James LaBrie, the voice of Dream Theater, doing straight ahead, hook-heavy hard rock. Love it! A must-have for DT fans.

From: Razzman Date: April 18, 2001 at 21:46
Fantastic! James LaBrie has one of the best voices ever! Find this album , buy it, steal it if you have too. Great up tempo rock and roll. There is nothing bad to say about this album at all. Wow!

From: T-BONE Date: August 15, 2001 at 12:49
Totally agree. I stumbled across a song from this on Napster(when it was untainted) I had to find the rest of the cd and paid $32 for it. Great harmonies and musicianship on this one. Any AOR or Hard rock fan must find this cd and grab it.

From: Red Devil Date: November 28, 2001 at 16:40
This album kick ass!!!It's a brilliant masterpiece and awesome hard 'n' heavy!

From: Gringo Date: January 18, 2002 at 7:58
These guys are awesome. James LaBrie should have stuck with this format instead of the techno Dream Theatre crap.

From: Rickson Date: March 2, 2002 at 11:40
Got this album, sounds like shit through recommendations here! What's wrong with you people?Listen to Excalibur,Chroming Rose,AfterHours,Fifth Angel...That's what i call KICK ASS!

From: Motley Date: May 28, 2002 at 16:45
Any body not liking this album shoudl get their ears tested. Its not DT stuff but ass kicking James with a ass kicking backup. I wish he still did this stuff coz I lost my taste with DT after Images and words. Hate that over-the-hill progressive shit. THIS IS ASS KICKING!!!!!

From: James Date: May 31, 2002 at 3:47
What a wonderful album. This came out in 89 and should have been huge. It fit in great with Bon Jovi, Def Leppard,Skid Row,BadEnglish.....all the great hard rock act's of the 80's and early 90's. This rates as one of the best 'unknown' albums of the decade where rock ruled the radio and video stations.

From: Dryan Date: October 6, 2002 at 15:55
James 'Love Hard Rock' LaBrie,ha,ha,ha...

From: The Fizzy One Date: October 6, 2002 at 16:20
Sounds like something James LaBrie's snobby current bandmates in Dream Theater--a.k.a. Wank Theater--would sneer at. He probably gets no end of shit from them about it and would like to pretend he never did it.

From: Undy500 Date: December 16, 2002 at 9:31
Excellent Melodic rock album!! Vocalist is amazing... The only song I ever liked by dream theatre was 'Pull me under'... This is where James LaBrie belonged!! He sounded sooo much better in Winter Rose than Dream theatre... :-)

From: TIM Date: May 14, 2003 at 5:48
I agree with Gringo and Motley- LaBrie should have stuck with this style. Great music.

From: Decibel Dave Date: May 20, 2003 at 18:33
Pretty good stuff, though 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' is a ripoff of Survivor's 'I Can't Hold Back'.

From: TheRipper Date: August 4, 2003 at 18:58
Way better than anything Dream Theatre ever did, in my opinion of course. Good release. Check it out!

From: jonnny Date: September 25, 2003 at 21:51
AH nothing like Canadian eh!! I see why American bands look to Canada for highly rated musicians such as James Labrie. Outstanding octave range and a natural vocalist. Dream Theatre needs to get back to melodic rock like Winter Rose did with this album.

From: Drakke Date: November 30, 2003 at 1:47
One great cd...The vocals are the best, I've ever heard from james much like the original vocalist domanic of Dream Theatre...You can hear why he was the obvious replacement...The guiterist is great too. I think he blows away john petrucci...I think james and Dream Theater need to back to there roots...

From: Rik Date: March 3, 2004 at 16:19
Love this album. Great vocals ! My time is my favorite song. Was not aware this band became Dream Theater. Man when are they changing back again to Winter Rose. Sooooo much better.

From: craycpanda Date: March 27, 2004 at 15:59
I love this album so much. The style makes me want to cry since I am a big fan of 80's rock. LaBrie does such good work with the vocals and I think he's even better than in Dream Theater. This CD, you MUST have.

From: Geoff Date: August 17, 2004 at 2:20
What a mischievious release! Who'd have picked it? The vocals are amazing and remind me of Sebastian Bach at times, though of course the mighty Labrie has his own identity. For me the album trades gem for filler, but even the fillers are still cool pieces of hard rock without needing to be skipped. 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' is as good as melodic hard rock ever gets, 'One Last Time' is actually one of my favourite songs of all time and 'Saved By Love' is another flawless fave of mine.

From: jessica96fish Date: August 22, 2004 at 17:39
a strong album from start to finnish.like the voice.much better than d/t...GO GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: Marla (MJ) Date: August 26, 2004 at 18:44
GET OUTTA TOWN!!!!!!! A friend just sent me 'Never Let Me Go' and I was floored!!! Had to come check them out.....and OMG...LABRIE??? No way!!! Nuh huh....for real??? Wow...I really want this now!!!

