Giant was a good hard rock band and the Huff brothers (Dan and David) are terrific musicians. Great and wild guitar solo in Time To Burn track and very good songs like 'I'll Be There (When It's Over)', 'Save Me Tonight' and 'Without You'. 'Stay' shakin' up rock radios all the world!!!!!!!

Giant were among the spate of great late 80's/ early 90's AOR bands signed to Epic records (along with Tall Stories, Diving For Pearls, Danger Danger). This sort of stuff was, sadly, eclipsed by grunge. Time to re-evaluate it I think!! Giant have a new album out this month III. I've heard clips of it and against all odds it's an absolute triumph. Meantime...buy this!!!

This cd goes in the same catagory as Hardline and Steelhouse Lane. Very catchy melodies and awesome guitar hooks. Massive wall of sound production. Exactly like all Hard Rock should sound like. Big Big Big!!!

Reno and Paolo I like Giant as well. This is my favorite. I bought this cd in 1994. I remember a friend of mine had a cover band, they played Stay. This song remind me a German girl I get that summer. I reccomend you to check out 'Thrills and Silent Witness' both from Silent Witness. I really love this two cds, you won't be dissapiointed.

Why didn't 'Stay' get the Grammy for song of the year in 1992? Because the Grammy voters wouldn't know a good song if it came up and kicked them in the nutsack. This album oozes class from start to finish.

'Last Of The Runaways' was a great debut album. How could Giant possibly improve on it? Well, by turning up the guitars a little more and keeping the same great songwriting ability, Giant did indeed improve. AOR can't get much better than this album. 10/10

'Get Used to It' sounds horribly like a filler to me, which is why it was the B-Side to 'Stay', but no complaints on any of the rest of the material. 'I'll be there (When it's Over)' is probably my favourite, but this is just a continuation of everything that made the first album great. It was sounding like a slightly heavier effort than the debut, until tracks 9, 10 & 11 came along to lighten things up. Great stuff. 9.5/10.
|
From: Rycheage |
Date: July 20, 2004 at 21:50 |
This release featured less keys and turned the guitars up. 'Stay' and 'I'll Be There (When Its Over)' are pure class. The first 3 tracks are quality stuff as well. 'Thunder & Lightning', 'Chained', and 'Lay It On The Line' get the album off to a rousing start. The only complaint I have (agreeing with Tim (2)), is the inclusion of 'Get Used To It'.

When I first heard it I was pretty unimpressed... that is until 'Stay' came on at track four. I was stunned then, and still list it as one of the best songs I've ever heard today. Melodic rock perfection. 'Lost in Paradise' and 'Now until forever' are perfect ballads, and 'I'll be There (When It's Over)', 'Without you' and 'Save Me Tonight' are truly all melodic rock perfection. These 6 are so stunningly perfect and make the album brilliant... but there are fillers unfortunately.

From: Desslar |

This is a little overproduced and a little short on charisma so it can't match the great debut album, but it's still pretty good AOR.

Well if ever a band deserved that infamous title of " they should have been huge" its Giant. The talent is pooring out of every song. Holy smokes can Dan play his guitar or what and what a great voice. Kinda blasfemous to say there r fillers on this gem. Melodic rock perfection. From one song 2 the other. Great band with just top notch releases. And yes Stay is one of the all time greatest melodic rock song you will come across. Heaven. 91/100

Just don't get this, I'm clearly missing something. Yes, 'Chained' and 'Lost in Paradise' are great songs, really great songs and the first track is quite nice, but the rest of it I can take or leave. Some of the tracks on here I find really weak. Apart from the two standout tracks, it just doesn't come close to Hardline's Double Eclipse or House of Lords' debut, to name just two.

They lost something from the first one that's for sure. The songs are well written but are missing hooks and good lyrics. Stay and I'll Be There When It's Over are my favourites. The best way to describe Time To Burn is by saying that the best songs from this are comparable to the worst ones on Last Of The Runaways.

Wowaweewoo. What an album! I have a hard time listening to it all the way through, because I always get hung up on "Chained." Over seven minutes of melodic bliss. I swear you'll experience more orgasms in one listen of the 7:19 track than you ever will with the old lady you're shacked up with.

Time to expand... Giant definitely lost something from their debut. The original offered something different and was, dare I say it, slightly progressive with their songs especially in the likes of Innocent Days and It Takes Two. In this album we get a mostly standard hard rock affair. Thunder and Lightning is a hookless wonder that drags on, ditto for Chained but it's slightly better; Lay It On The Line defines average for me and has no hooks whatsoever. The album kicks off with the melodic Stay, which while being very decent still lacks the je ne sais quoi from the first album. Lost in Paradise: what a boring, dull ballad; compare it to the two brilliant ballads from the first album and you'll understand why. I hoped Smoulder would be a Huff shred-fest but is a dull little acoustic instrumental. Time To Burn is a decent rocker like Stay and then we have my favourite which is I'll Be There When It's Over; this track sounds the most like the first album I think. The rest of them are...
|
From: edwithmj |
Date: February 21, 2015 at 13:00 |
...average rockers with Without You being OK and Save Me TOnight being horribly average. It's as though Giant got complacent and cocky after their first album and just thought they could repeat the magic of the first album weasily but they seemed to fail horribly. Average, medicocre and standard hard rock.

sorry i m agree with you this album have a little "je sais quoi de moins que leur premier fantastique effort".nevertheless i m fan of this band and this second realise.even it s impossible to have the same level than their first extraordinary record."stay" is the perfect example a super song a hit but there is a little"je ne sais quoi" to prevent that this super song was an international hit.this rule is the same for all this excellent (but not at the same level than the debut)record.no bonus track on the japan import.nevertheless this record is essential in all serious a o r collection.the great and the logic follow up to their exceptionnal and extraordinary first record..

No I don't speak French, that's just a phrase that's filtered into English and it has its uses. I agree Stay is a great song but it's not on the same level as the stuff from their first disc. The better Giant follow up was Giant III for me.

hard rock perfection by GIANT with Time To Burn and of course much better than their debut!GIANT as every band back in the day tried t transform its sound to the hair metal thing that ruled the charts at the time and the result is impressive cause they also managed to keep their strong identity and added more feelgood elements in their music!I bought that great release just when it was released ,spinned it hundreds, i still know every word of the lyrics and revisiting it brings back great memos!100%
