In my opinion Black Dog Barking (2013) is their best album with debut Running Wild (2007) coming in as a close second. No Guts, No Glory (2010) has 4-5 highlights and the best parts of Breakin' Outta Hell are no match for those, so this 2016 effort is the worst in their catalogue. Sad but true. Energy is still there, but the songwriting is seriously lacking the hooks.

Tentacle took the words right out of my mouth. It seems that they put out good stuff every two albums. Running Wild was a hell of a debut album, No Guts No Glory didn't have the same quality of songwriting plus it was way too long. Black Dog Barking was great, and it seemed like the band had evolved, even somewhat matured on that album. So I was very much looking forward to Breakin' Outta Hell, but unfortunately this is another album that - hopefully! - falls between two great albums. The guys can grind out riffs, but I find the songs way too repetitive. Also, I can't help but feel embarrassed about the lyrics. Yes, this is booze rock, meant to play loud while you're having a party. But still, even the debut album had more imagination with the lyrics. This feels like lazy work; as if the band didn't really bother to do their best. Just rush together some riffs with lyrics that don't have anything to say really. Come on guys, not everyone wants to listen to your music drunk as hell!

I actually like this disc, although I agree that Running Wild is still the gold standard for these guys. I also admit that they survive largely on the power of the riff. And a great riff can save an otherwise lackluster song like "Alll For Rock 'n' Roll." I cringe through the chorus, but the smile is back everytime that riff rolls around. So if Running Wild is Airbourne's Back In Black, Breakin' Outta Hell isn't exactly their Blow Up Your video, and it's certainly no Stiff Upper Lip. The only song I really don't like is, naturally, the single "Rivalry," but favorites are "Get Back Up," "Never Too Loud," "Going To Hell" and "Down On You" despite its almost Steeel Panther-like lyrics. "Do Me" and "I Go Crazy" aren't bad either.
