yhink about it this isthe grour valentine under a different name

From: Rich Date: August 9, 2001 at 14:00
Saw these guys live and thought they were good. Vocalist very much like Steve Perry/Augeri. I wonder who Hugo is?

From: Jennifer Date: August 29, 2001 at 12:36
Saw them live as Valentine and they were much better. The drummer Neil didn't tour with Open Skyz...why not? He was sorely missed

From: James Date: December 29, 2001 at 16:35
Good album. "Everyday Of My Life" has some exicelent guitar work in it.

From: tomcat Date: May 22, 2002 at 6:39
i almost forgot how beautiful this cd is... glad i have it. tomcat@dolfijn.nl

From: motley Date: May 27, 2002 at 17:13
I thought open Skyz was first??and tehn they turned inot Valentine...

From: koogles Date: July 8, 2002 at 20:35
Hugo's voice has been given better material since this release, but there's no denying that "Nothing Without You" and "Golden Years" are deliciously good AOR tunes. Journey fans will be looking for drier pants after they finish listening to this soft, but effective, release.

From: aubrey Date: July 27, 2002 at 22:28
i always loved track #7 although the person who introduced me to this song is forgotten but not the song..

From: Steve T Date: July 28, 2002 at 11:25
Great album as was Valentine. Valentine came first...then Open Skyz.

From: Pierre Date: July 29, 2002 at 16:54
Overlooked gem. 10/10

From: nitrodoll Date: August 27, 2002 at 5:31
beautiful album....some songs are amazing 'candy from strangers', 'open skys" etc etc..only the opening song 'none of it matters' is in my opinion not so good like the version 'blackeyed susan' recorded.. nitrodoll1974@hotmail.com

From: Gar Date: October 9, 2002 at 23:20
Got this one a couple of days ago, based on the favorable reviews here. I'm not disappointed. This is good melodic AOR a la Journey or Jimi Jamison era Survivor. Blackeyed Susan's "None of it Matters" IS slightly better, though.

From: robert Date: October 21, 2002 at 10:16

From: Gabi Date: January 3, 2003 at 20:17

From: Jimbob Date: April 15, 2003 at 16:40
just got both of Hugo's solo records, totally amazing stuff. If you like Open Skyz and Valentine, you will flip for Hugos solo records

From: GlenRavine Date: April 29, 2003 at 12:58
Unreal - this is beautiful music - track 3 is just breathtaking. Highly recommended - love Hugo's Steve Perry-esque voice. 'Golden Years' has to be one of the better rocker ballads out there - great melody throughout the DISC.

From: XLNT Date: September 24, 2003 at 8:17
Good record, but after listening to the rest of Hugo’s work I must say that this is the weakest of them. Both the Valentine album and his solo work are far more consistent. There are some highlights here like Golden Years and the acoustic Answer, but the band seems unfocused at times and the quality of the songwriting varies. Open Skyz has it’s fair share of fillers, and I don’t care what Hugo thinks of his version of Give a little bit. Adding a na,na,na,na chorus to it, is not an improvement

From: tomcat Date: September 24, 2003 at 8:32
beautiful album....some songs are amazing 'candy from strangers', 'open skys" etc etc..only the opening song 'none of it matters' is in my opinion not so good like the version 'blackeyed susan' recorded..Hugo has an original and beautiful voice.

From: eurphoria Date: November 7, 2003 at 6:14
well we have a person(Tomcat) who got violated by someone when they were a kid because why on this planet would you copy another review ? guess you cant think of your own originality/identity but hey this album if they wouldve commented the right way well i dont think much about it only the steve perry cloning is stupid and try again.

From: Joker from Phil Date: November 21, 2003 at 2:54
"Pickin up the pieces again" is a smooth song...Good Execution by HUGO..where can I download MP3 of "pickin up the pieces again" and other songs from them?

From: Harvey Date: November 26, 2003 at 19:10
This was a nice little stop gap album until Steve Perry finally released For The Love oF Strange Medicine. Listen to Nothing Without You...Perryisms all over it!!!!!

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 24, 2004 at 17:38
why soften up the sound when with valentine they had the perfect formula!.....i wish i knew the answer...anyway this is quite an excellent release by its own merits.

