without a doubt this is one of the best american hard rock bands to emerge the face of the earth!.its a real shame that their short career only lasted three albums because all of them are great examples of superb melodic rock perfectly executed and produced.im not too kin into compilations but this one seems to be very well done so if you are one of the very few who still hasnt heard of winger this is the best way to start.rediscover one of the best written pages in american hard rock!!.

From: freddy de keyze Date: April 19, 2003 at 19:38
Very underrated band ! But a great one, and I hope they return soon ! Songs as 'Rainbow In The Rose' and 'Headed For A Heartbreak' are outstanding ! This was a class band, a real rock band and no girlsband at all !

From: James Date: April 21, 2003 at 20:58
Headed For A Heartbreak---Hated that song. In the long run for first timers this is a good album to get. Winger gets a lot of flack their way but they were a good band. Not something that I would listen to very much though.

From: Paul Ryan Date: May 1, 2003 at 11:51
Always liked Winger but never really bought any of their stuff when they were going. Got this compilation and realised what an excellent band they were. Good solid melodic hard rock songs. Very Leppard influenced. Never understood why they were given so much shit as they are a notch above a lot of the other bands from that time. Reb Beach plays some tasteful guitar and shreds when he needs to. Excellent production. Can't get Enuff is superb. A good introduction if you've never heard them before.

From: cruise Date: September 18, 2003 at 19:51
Laughed at during there time because they said they were not image concious and were really a prog rock band!!!!(uhu!). However, taken for what they really are i think they were an extremely tight hard rock band with some of the best hooks you will hear in the genre. This is an excellent compilation that has all the hits and not an average track in sight. Superb guitar licks and a fabulous production. They don't make them like this any more. Brilliant. 9.5/10

From: Date: October 7, 2003 at 13:47
one of the greatest band during that era...great melodies...solid rock...high performances from some amazing players...good cd to start with if u don't know any of their cds. 9/10

From: koogles Date: October 11, 2003 at 16:19
Brilliant observation: "Good cd to start with if u don't know any of their CDs", (---.pool80181.interbusiness.it). Wow. Who would have thought that a greatest hits CD could be used in such a way? You're a real fucking genius, you know that?

From: robert Date: December 2, 2003 at 20:26
Vaya pedazo d Banda!! muy interesante este recopilatorio. para mi los 2 primeros d estos Genios son 2 Obras Maestras!!

From: Wingnut Date: December 4, 2003 at 3:23
Seems like a decent compilation, but WHERE THE HELL is BATTLE STATIONS from the Bill & Ted Soundtrack? I HATE when bands don't include stuff like that on a GH release!!!

From: TIM (2) Date: May 28, 2004 at 9:19
I loved this band, but agree that "Battle Stations" should've been on here. So should "Without the Night" from the debut, awesome ballad. If they were still making albums today they would probably sound like Warrant do these days, so I'm not too sad they're not together...

From: Artie Date: June 8, 2004 at 23:52
Don't let the Beavis & Butthead crowd tell you what's good and what's not. So what if Kip Winger had a Colgate-smile pretty-boy look... they cranked out some pretty rockin' tunes during their time. I agree that Battle Stations should have been on it. Maybe there were copyright restrictions to it. Who Knows.

From: jack Date: July 27, 2004 at 6:08
Winger will always be one of my favourite hard rock/metal band because of excellent tracks like seventeen, madalaine and rainbow in the rose. They are one heck of a band:talented, original and creative. Such a shame that they are so underrated and underappreciated. This album will always remind me of how great winger is! Ratingerfect

From: squeezer Date: August 10, 2004 at 11:28
fantastic band. i wonder, will they release a live album? it must be very great to have it.

From: nicvanhalen Date: December 2, 2004 at 14:27
great band....awesome cd...but hey what happened with without the night...that song rocks

From: LV KIX Date: February 15, 2005 at 16:25
The Very Best of Winger... Thats a contradiction in terms. There needs to be a good before there can be a best....

From: AOR freaky Date: February 16, 2005 at 12:25
This band released some GREAT stuff, dear LV KIX ! No doubt about that !

