they really cut back on her contributions (and I use that term loosely) on their Utopia album released two years after this one. Apparently, I wasn't alone in my condemnation of Lakonia, as many fans were less than thrilled to find her plastered all over every vocal track on Doom Of Destiny. |

A very complete comment by Axelinger...anyway Axxis has been a band that even though it has managed to grab attention through the years still is kinda underrated...i saw this act live when they were just releasing their debut album "Kingdom Of The Night"(1989) as a support act to Black Sabbath("Headless Cross Tour)and they were like some kind of promising new band at that stage...good songs is what you find here with that specific sound that Axxis delivers,"Voices Of Destiny"(epic intro),"Doom Of Destiny(Arabia)","Better Fate","Blood Angel","The Fire Still Burns"(nice ballad with that "annoying" sax that makes it quite interesting but overall curious),"Devilish Belle"( ![]() ![]() ![]() |
