There's no hope for this disc from the beginning you know you're on the TITANIC & it's sinkng fast. Buy their first disc, while it's not a classic it atleast holds your attention & there are some good riffs on it. AVOID A/2 2.0 rating

I agree. I bought this cd and I ended up purposely scratching it and bringing it back to the store for a refund! This cd had poorly written songs, no beat or rhythm, and Stephen Pearcy sounds like a wounded cat with a firecracker up his ass! Don't bother with this one. The first Arcade was far better. I would give this cd a negative 4, but the scale don't go down that far! 1.0 will have to do!

I don't always agree with what other reviewers write on albums; I'm not a total suck-up. But, boy is A/2 bad. If you are interested in the concept of purchasing an Arcade album, by all means buy their first and ONLY good studio release, their self-titled debut from '93. You would think that a band w/ compromised of Stephen Pearcy, singer formerly of Ratt, Frankie Wilsex from Sea Hags (guitars) and Fred Coury of Cinderella (drums), that you would have a stellar album--not the case here.

Big letdown after the debut. Attempts to sound grunge and pretty much appalls everyone in the process. Avoid.

Their debut was good. This one is merely OK. It almost sounds rushed, some of the songs seem like incomplete ideas. Not completely bad, but a letdown after the first.

Stephen Pearcy (Ratt) returns to front this band for their sophomore album, but the alternative-flavored results are a huge disappointment considering that ARCARDE's debut was a good slab of melodic hard rock. I think I would rather eat rat turds than listen to this abomination again. If this is the best the band can deliver nowadays, they need to close up shop, right now.

This is in response to The Frost...A/3 is a LIVE cd. It was also their final release. It's a very good cd. Over all it's better than the 2nd cd and about equal to the first one. Definately worth searching for.

Well I'll be damned! Eating my words and shoving them to the back of my throat--AGAIN!! I find myself now in agreement with nitodoll on A/2. T-BONE, your statement regarding this album "no beat or rhythm" is completely ludicrous. Coury is an exceptional drummer and his work with Andrews on this record is fantastic. It is not often that the rhythm section (particularly the bass instrument) is as prevalent as it is on Arcade's second record. This is great raunch rock 'n' roll. Buy a drum machine.

I LIKED BOTH OF ARCADE'S PREVIOUS RELEASES. THE FIRST WAS MORE KILLER THAN THE 2ND BUT THERE ARE A FEW GOOD TRACKS ON A/2 THAT STAND OUT. I RECENTLY FOUND A/3-LIVE AND UNRELEASED AND IT IS KICKASS ALL THE WAY. CONTAINS MAINLY TRACKS FROM THE FIRST ARCADE CD. THIS CD ALONG WITH HIS NEW SOLO CD, OTHER SIDE PROJECT CDS THAT HE IS FEATURED ON HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE AT HIS RECENT CONCERTS. FRANKIE WILSEX FROM ARCADE/SEA HAGS IS TOURING WITH STEPHEN PEARCY ONCE AGAIN IN HIS SOLO BAND (NITRONIC).

Once again I'm in the minority(what's new?) but I loved this disc- not quite as good as the first but songs like "So What""Your only age" and "Room With a View" are killer. Seems to me like anytime a band gets heavier, someone tosses the grunge label on it. When i think of grunge I think of a certain group who could barely tune their guitars or write decent(comprehensible)lyrics. Not to mention signing to a major label and then bitch about getting famous.

Does anyone ever understand anything about the music business. When the first record came out, Nirvana was changing things. That album would've been huge a couple of years earlier. So they tried to comform to more of a grunge style, topped off with unannounced personel changes, and people didn't appreciate the effort. With all that was layed on Stephen's shoulder's, he should be praised, not bashed.

'Welcome' has the same chuga-chuga rhythm than Higher Ground by RHCP. At the end, Stephen even sings 'People.....', with almost the same melody as in Higher Ground.

Just to let ya'll know, since noone seems to have figured it out yet, but, Michael Andrews is better known as Mike Duda from W.A.S.P. He's been doing various side jobs here and there since being with Blackie and Co. If anyone's ever seen him live, it wouldn't be surprising to understand why Coury and Mike sound so great together on Rhythem. Mike's excellent on Bass, and as a singer in his own right, and it's alot more fun for me personally to focus on his playing than on Pearcy's vocals.

A1 - One of the best Hard Rock CD's ever. Didn't like A2 at all. Picked it up a few years later, gave it some time, now I think its great. So What, the Move, Room w/View, good stuff.

