Good songs, but not enjoyable because "modern" elements and stupid "modern" riffs destroy the good impression.

From: Federico Date: September 13, 2002 at 6:39
I agree with Shoemaker, the riffs are too much modern and heavy for my taste. I don't like this cd. I love all their albums except this. They always made great classic hard rock works, I can understand if after all those here they try to change a little, but I don't like the way they do it. The 2 power ballads are great.

From: TYTAN3K Date: September 17, 2002 at 2:03
This one grew on me big time. Love the new heavy sound, just wish they had added two more "melodic rock" songs. Unfortunately, I think they may be trying to get away from that more commercial sound. I hope not.

From: M. Allen Date: September 18, 2002 at 16:39
The heaviest, most modern-sounding PRETTY MAIDS release to date and for some, that will be a turn off. Personally, I'm OK with it, especially since the band included two songs that return to their roots ("Natural High" & "One Way to Rock"). That pair of tracks is straight-forward melodic hard rock. The rest of the songs experiment a little bit and the result is a darker, meaner sound. Frankly, I prefer the old PRETTY MAIDS, but even in their evolution they have delivered the goods.

From: Kim Date: September 19, 2002 at 22:18
NOT agreed. Many keeps talking about Metal bands NOT beeing able to `renew` themselves. Well Pretty Maids did `renew` a lot on this release. This is a damn good cd, and I recommend it. Its NOT another Red Hot And Heavy release, but its a damn good Rock Album. Has anyone seen them live ..............?

From: Kim Date: September 19, 2002 at 22:20
...............I hate Virtual Brutality though. Why the fuck do they have the ``Cher`` sounding noices on the vocals.

From: Date: November 13, 2002 at 10:49
I wish I was born in Denmark to see them live.. I'm from Italy and I can't remember some concert of PM here.. great CD anyway although I'd prefer a comeback to the "Jump the gun" era... where are the keyboards here??

From: Scandinavia Date: December 30, 2002 at 11:13
I come from their hometown and have by now seen them about 15 times..they kick ass everytime! My fave band. Even got their logo tattooed on my shoulder. Die-hard! This album really disappointed me...they have often changed their sound but this time they went in a commercial direction...Good songs though but where's the soul in it? sales really dived with this release and it's obvious. Spooked really set a new maids standard but they lost it again somewhere along the way. What a shame...

GRAN DECEPCION 4,5/10

From: ROBERT Date: January 23, 2003 at 15:04

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: January 24, 2003 at 14:13
La verdad lo tendré encuenta ya puesto que había oido hablar muy bien de ellos .Pero ya te digo la decepción en este caso ha sido grande. Espero que estos deos me gusten más. Un saludo

Man ONLY ONE WAY TO ROCK is awesome...

From: Great Dane Date: April 24, 2003 at 5:12
They have just released a new Live Album. Its out in two versions. The best is a two cd set, The second cd is a cd called 'First Cuts And Then Some' Which is 15 tracks from their early days + Bonus tracks. All in all 15 tracks + 2 live video tracks. Highly recomendable.

From: Scandinavia Date: June 1, 2003 at 13:44
Just saw Maids perform yesterday at an open air festival...Amazing! Slade played before Maids but they were the main attraction! People went crazy! What a show! 10.000 people singing along...2 girls next to me in the front row took off their shirts so the band had something nice to look at...They starting laughing so much they almost had to stop playing in the middle of "Virtual Brutality" It was really a blast! My all-time fave band!

From: Logan Date: June 12, 2003 at 16:44
I bought Alive At Least 2 months ago and I think it is one of my favorite live albums. I heard 5 tracks from MelodicRock.com and I was sold. I noticed that they have another import that has a hard box cover in red without the original logo and artwork with a bonus song called "Rodeo". Did anyone hear that song? Is it any good? When I saw that at Vintage Vindyl in NJ I was so pissed off. I like every song off that cd. Can anyone recommend other albums that are awesome? I have a couple in mind but

From: Logan Date: June 12, 2003 at 16:57
Oh I just noticed that "Rodeo" is on one of their earlier albums, "Future World". I read just one review and it got a good rating. I do have "Red, Hot & Heavy already which is great. I do like more of their polished songs which came later on which is on the Alive At Least cd.

From: Great Dane Date: June 12, 2003 at 20:46
Logan I think the Alive At Last is out in several different editions. I saw the one you mention, today in my favorite cd store. My release is a two cd set, which has the live cd + a bonus cd 'First Cuts And Then Some, and on it is included some videos. I recommend this one. Its also available as a normal cd, with no bonus, vidoe or extra disc.

