YESS!! The best band in the 00's from Finland, I've got this cd and their second album: The Monsterican Dream (2002), and should buy their third: The Arockalypse. Every cd Lordi has made is a true 80's metal gem, if you haven't heard them before you should go to their homepage and listen to some songs, this band is the best!!! |

Good Lord, this is some very good 80s-style metal, very much like "Hey Stoopid"-era Alice Cooper, loaded with huge hooks, rousing choruses, & gang backing vox. Unfortunately, what keeps this from scoring a near-perfect rating is the lead vocalist, whose rough, gravelly rasp really isn't suited for such a melodic-oriented (albeit heavy) band. Still, if you can get past the off-putting lead vocals, you'll hear some great hook-laden heavy metal anthems that should get heavy rotation in your stereo. |

This disc is my first sample of Lordi... and I'm wondering what the big deal is. Don't get me wrong, they're fine musicians (and the track "Devil Is A Loser" is hilarious) but I wonder if they'd be getting as much attention if they weren't wearing the GWAR outfits. |
