A great EP. this one and the first material Kim released as a solo artist after he left Max Webster. All 5 tracks are nice and are typical signature Kim Mitchell, Big melodies, Robert Sinclair-Wilson's driving basslines, Mr. Mitchells rather excellent guitar chops and of course Pye Dubois off the wall lyrics, all moulded together to produce a quite frankly lovely noise. This was on top of my CD wantlist for a long long time and thankfully Wounded Bird finally released this on CD for the first time back in 2004.

Hoping for a shot at solo-stardom after a brilliant career with the band Max Webster, Kim Mitchell released this pivotal five song EP in 1982 that is still considered by many hard rock enthusiasts as one of the greatest EPs ever recorded. Each song on the album is detailed and surprising. Guitar licks ricochet like pinballs, harmony vocals swell and soar, and the drums and cymbals, especially on the song "Chain of Events" pound the listener into purple-swelled and jazz-inflected submission. Lyrics by Pye Dubois are typically nonsensical when read on paper but clever and alliterative when sung. Eschewing the bloat and filler of lesser albums, Mitchell created this tight, expressive and ultimately uplifting CD that still stands head and shoulders above most of the output of the early 80s. It is a must have for any fan of the hardest edges of AOR and radio friendly rock.