From: Geoff Date: February 16, 2005 at 19:06
I have to agree with AOR Freaky here. I love all three Winger releases but I guess the first two are a matter of opinion. You can personally dislike 'Pull' all you want, but if you cannot appreciate the excellence involved on that CD I have to raise questions. A sensational disc, IMO, but regardless of my opinion it is very well written, perfectly played and really quite a gem in melodic hard rock history. Refer to track 2-6 on this. I don't own this compilation; are the unreleased tracks good?

From: TIM (2) Date: February 17, 2005 at 2:59
Hey Geoff, The unreleased tracks are pretty good & very similar to the material from "Pull". Probably not worth paying out for if you have the other albums already though. To repeat myself, the fact that "Without the Night" isn't on here should be a criminal offence. Apparently they're back together and touring, so let's hope an album follows...

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 15, 2005 at 10:35
Let's get this straight here. Pull was winger's heaviest and best effort.if their debut and second album(i feel was pretty weak and too keyboard orientated and too may ballad)was in the same direction as pull,i reckon winger will get more respect from fans-glam fans and metalhead alike.

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 15, 2005 at 10:41
As a hair metal fan myself,i think that the late 80's hair metal band was too poppy and too aor(not a big fan of) orientated, especially the ballad. Blame it on bon jovi and def leppard! As good and talented as winger, they are simply too poppy. Pull was okay but the first two? Poppy hair metal bands-Warrant,bon jovi, slaughter, firehouse, danger danger, def leppard, poison, winger, whitesnake, nelson(ugh!),europe etc.

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 15, 2005 at 10:49
Kick ass heavy hair metal band(mostly early 80'sband)-Twisted sister,RATT,Cinderella, motley crue,GUN'N'ROses,Dokken,W.a.s.p,Skid row,Tesla,Early quiet riot(metal health era),Scorpions etc. Compare winger debut to twisted sister's under the blade, dokken's tooth and nail or scorpions's blackout and you'll the heaviness differnce. Under the blade is one of hard rock/hair metal heaviest album and it can be compared to any heavymetal bands like priest 80's album(except painkiller),dio and queensryche

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: April 17, 2005 at 5:11
Nice comments,GLAM FAN. But it's on your side. Now it's on my side. For me,being poppy and full of keys is another element showing a rock band on their wider range and multi-dimentional talents. And one thing you should know is that Winger never wrote easy, straight and simple song with those keys instrument(except "Miles Away"),they still got rich chords progression. Compare them to those straight rock n roll-based band and most of those glam bands with very predictable chords,Winger rules. They

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: April 17, 2005 at 5:25
And I dont agree if you put Winger on the same par with Poison,Bon Jovi,Warrnt,Tesla or Slaughter. They're musically too straight. You can place Winger in a nice row along with Extreme or Harem Scarem. They sound different IMO. Well, sorry for fans of those bands I mentioned. I also got them in my collection, but for me Winger is a few steps ahead.

From: AOR freaky Date: April 17, 2005 at 5:48
I fully agree with you BWH'Indonesia' !!!!! To Glam Fan, with all respect : Winger was far more talented than all your simple glam bands together. And Pull was good, but IMO the weakest ! Not enough keys, my friend. Just like BWH, I WANT to hear keys ! Winger played adult music, while Warrant, Poison etc. played music for kids, like the punk/alternative/nu-breed acts now !

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 17, 2005 at 6:52
Keyboards are really too cheesy for my taste. I prefer a straight ahead metal or hair-metal album with heavy guitar in it. This is not pop, dance or new wave. If you like keybaords,it's better to listen to those genre. Keyboards is one of the reason that 'spoil' and destroy 80's rock,or more specifically, hard rock and metal. Look at the final countdown, for example. It make an embarassment to 80's hard rock/metal scene. Reason:keyboards. It was more like a dance song. sad!

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 17, 2005 at 7:00
BWH,rock music has got to be more simple. Bands like winger are the reason why guitar rock and virtuoso become extinct. The way i see it,the pop-metal of the late 80's has become musically more chalenge. Every one tried to play their instrument(especailly guitar)at high tempo. It was like, who was faste or flashier etc. It cause a whole backlash in the rock scene. Simple music,my friend is tons better. It resembles rock and roll roots and more impotantly keep the paid tribute to true rock band

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 17, 2005 at 7:04
like led zeppelin, the who or ac/dc. If you got a true appreciation for rock music, then you should learn that keeping rock and roll to its basic is the best, not hybrid-ting it with keyboards or dance beating drum. Disgusting!