From: Lety Date: March 13, 2004 at 0:39
Does anyone know where I can find Valentines album? I cant find a thing about them on the internet! PLEASE help!

From: Rockhead Date: March 13, 2004 at 5:02
Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay-copies do appear quite frequently. i got a japanese version a little while ago that DIDNT break the Bank. I can provide a CDR if your interested

From: peter poland Date: March 31, 2004 at 17:48
Maybe i have to reconsider my opinion, and this album is worth a chance to second listen, but i wasn\t suprise. For me it's just something betwen 5-6 / 10

From: Rockhead Date: April 1, 2004 at 4:35
I love this cd, my wife loves this cd, in fact everyone i know loves this Cd. Hugo is awesome and the songs are perfect aor earcandy (to me anyway) I love the cover of give a little bit-but overall the whole cd works very well for me.

From: T-Bone Date: April 1, 2004 at 6:26
He has a new one coming out soon also called Fire In The Night. It's more like his solo cd's. I recommend his first solo cd from 1996 called Hugo. It's awesome. Valentine from 1990 is also awesome, but it's a little hard to come by sometimes

From: AOR freaky Date: April 1, 2004 at 7:39
Well, well, well : Rockhead and T-Bone like the mighty Hugo ! What a surprise ! But it is sooo strange if you like this, that you dislike Pride Of Lions or Norway ! Can't explain it at all !, because how good Hugo may be, his work is not as good as Pride Of Lions or Norway, to name these ! But, good to see you guys like this one !

From: Rockhead Date: April 1, 2004 at 12:45
Listen Mini-Freaky I bought Valentine's album the Week it came out-I have been buying rock music for over 25 years, and like most of the decent people I have across on this board I do not have to like every bloody cd just because it comes with an aor banner. Norway are amateur, part timers. The 2nd Cd was fine the Debut was made unlistenable to me by a dreadful production. Pride of Lions is hyped beyond belief and is pretty bland. Most people on this site seem to be pretty unbiased-your not 1

From: Rockhead Date: April 1, 2004 at 12:51
Cont... Your not 1 of them. I cannot take any of your views seriously and this is a shame because I actually like alot (but not all) of your choices. The reason for this is Good, Bad or Indifferent, every cd that falls into the AOR criteria is excellent in your eyes (the Norway Debut is a perfect example of this blind adoration). To defend mediocre Cd's to this extreme is proof positive that you are sooooooooooooo blinkered.

From: AOR freaky Date: April 2, 2004 at 3:47
Thanks for all those nice compliments, Rockhead ! I'm following the scene for about 40 years now, so still 15 years longer than you ! I've seen how hardrock has been build up over the years, untill now. Everything has already been done, and mostly better. I think we can agree about that. So not one single person has to tell me that some bands or artists bring us some new music or that there is a new genre ! It's all recycling, and since the nineties, mostly very bad. And sorry for my english !

From: AOR freaky Date: April 2, 2004 at 3:55
After all, it's not my mother tongue ! And I'm not defending every AOR record at all (I don't like Ambrosia etc.). I'm also a big pomp fan, a prog rock and prog metal fan and I also like pure hardrock, melodic metal etc. The only things I 'hate' are rock 'n roll acts à la Black Crowes, which are Stones clones, acoustic nonsense, and alternative (so called modern) rock = nu-metal and nu-breed. Clear ? End of discussion !

From: Rockhead Date: April 2, 2004 at 4:13
Old age is obviously muddling your brain

From: Rockhead Date: April 2, 2004 at 4:17
Freaky i am intrigued-40 years? was there a "scene" 40 years ago? My music history might be limited but there were no real Rock acts in the 60's-the genre on this board was still to be invented. Unless you mean you followed the "Rock n Roll" acts of the day(those very bands you claim here not to like). Which acts that far back were you into?

From: AOR freaky Date: April 2, 2004 at 6:15
Rockhead, all began in the mid-sixties, man ! First foundations for what later was named hardrock were Jimmy H., Doors, The Who, Iron Butterfly, Bue Cheer, Steppenwolf, even Kinks etc. Then came Purple, Heep, Sabbath, Montrose, B.O.C. and all bands they were in before (Them, Elf etc. etc. !). Are you following !? My brain is still intact, my body not ! Good enough for you. What kind of insults do you still have ? Have I ever insulted you PERSONALLY ? ! NO ! You're insulting me the whole time !