From: Logan Date: June 13, 2003 at 13:34
Great Dane! Thanx for responding to my message. I noticed at least 4 editions. You certainly got the better package. If I can't get it in at this store near my job which is HMV, I will purchase it for sure. I may buy another cd from them to avoid the shipping charges. I am so addicted to the live cd. I need more.

From: Motley Date: July 18, 2003 at 16:58
Some sad rumours:Maids is taking a year off as far as Ive heard and if the next album doesnt make it big they are thinking of calling it a day due to bad treatment and support from their record company. HELL I can understand that. They are a danish metal band and Denmark are not famous for that kind of style anymore. Im keeping my fingers crossed that they will come back with a killer album in the vein of Stripped meets Jump the gun with the keyboards from Future World.

From: Motley Date: July 18, 2003 at 16:59
Again only rumors and I hope I havent ruined any normal life now... I styrer sku gutter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: Hrudet Date: July 20, 2003 at 21:05
Pretty Maids are like a European Dokken. And that's Dokken in the old sense of the world, and heavier again. Planet Panic is an all new album that sees the guys experiment on a couple of tracks, with drum loops and modern production effects, but generally it's just what you would expect and hope for - lots of double kick drums, furious guitar riffs and some of the stronger lead vocals to come out of the European scene.

From: TYTAN3K Date: July 21, 2003 at 14:56
Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really hope those are just rumors!!! I always thought the Maids kept doing it for the love of the music...not for fame. I can understand them being frustrated though. They've been around 20 years and have never gotten their due. They should be as big as Maiden or Priest is today. Don't give in, Maids!!!!!

From: Scandinavia Date: July 21, 2003 at 15:47
Cool you think so. I agree. I don't think they realize how big they are. Spoke to Ronnie Atkins 'bout a month ago & he told me neither him nor Ken Hammer felt like doing it anymore...The shit with their old label & the fact that they lost about 50.000 dollars each on that account has disillusioned them. Unfortunately! He told me he'd rather do something completely else. He's found a job in maisonry. Michael fast has also become too involved with his other band, Dudes in Limos, to concentrate

From: Scandinavia Date: July 21, 2003 at 15:49
...enough on PM. What a shame!

From: TYTAN3K Date: July 21, 2003 at 21:59
If this really is true...I think they should go out in style. Let's get one more farewell studio album at least!!!! After that, a DVD with all their videos, interviews, backstage stuff for the hardcore fans. Damn. This news really bums me out.

From: Scandinavia Date: July 22, 2003 at 7:48
Actually they do have some left-over DVD material from their previous tour which should have been released together with ALIVE AT LEAST but if I know them well It'd unfortunately just be some 2nd rate stuff they release...Yes, they should have stopped back then before things went wrong. In my opinion that should have been before they released STRIPPED but on the other hand I wouldn't have missed SPOOKED. Planet Panic is in my opinion their worst album ever & I've lost a great deal of respect due

From: Scandinavia Date: July 22, 2003 at 7:51
to this half-hearted release. As Ronnie Atkins also put it: The album was done with haste because of too much pressure from their label. They simply weren't given enough time to create something classic & timeless like say SPOOKED...Their album sales really dived too following the release of PLANET PISS...Sorry, I'm normally a very devoted fan but this really disappointed me.

From: Date: July 23, 2003 at 8:32
I could see why the BIG fans who've been into them for so long wouldn't like Planet Panic. When I heard Live At Least I was so sold on Anything Worth... and Planet Panic. I personally don't think it is a bad album. The songs they picked for Live At least I think are really good especially "Playing with God". I am a major sucker for that ballad of theirs... "Natural High". I also thought they did a great version of Sammy Hagar's "One Way To Rock". I bought Red, Hot and Heavy before Live At Least

From: TYTAN3K Date: July 31, 2003 at 19:42
The rumor about the Maids calling it quits is just that. A rumor. Ronnie Atkins spoke out and said that despite recent troubles with their management/website...the band won't give up! Expect a new album late Autumn Early Winter 2004!! Great news!!!! Their Official Homepage is now the Danish Dynamite site: http://www.pretty-maids.de/indexx-en.htm

From: Motley Date: August 5, 2003 at 14:31
Thats right. Thanx alot TYTAN!!!!! New official hp is www.pretty-maids.de SÅDAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: T-Bone Date: February 9, 2004 at 10:25
Good songs here, but ditch the vocal effects. It pretty much ruins the first couple songs. All in all a good disk. A little modern sounding in some places, but not too far that you wouldn't recognize the band. Natural High is my favorite on the CD.