From: Date: April 22, 2005 at 4:47
I love those rock gods you mentioned much..but wait a minute..why didnt you mention Deep Purple,Yes or ELP? Because they use keys? And you forgot one thing bro, even Zep,Who or AC/DC couldnt resist using keys in some phases of their career. They all have some "poppy" songs dont they? Please dont blame Winger for the extinction of shredders, because Reb Beach is tough axeman.Blame it on those nu generation crap bands. And you see, many guitar virtuosos used keys and wrote ballads.

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: April 22, 2005 at 5:05
Most of glam bands dont have virtuosity, like punk bands, they just sell pain, anger, sex, rebel youth, midnite life and something like that. They conceal their..sorry.. low skill and talents in the name of simplicity. Now if you can play any musical instrument, try to play, say,Tesla's "Love Song" or Crue's "Without You", you'll figure the chords out in 5 minutes. Then just try to play Winger's "Without The Night",I bet that you won't be able to make it in 1 hour.

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 26, 2005 at 5:29
Sorry,BWH''indonesia" but tesla isn't glam. Winger is more glam than tesla. Winger is tons more image conscious than tesla. Tesla is one of the most pure rock and roll sound in the 80's-no frilled nonsense blues hard rock. How can you put them in the same level as motley crue, man? But i agree with on all the other point.

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: April 30, 2005 at 6:43
If the term "glam" here refers to the outfits or the way they look,I agree, but musically they're far too sophisticated to be considered as glam, especially the 1st and 2nd album.Sorry if I was wrong about Tesla.I can appreciate bands like them,Greatwhite,Crue,Aerosmith,LA Guns,Black Crowes, etc. But I'm much more into bands like Starship,Toto, Chicago,Journey,Foreigner, even early Richard Marx and Michael Bolton. To me,quality means full of keys and complicated chords.

From: GLAM FAN Date: May 5, 2005 at 4:45
I see that you are more into soft rock(chicago),pop rock(starship, toto) and arena melodic rock(journey, foreigner),that's why you like keyboards! I'm never a fan of all of them but i'm a big fan of all those band you said you appreciate except black crowes. The band that comes closest to journey or styx's sounding is night ranger and stryper except a bit more heavier and metallic. I'm a big fan of both band, especially stryper and i like their keyboard soundbecuase they are a christian band

From: GLAM FAN Date: May 5, 2005 at 4:47
which suits them with keyboard. But bands like motley crue(my third favourite) or poison are a more dirty, sleazy bands. That's why keyboard,i think does not suit them. To me,quality is a simple but good guitar sounding, great riffs and solos.

From: BWH"Indonesia" Date: May 8, 2005 at 7:03
Yup.Night Ranger is great, especially with the touch of David Foster's hand.As a teenager in the mid 80's,I loved Stryper. But now I realize that their chords are too simple and easy. The voice is somewhat annoying(except when he's screaming).I think keys doesnt suit them too much.I still love to hear guitar-driven rock n roll song, especially when I get drunk. But AOR,Westcoast music, fusion or even progrock have caught my attention. It's much more challenging to analyze and to play.

From: SCANDI Date: October 12, 2005 at 17:58
It just came out when I discovered MR so it was one of the first CDs I got from this genre. For a long time now it gathered dust and I didn't think high of it anymore 'til I listened to it again. It's actually better than I thought of.. a blizzard of riffs but the keys are missing some time. So a little less riffs, a little more keys and I gave it an 8/10. Example: The last track suits me the most 'cos that's what I think good MR is. Other tracks I like the most include tracks 2,4 & >/=9

From: hair metal again Date: November 7, 2009 at 2:13
fantastic compilation of songs which prove to everyone the quality of hair metal gods WINGER.the unreleased track "on the inside" is pretty good with a strong riff and the outtake"hell to pay" in the same way.the important thing for winger fans in this release is the information given in the booklet ,where there are details for the band since the beginning, very useful for me.surely one of the best bands in hard rock