From: Yamato Date: August 28, 2004 at 16:33
where can i get the lyrics, the cd is awesome, but i need the lyrics, my english is not that good to sing the songs, so please!

From: Kip Date: September 3, 2004 at 15:28
Heh. I just downloaded this in a trade and I can't wait to hear it. I never even knew it existed. Very cool. Labrie did a melodic metal album?! Why the hell didn't anyone tell me? lol.

From: StarCity Rocker Date: March 9, 2005 at 9:13
Once again, I find myself chiming in with previous posts. Everyone has summed it up nicely. Dream Theater fans may be puzzled, but 80s metal fans will eat this up. Rough Boys (what a voice!), Never Let Me Go, and Saved By Love (ballad) were my personal favorites. Pretty rare find from what I've heard, so grab it if you run across it. Very recommended.

From: DIKTATER66 Date: February 26, 2006 at 0:49
Pisses me off!!! Saw it 3 times used and never got it!! Have crappy burned copy now and damn does it sound great!!! Who would have thought this was Dream Theatre in the making? Anyway-totally agree with everyone--if you see it -GET IT! Awesome melodic songs and just great vocals! If anyone has a copy --I'll pay! (just like everyone else)lol diktater66@hotmail.com

From: metalguf Date: May 12, 2006 at 11:37
Good melodic hard rock. Many good songs. Nice vocalist. The ballad 'Dianna' is very good. So buy it!!!

From: manicmurderdoll Date: May 14, 2006 at 17:34
I can't stand Dream Theater but for one song and even it's too damn long and artsy to fully entertain me. So if you're thinking this will sound like that, think again. Winter Rose should have enjoyed at the very least modest success, they're better than 800f what was put out there and marketed ad nauseum. James LaBrie was onto something cool here, too bad he went on to DT. For us fans of this genre anyway.check out 'my time'. it's on my daily playlist right now.

From: Erik Date: May 15, 2006 at 9:01
Wanna get addicted to a song/chorus ? Play : My Time. But be warned you wont be able to stop playing it !

Very better than Dream Theater

From: juan carlos Date: July 13, 2008 at 10:02
I already commented a long time ago on this one. Well, I have see any point of comparison with Any Dream Theater stuff. Winter Rose is Melodic HARDROCK and DT is PROG ROCK/METAL... Great album and James LaBrie is an excellent singer. Solid MHR. 8.9/10

From: juan carlos Date: July 13, 2008 at 10:05
well sorry, i meant: I can not see Any point of comparison between WR and Any DT stuff, can you?

From: lalo r.o.c.k. Date: August 16, 2008 at 0:04
Awesome melodic hard rock, only listen I“ll Never fall in love again you will never forget the chorus!,James Labrie sing like never did in Dream Theatre, his voice is for this kind of rock, othe highlights are Diana,One last time,Never Let me go,great riffs and magic melodies and the power ballad Saved By love is the example of what melodic perfection can be,a must have,9/10.

From: sharatan Date: February 15, 2009 at 5:48
it has the national hymn for all the loverboys out there. sleep theater, give me back my labrie i love!

From: 123charpenay Date: December 26, 2009 at 16:33
there is nothing in common between dream theather and winter rose.only the voice of james labrie.i hate dream theather but i love winter rose.i am ok with all people of heavy harmonies, this is a killer cd s.a real dream for melodic hard rock fans.absoluty no fillers only hits.all songs are fantastics.they sounds eighties high class.a jewel a must have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: TYNOBSK Date: September 12, 2017 at 10:27
James LaBrie is good here , awesome with DT or in his solo album. The man is a great singer and no one can deny that , hard rock and progressive Metal ,perfect voice for both bands , period.

From: Joćo13 Date: February 21, 2022 at 22:20
I've always been a fan of LaBrie, even with the barrage of criticism he gets. It's honestly impressive vocal qualities from him so soon! This album is very cohesive and contains many hooks that stick together for a long time. Album highly recommended by lovers of Glam Metal. For those who like something more melodic, you will also like it because there are beautiful ballads here.

From: TattooPaul Date: December 22, 2023 at 13:41
Seriously?! What's with all the hate for Dream Theater? DT doesn't have to suck for this album to be good. Nor, does DT sneer at this album. It's why James got the job singing in DT. Several members of DT have side projects in this vein, because you can like more than one thing. I love Vain & Tryx, but I also Love Megadeth & Dream Theater. You guys (and the rest of the country) need to stop with all the hate of things you don't like or don't understand; that is how a certain evil orange politician got elected and split the nation. Maybe it's time to stop with all the hate!!!

From: Auslander Date: January 4, 2024 at 15:48
Not sure I also equate somebody having a different taste in music with politics. Alas, for some everything has to be political these days. The good news is, you can love or hate Dream Theatre all you like and say as much in an album review and it doesn't make you a Republican or a Democrat!!!
