Possibly the finest AOR album ever made.Promises is a masterpiece.Saw WS on the 1986 UK tour and met them after the show, and it remains a special moment 15 years later.

THE ULTIMATE AOR RECORD!!!! This is the 'Thriller' or 'Like a Virgin' of 80's AOR, totally heavy and yet still very melodic. This is the soundtrack to the lives of every long haired, leather jacket wearing bad boy teenage rebel in the 80's. And yes, 'promises' is truly an 80's teen anthem with a great story... it was just rereleased so go out and get it!

I totally agree with the above mentioned comments. This is definetely one of the best melodic rock records ever. Just listen to tracks like Can't say no or Breakin all the rules and you know what I mean. Too bad that this band never made it big cause they really deserved it. What a killer record!!!!!! SEE YA

Tracks 3,4,5,6 and 7 are all total killer heavy melodic rock. Great album but I think the production took some power away from the songs. 9.5 out of 10

Had the cassette of this for years. Finally got the cd last year. Underrated band. Great, melodic songs. 3 of the guys from this band formed Tattoo Rodeo, which sounded nothing like White Sister. Both bands are great though.

If you listen to the lyrics in 'Whips', there's definitely a tribute or reference to Punky Meadows. The song is basically about him but in a more flattering light than the song Zappa did.

What we get is heavy melodic pomp rock at it's finest. Journey meets Angel. Gregg Guiffria has given this album a fairly tight and compressed mix, especially the rhythm section, which gives the guitars and keyboards ample space to breathe. The vocals are shared between Churchill-Dries and Brandon, and both are great on the respective songs they sing, but I think Churchill-Dries probably sings with more passion and urgency.

I heard this album a long time ago (mid 80's), I don't remember much about it except I remember I liked most of it, though I don't remember liking it enough to drop $30+ for it. Too bad it is soooo hard to find.

A truly stunning debut! It goes for $30?!! (Last posters comment)- is this for the CD or L.P.? - I have an unworn W.S. Fashion By Passion tour t-shirt somewhere - must dig it out! - By the way U.K. W.Sister/trivia fans! - The woman on the cover of Fashion By Passion is the ex-wife of Jim Davidson! 'Nick-nick' indeed.

Melodic rock classic-Dennis Churchills voice is sublime and the Keys and Guitars are awesome. A slightly better production on some tracks would have elevated this album to true classic status ALA Angel Sinful but a really really strong release all the same.

White Sister, is possibly, THE best band to have come around in the past 40 yrs. hehehehe I mean the music is just beautifuly done. Classic 80's slasher film soundtrack music, THE best music there is. Dennis Churchill's voice is AWESOME, as is everybody's, when they harmonize, their voices blend perfectly. The track listing for the 3rd album demos are: 1. RESTLESS HEART 2. EVERYBODY WANTS WHAT SHE'S GOT 3. FIRST TIME (IS?) FOREVER 4. TELL ME WHY 5. ONE WAY LOVE Now I love Tattoo Rodeo, but the o

One of the best aor albums songwise, akmost ruined by one of the worst production jobs. Having said that, the guitar sound is great on this album. It gives these songs a pretty raw feeling. The last track is a stinker, but the rest is excellent. 10/10

Man, I got to break this one out again! If not for 'Whips' this would be perfect. Massive melodic hard rock with some of the most passionate moments in history on record - each song taken to with reckless abandon and every intention of making it a classic in melodic hard rock history. Just a killer disc, and yeah the production is a shame but the songs sure aren't. How good are the first three songs! And 'Can't say no'! All of them! 9.4/10

Man, I HATED this album when it was first released. My friends and I used to make fun of the band that had leg warmers on the front cover picture! I always thought that the opener,Don't say that you're mine was a pretty good track. I just recently pulled this out of a box of old cassettes and played it.Much better than I remember it.I guess my tastes have changed from when I was 14!While this is pretty good AOR,I don't plan on seeking out the cd at least not at the $30 price noted. Not bad though.

Classic release - Y&T meets Journey is how i would describe this one. A little heavy to be considered a pure AOR release, but an excellent and most importantly consistently good one throughout. This contains two of my favourite tracks of the time, namely 'Can't Say No' & 'Promises' - killer both of them. ' Whips' is also a great track ,written by Angel's Punk Meadows if i remember. Special note for Dennis Churchills amazing vocals.

great album.(considering i found it in a thrift store)although thrift stores kick some major ass. This album is one of the best that ive found that wasnt one of the major hair bands and ive seen and heard more than most. These guys also have some of the best metal hair. Great vocalist.

AN ABSOLUTE MONSTER OF A HARD ROCK ALBUM...AOR may apply to some of it, but this is straight-up 80s hard rock at its melodic best. 'Love Don't Make It Right' and 'Promises' are simply stunning and perfect, and the entire album is consistent & well-performed. The guitars are meaty but not over-the-top, the keyboards are flowing and anthemic, and the vocals provide the cohesive bond for it all. I don't give a 10/10 all that often, but will gladly do so here. This one is VITAL!

I've waited to listen again this cd before write a comment....WOW!!WOW!!I thought their best cd was'fashion by passion',what a shame!!ahahaha! That's killer aor from start to finish, one of the best aor cd ever heard, killer songwriting in every single second, essential for life!!Their second in comparrison is really weak and forgattable even if I like a lot(some song is great indeed). My rate is 10/10(this cd is 10,000 times better than Fortune/s.t.'85!).That's my personal opinion as always....

Man, you can not do wrong with this stuff. ALL the songs are for me mind-blowing, except 'whips' which really sucks; this is a spare song! My favourites are 'promises', 'love don´t make it right', 'don´t say that you´re mine' and 'straight to your heart'. 9,9/10 ('whips' lefts over!!)

Well, yes, killer Riffs and great keyboards but as someone said a bit messy at times and not a great production either. Good chorus and great drums sound. 'Promises' 'Breakin' All the Rules' and 'Straight From the Heart' are my faves. Sorry guys but This one is not a classic IMHO. 8.5/10

this is a n important release for hard rock music.not so many bands back then had the quality of white sister.they managed to combine raw power with great melodies and the result is ahuge debut.after 25 years it sounds so fresh and strong.i saw them last year live and they were really impressive.listen to the anthems" promises","straight from the heart","love dont make it right"and the beautiful "just for you".briliant!

Amazing album, probably my favourite Hard Rock album ever - Can't Say No, Promises and Just For You would all be among my top 100 songs. Couple of tracks don't maintain the giddy standard, but without them, it would be perfect, and at 8 tracks far better value than most albums with 12 or 13 tracks including plenty of filler. Incredible.

Very talented band!