Not as "alternative" or "grunge" as some people try to make out,just a bit different is all. I bought this one before I bought the debut & I was not disapointed at all. Some great attitude music on this one!

Agree with CC. This album is about as alternate or grungy as a Ratt disc. I find it odd when people find the reason for a shit disc as the band selling out. Yes, there are some awful songs here but they're just bad hard rock songs, not grunge or alternate songs. I think this is not quite as good as the debut, but 'When I'm gone' is a great ballad and 'Room with a view' is very cool too. Pretty simple and unimpressive hard rock overall, but it ain't the worst out there.

Not a bad disc and not NEAR what they did on the first one. As Geoff said above definitely not the worst out there and for the year(1994) its not bad at all. It's a shame the direction OUR music was going. Alternative, grunge etc. Rap was around the corner and now I am making myself sick! Yeah this disc ain't great but I will take it over what was to come in the music industry.

Yep, this one was a big dud for me. Even with the bonus track on my Japanese version. I thought the first release was decent and hoped they would continue and maybe improve in some areas, but that's not the case here. I think they were trying to change their sound and fit in with the times. Instead they drove a lot of fans away.

This album was made in a time when music was terrible. Lets be honest all the industry support was going to garbage (Nirvana) bands. There was no chance for hard rock/heavy metal bands of this ilk to make a splash. This is their attempt to find their footing in the new territory. I admit its not perfect but, a few decent cuts are here. Pearcy sounds like himself singing music that doesn't fit to his voice much of the time. I do find some of the material rubbish but I like some of it as well.

i remember reading an interview with stephen pearcy when they released this and he said "don't think you know me or the music i make because of what i did with ratt" i found that strange as i love ratt i didn't hear the first album from this band but thought this was ok i don't think it's grunge because i fucking despise grunge but it is heavy and down tuned i thought there was some good songs on here but no great ones and i must admit i don't pull it out that often to listen to it i must check out the first album as i hear it's good i will always much prefer ratt though

More comments written on this one rather than in their really good first effort...some weird "grungy" sound in some songs but somehow nice..the year (1994) probably was the responsible of the sound used...anyway the best shots are "Chain To Me","Room With A View" & "Hot Racin'" why? because the conserved some essence of the debut album...some moments probably are "Angry","The Move","So What","Welcome" & "Your Only Age"...Stephen tried to sing kinda of different,another vibe to the songs...89/100

I actually bought this one on import back in 1994 (on cassette no less) not knowing what to expect as I hadnt heard anything from the debut. From those first chunky chords of Angry I was hooked. There is a couple of songs on it that arent as good as the others, but overall its a very solid release. Hot Racing always stood out to me as not fitting the rest of the album, and once I heard the debut I realised it was a lot more in the style of that one, and was certainly the most Ratt sounding song on the album. Angry is one of those songs that whenever I hear it, I have to crank the volume for that intro. Nice mixture of meaty hooks and mellowed out ballad styles on here. I actually prefer this to the debut, but both were great.

Very interesting cd. Still a bit odd to think of a party monster like him with a Rock-Against-Drugs poster boy like Fred Coury. Tuned down guitars and very dry, driving riffs, with the bass up front and center might catch you off guard and seem a bit 'slow' for this kind of band, but by song 4 "Get off My Back", you catch the groove. Where it might seem like DeMartini is absent, the gameplay between bassist Michael Andrews and drummer Coury make up for it, playing a tight rhythm game of follow-the-bassist, very unusual for the 'hair band' style of simply pumping a beat with the drums and leaving the bass all but unheard. "When I'm Gone" is slow,"Welcome" is awesome with a real twist at the end. The guitarists show just enough restraint before ripping it up."Kidnapped", another groove heavy rocker, and ultimately you've gotta be in the mood for a more mid-tempo, slightly heavier 'not-RATT', and that's the point. It's NOT RATT, it's Arcade. They're doing their own thing and it works.

Different sound with this record, more raw, interesting stuff. This is a completely different band, Not Ratt. en mi opinión un cambio de dirección total y un segundo salto con este album de parte de Stephen Pearcy buscando desligarse por completo del sonido de su anterior banda. No es lo que más me gusta pero con apertura se puede apreciar el esfuerzo de estos músicos por buscar nuevos caminos en un momento en que todas las estrellas de los 80 estaban al margen de la moda. Al final ya sabemos que pasó ahora más de 15 años después. Simplemente manetniendo la vigencia en tiempos bajos para el Hard Rock.