From: Scott Date: March 11, 2004 at 12:31
Have read a ton of negative fan reviews on this CD. Most claim that this disc is to modern. Not sure what their idea of "modern" is because this isn't some modern rock album. It is perhaps the band's heaviest album in a long time and may even have a more modern production, but overall this is just what I would expect from Pretty Maids. Natural High, One Way to Rock & Playing God are nothing short of a melodic metal rockers. I won't say that this is the bands finest hour, but it it still rocks.

From: mutley Date: March 17, 2004 at 1:50
Wow ! There's alot of ballad friendly people here ! If you want quality ballads try "All I care for" on swiss group Gotthard's 1st album (the 1st album is an absolute classic) or a track, that I think from memory is called, "Blood & Sweat" from late 80's group Gypsy Rose (produced by Gene Simmons). As for PM, Panic is my first experience of them and I quite liked it although the chorus on Virtual Brutality was a bit gay - quality riff though !

From: Great Dane Date: April 30, 2004 at 16:47
This is one of the best bands around..... They stick to what they believe in and are one of the best metal bands ever. I rate them as high as bands like, Motley Crue, Sinner, Motorhead, Cinderella, Europe and Thin Lizzy. Check how many quality releases they have made. What has stopped Pretty Maids from becomming as big as the mentioned bands and bands like Bon Jovi are the fact that theyre from a small country like Denmark. BUT theyre a top class metal act. Burb.

From: R.S. - Rocks Date: May 3, 2004 at 19:07
Ok, I see that most of you didn´t like this album. But I like it very much. Most of their albums are great. "Scream" is the worst of them all. And "Stripped" is just boring. But the rest rocks. So sad that the german label "Massacre Records" ruined the bands career here in Germany (Stupid people!!!)- Up the maids!

From: BETO Date: August 13, 2004 at 0:11
RECIEN ME LO COMPRE Y NO ME PARECE MALO CLARO NO ES COMO SPOOKED O SCREEM, PERO TIENE DOS BUENOS MEDIOS TIEMPOS TIPICOS Y CREO QUE A PARTIR DE LA 6 ES MAS TIPICO DEL SONIDO ANTERIOR.EL TRABAJO DE TECLADO COMO SIEMPRE ES UNICO Y LAS GUITARRAS NO ME PARECEN TAN FUERTES COMO EN EL ANITHIG.... DE 1999.INCLUSIVE EL SONIDO DE GUITARRAS ES EL MEJOR QUE ESCUCHADO OJO NO ME REFIERO AL ESTILO.ESPERO QUE PARA EL PROXIMO VUELVAN MAS MELODICOS, RECONOZCO QUE LO ME GUSTA DEL GRUPO SON LAS MAS HARD ROCK Y LOS

From: Geoff Date: November 23, 2004 at 5:14
As a fan of Pretty Maids as big as it gets, I must admit this is on CD I still haven't been convinced by. I haven't listened to it that much, which is odd as I always listen to their albums time and time again. It doesn't have the melodic moments of past, and closest we get of a glimpse is the pretty cool 'Natural high'. The last track is cool too and the metal tracks here really are very good, making it another very solid CD. Just would have liked a few more melodic rockers... Still, great CD.

From: Scandinavia Date: December 14, 2004 at 5:21
I think the good thing about this album is that they try out new approaches to their worn-out formula. Unfortunately they were under a lot of pressure from their label and that affects the music. Too many fillers I guess plus the production job is too unvaried from song to song...It's like one big blur of soundbits. Not that it's that bad but it could've been MUCH better.

From: rbrigade Date: August 30, 2008 at 12:34
This is way to modern, some riffs remind me off nu-metal monkeys...The only songs I really like is Who's gonna change the world (great riffing) and Worhtless (ok, Worthless may be the most modern sounding song here, but I actually like it for another reason...it's dark, melancholic and really powerful). Such a shame they headed towards that direction...Their worst album ever!

From: hair metal again Date: October 17, 2010 at 3:27
for me this is another great one!maybe heavier but the basic elements are here again.fav songs the melodic anthem "natural high", the cover "one way to rock" and "he who never lived".there is no bad release from these guys and i think you must own every single release