From: Rockhead Date: April 2, 2004 at 7:55
Lighten up Freaky-I'm just messin with ya!! However you WERE INSULTING not just to me (not that i care) but to MJ T-Bone and others. The reason I keep responding is because i enjoy the banter, and you do leave yourself wide open for it because of the messages you post. If I have struck a nerve, that was not the intention. The fact that you keep responding indicates you quite like the thrill of the chase.

From: Rockhead Date: April 2, 2004 at 7:57
cont... I would like to discuss some of the comments regarding certain Cd;s on a more detailed level as would some other people here (if their comments are anything to go by). How about a session on the message boards over the weekend?

From: Rycheage Date: April 4, 2004 at 17:57
Banter aside, this is a brilliant piece of AOR. Production is crisp and clear. Hugo's vocals are in excellent form. Best tracks are "Nothing Without You", "Every Day Of My Life", and the title track. Worth the money especially if you are a Journey or Valentine fan. Track it down.

From: jessica96fish Date: July 29, 2004 at 6:40
love hugos voice.sounds so much like journey.but i still like this cd.a must have cd.

From: clan gordon Date: September 18, 2004 at 0:03
i miss the song!its bin 1 decade i want to revive it

From: Rocker10 Date: October 30, 2004 at 19:46
Very solid aor masterpiece. Followed Hugo after Valentine thru this band and then on to his solo crew. Very cool vocalist. 9/10

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: November 28, 2004 at 11:08

From: Axe Machine Date: November 28, 2004 at 15:38
Hugo's weakest release, and it's still a classic! everything the man touches turns to gold! 9/10, and well worth tracking down!

From: Geoff Date: December 7, 2004 at 4:36
I guess I don't mind this one. Not the hugest fan of Hugo and this did nothing to change my feelings, but I do think the album has a pretty good, clean crisp sound. If the debut Valentine album was this well produced I might have liked it a little more, but that said 'Candy from strangers' is a great song and overall it's not an awful album. I do admit to preferring the Valentine debut quite a bit though.

From: MAURICIO Date: January 8, 2005 at 18:14

TE DESANGRARAS OYENDO NOTHING WITHOUT YOU-THE ANSWER.y para todos aquellos seguidores de JOURNEY aqui tienen otra RESPUESTA A NUESTRAS PLEGARIAS.10/10

From: Nick C Date: March 23, 2005 at 16:59
Coo! can't believe I haven't commented on this. I prefer this to the fantastic Valentine release. It has quite a few softer songs on Picking Up the Pieces Again is an excellent ballad for anyone who has loved and lost .. sob! Candy From Strangers I guess is the stand out rocker and there is a very credible version of Supertramps Give a Little Bit. Yeah I really like this CD .. in fact as soon as I get outta work I'm going to put it in the old CD player...Ahhh Summer is on it's way!!

Basically 'Valentine 2' under a different name, and with a liter sound. 'Nothing Else Matters' is one of my alltime favourite tracks, and definately one of Hugo's finest hours. The rest of this album is excellent aswell (even the Supertramp cover). A real shame that this one seemed to get overlooked, as it is a monster of an album

From: z4roxx Date: March 24, 2005 at 9:40
If you expect another album as"Valentine"please don't throw away your money. This is boring melodick rock/aor done by great musicians,it's a shame that musicians like Valentine made a cd like this one.I can save some song for Hugo vocals and melodies but this crap,IMO.4/10.

From: juan carlos Date: May 28, 2006 at 0:30
Temas como "nothing without you", "golden years" o "candy from strangers" son muy buenas.

From: XabDeth Date: October 24, 2007 at 19:14

PICKIN' UP THE PIECES AGAIN, QUE CANCION, este grupo me encanta.

Album it just depressing, "EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE" is about the only rockin track boring and I think HUGO has forgotten how to sing...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

Excellent album for OPEN SKYZ with x VALENTINE members trying to get a new direction towards a more JOURNEY sound! The quality is of the highest level and overall a fine album with great production and many good songs but still no big hit among them!"open skyz","take me there" are the highlights
